Euro-Mediterranean Business Association Basic Objectives (I) To create a powerful thinking and action network among entities, organisms, institutions, enterprises and individuals that aim to develop anyone of the following targets: To promote all kind of events, activities and businesses in the area covered by whole countries that constitute the Union for the Mediterranean To promote the peace, the dialogue and the economic and social progress in the whole area covered by the Union for the Mediterranean To encourage research, innovation and euromediterranean studies, linking universities as well as business schools To consolidate a powerful logistic network all over the Union for the Mediterranean, developing the corresponding aerial, rail, road and sea transportation systems, particularly the transmediterranean ones

Euro-Mediterranean Business Association Basic Objectives(II) To promote the interrelation of all kind of enterprises, organisms and institutions from the countries that make up the Union for the Mediterranean (Companies, Employer and Professional Associatons, Chambers of Commerce, Universities, Business Schools, Trade Unions, etc.) To drive the consolidation of a powerful economic area around the Mediterranean, sustained by a new business culture To impel the artistic, cultural and scientific creation all over the Union for the Mediterranean To favour the creation of educational, communication and TIC development bodies covering the whole Union for the Mediterranean To promote the euromediterranean gastronomy, turism and sport Business EUMED to act as a “facilitator body” concerning the projects and activities developed by its members as well as an “opportunities seeker” in Strategic areas all over the Union for the Mediterranean 3

Euro-Mediterranean Business Association Working methodology To make up a powerful “Think Tank”, through the Association members, in order to prepare action proposals To create specialized action networks in the different operational considered fields: Homogeneus action networks (same activity sector) Heterogeneus action networks (several activity sectors jointly) Achieve specific activities through the constituted action networks network developed activities set of parallel individual developed activities To respect the subsidiarity principle with regard to the actions developed by the members 4

Euro-Mediterranean Business Association Membership BUSINESS EUMED shall consist of all kind of institutions, entities organisms and companies from all over the Union for the Mediterranean geographical area. Preferably: Trade/Employer/Business Associations/Chambers of Commerce Academic, scientific, and cultural world (such as Universities, Business Schools, Research Centers, Humanistic associations or foundations, etc.) All kind of companies and institutions particulary the ones linked to new technologies and logistic and transport activities (research centers, ports, airports , multimodal terminals and aerial, rail, sea and route transport companies, etc.) Professional Associations/Trade Unions 5

Scope of the Study (proposal) The study will consider how to optimize the competitiveness of the Euro-Mediterranean Great Geographical Area through the implementation of the rail freight network that links all main Mediterranean Ports among them and among their respective hinterlands in the European Union and neighbouring Countries in Europe, Near Eastern Asia and North of Africa. The Study will also take into account, the progressive implementation of FERRMED standards and the intercontinental and short sea traffics in the area, jointly with the best combination with rail transportation. The Study to be developed by an International Consortium selected for both FERRMED and Business EUMED (Euro-Mediterranean Business Association) 13

The issues will be suggested by the association itself or by the initiatives or projects from our members.
