Network license system requirements

To use Enterprise Studio with a network license, the CodeMeter License Server of Wibu Systems is used. The requirements for the use of this network license are the following:

4

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

l

There must be a port accessible to all users of Enterprise Studio (default port is 22350).

l

On the license server Codemeter Runtime must be installed.

2.3

Compatibility

Enterprise Studio is not backward compatible. Once you have opened and saved a model in a newer version of the tool, the model should not be opened in an older version of the tool.

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

3 Enterprise Studio installation 3.1

Installing Enterprise Studio

Install Enterprise Studio on the computers on which the application should run. To install Enterprise Studio, you must have administrator rights on that computer.

Note: together with Enterprise Studio, CodeMeter Runtime is automatically installed, which will function as a service on that computer.

Perform the following steps: 1. Download the latest release of Enterprise Studio and save the downloaded zip file somewhere local to a temporary location. 2. Extract the saved zip file and double-click the setup.exe file to start the installation. 3. The installation wizard starts. Follow the steps of the wizard and follow the instructions on the screen. Leave the preset locations and options as they are in the different steps. Change them only if you want to install Enterprise Studio at a different location and/or if you want to perform a custom installation. 4. During the installation, a message similar to the one below will appear on the screen.

6

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

You can open a file from Enterprise Studio by opening it in the application itself, but you can also open the file by double-clicking it. If the version of the tool you are installing at the moment should automatically be opened when double-clicking a file, then click Yes. If you do not want to link your files to a specific tool version, click No. In that case the tool will not be opened when double-clicking the file. In case you have previously installed an older version of the tool, and then answered the question with Yes, the file will be opened in this older version of the tool (if still present).

Note: If you choose No now, the same question will be asked once again when you start Enterprise Studio after installation. So you can then still make a choice.

5. Click Finish when the installation is completed. Basically, you can now start the tool and apply for a license. However, if you are going to use Enterprise Studio tool with the Team Platform functionality, you may need to install the Team Server and then perform an additional installation for using a network license. To do this, follow the instructions in the next two sections.

3.2

Installation of the Team Server

Note: Installation of the Team Server is only required if you use Enterprise Studio with the Team Platform functionality "Team collaboration" or "Enterprise collaboration".

In the Team Server, the model packages are stored and the administration of the users working together on the model packages is maintained. Installation of the Team Server is not part of the Enterprise Studio installation and therefore needs be performed separately. Detailed information about installing the Team Server can be found online in the

7

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

BiZZdesign community. A link to download the Team Server installation bundle is included in the welcome mail you have received from BiZZdesign. After you have installed the Team Server, you need to perform an additional installation for using a network license.

3.3

Additional installation for using a network license

Note: Installation of CodeMeter Runtime is only required if you use Enterprise Studio with a network license.

3.3.1

Installing CodeMeter Runtime

CodeMeter Runtime is a licensing mechanism of Wibu-Systems. CodeMeter Runtime must be installed on one or more computers that will work as a license network server in a network configuration. The application will there run as a server. Enterprise Studio should not be installed on these computers. The CodeMeter Runtime Server stores your licenses in computer-bound license files. CodeMeter Runtime should also be installed on the computers on which Enterprise Studio has been installed, functioning there as a service. This is already done automatically during the installation of Enterprise Studio. This installation requires no additional configuration, the license network server will be found automatically. Download the CodeMeter Runtime application here. Install the application and follow the instructions during installation.

The Software activation and Generate reference button can be used to update your license.

6.2

Updating the software license

In some situations it may be necessary to reactivate the software, for example when the license must be updated due to the purchase of a functional extension, if the period of use has expired and must be renewed, or when Enterprise Studio stops working. In all cases, you will receive an activation code that you must enter to reactivate the software. In some cases it may be necessary to first generate a reference and send it to the BiZZdesign service desk. Generating a reference and activating the software can also be done on the General tab of the license management in Enterprise Studio.

6.2.1

Generating a reference

In order to generate a reference, click the Generate reference button. Next, a license request file (*.WibuCmRac) is generated, which you save and then send by e-mail to [email protected]. In response to your license application you will receive an activation code by e-mail which you need to activate the software.

6.2.2

Activating the software

To activate the software with the provided activation code, click the Software activation button. Then the license activation wizard starts, which you go through. Keep your activation code at hand. When the wizard is completed, Enterprise Studio is ready for use again.

6.3

Setting user license rights

As an application manager you can use the administrative options to control which functions in Enterprise Studio users can and cannot use. The license rights can be defined in two ways: via Enterprise Studio or via the CodeMeter Webadmin. If you want to define the license rights for a single user, or want to allow the user to do this himself, use Enterprise

18

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

Studio. If you work with a more complex environment with many users, then control the license rights centrally using the CodeMeter WebAdmin.

6.3.1

Defining license rights in Enterprise Studio

The software configuration for a user can be adjusted in the license management section of Enterprise Studio. In principle, the user can adjust his own configuration, the tab page is visible to every user by default. However, if you prefer to determine the software configuration for the user yourself and do not want to allow the user to do it, then first disable access to the tab. Change the software configuration after that.

Disabling access to the license management tab With a register setting you can make the Advanced tab invisible to the user. Do as follows: 1. Open the registry on the computer for which you want to set the rights. 2. Go to the location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BiZZdesign\\ Licenses\WibuLicense and add the LicenseManagementOff key. The key must be of type DWORD. 3. Set the key value to 1 to make the Advanced tab invisible to the user. If you want to make the tab visible again at some point, set the value to 0 (zero), or remove the registry setting. 4. Close the registry.

Note: A side effect of this registry setting is that, in case of a trial license, users without the Advanced tab will not be notified that the license will expire in less than thirty days.

Changing the software configuration Which changes you can make in the software configuration depends on your license configuration. If you have a package license, you can only switch between different packages, provided that you have more than one package available in your license. If you have a non-package license, you can switch between the other configuration options: To change the software configuration of a user, follow these steps:

19

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

1. On the Help tab, in the About group, click About. 2. Click License Management. 3. Click the Advanced tab.

4. Specify the desired software configuration and click OK. Detailed information about the configuration possibilities can be found in the tool manual. 5. Close Enterprise Studio. The next time the user starts the tool, the specified software configuration will be loaded.

6.3.2

Defining license rights in the CodeMeter WebAdmin

Note: The instructions below refer to the latest CodeMeter Runtime version. If you work with an older version of CodeMeter Runtime, the locations and screenshots may slightly differ.

In the CodeMeter WebAdmin you can manage the users' license rights in the section access control. You can do this in two modes: a basic configuration (Basic) or an advanced configuration (Advanced). l

Basic: Determines the basic rights configuration based on computer names. The computer names that are added will have access to the license, the rest will be ignored.

l

Advanced: Allows the controlling of license access using access rules. License access can be organized for single users or user groups.

In this manual, the advanced configuration is addressed. For additional information about the basic configuration, please refer to the CodeMeter Administrator manual that is available on the Wibu-Systems website (www.wibu.com), or click on Help in the CodeMeter WebAdmin window.

21

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

Adding firm code 1. On the server, open the CodeMeter Control Center and click on WebAdmin to open the CodeMeter WebAdmin. 2. Click Configuration > Server > Server Access. 3. On the License Access Permissions tab, click the Advanced option button. 4. In Advanced Mode Configuration, click Add new Firm code and select the firm code. If you do not have any other Wibu licenses, there is only one code to choose. Example:

22

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

The default action is set to Allow. Do not change it. It means that everyone will get everything.

Adding access rules Next, determine for which license components you want to define exceptions. You need to add access rules for these components. First, determine the basic principle for the component: l

Each user must have all rights. The exceptions (limitations), are specified in the access rules that you add.

l

No one should have rights. The exceptions (granting), are specified in the access rules that you add.

Think about it carefully, because the configuration can get complex very quickly.

23

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

1. Click on Add new Product Code and select a component from the license.

2. Set the desired basic principle for the rights for the selected component: l

Everyone must have rights for this component, except for one or more persons: set the Default action to Allow.

l

No one should have rights for this component, except for one or more persons: set the Default action to Deny.

In the example below two licenses are available for the "Designer" component, and by default each user has rights for this component (Default action=Allow).

3. Define the exception to the basic principle with an access rule. Click Add new access rule and define the desired access for a user or user group. In the example below access to the component is denied (Action=Deny) for a single user (User=john.doe).

24

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

4. Click Add to add the exception. The result will be as follows:

Each user now has access to the "Designer" component by default, except for the user "john.doe", who does not have access. Repeat steps 3 and 4 if you want to define exceptions for multiple users or groups.

25

Enterprise Studio Installation Guide

5. Optional: Repeat steps 1 to 4 for each component of the software license for which you want to define exceptions. Components for which you do not define exceptions, are simply accessible to any user. 6. After you have finished the configuration, click Apply at the bottom of the window to save the changes. 7. Close the CodeMeter WebAdmin.

Note: If you have centrally regulated the license rights, it remains possible for the users to adjust their own configuration in the License management of Enterprise Studio (provided that access to the Advanced tab is not disabled). The components that are ultimately available to the user, are determined by the rights you have set centrally.

6.4
