OVERVIEW This endoscopic sinus surgery course will focus on sinonasal, orbital, and skull base anatomy. While common clinical applications will be discussed for all techniques and approaches reviewed, this course is specifically designed for practicing general otolaryngologists, otolaryngology residents, and rhinology fellows who wish to improve their endoscopic surgical skills and gain a better understanding of the complex three dimensional anatomy of the sinonasal and skull base area. The faculty is comprised of experienced Rhinologists and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgeons from across the country. They will share simple to use and reliable endoscopic anatomical landmarks for even the most complex cases. This weekend course is unique as it provides significant lab time at a reasonable cost: over eight hours of hands-on lab time assures ample opportunity for the participant to practice all surgical techniques covered and to interact directly with the faculty. There will be a maximum of two participants per fresh cadaver, live dissections as well as scopes, instrumentation, microdebriders, drills, balloons, video and image guidance. This is a great “refresher” course for the general otolaryngologist who currently performs endoscopic sinonasal surgery from the most basic to the most advanced. TARGET AUDIENCE This program is designed to meet the educational needs of practicing otolaryngologists, residents and fellows, as well as other health care providers interested in a comprehensive update on advances in medical and surgical care in Rhinology. OBJECTIVES At the completion of this course, participants will be able to: • •

• •

Endoscopic Sinonasal & Skull Base

Use well established, easy to use, endoscopic sinonasal landmarks to facilitate the performance of common endoscopic surgical procedures. Determine the indications for common endoscopic surgical procedures in the nose, paranasal sinuses, and adjacent skull base and orbit. Utilize endoscopic sinonasal landmarks to navigate throughout the sinonasal tract safely, thereby reducing the risk for serious orbital or skull base complications. Determine what treatment options are available for common sinonasal inflammatory diseases and neoplasms. Predict the appropriate trajectory through the sinonasal anatomy while performing endoscopic sinus surgery to minimize surgical complications. Select appropriate surgical coding after endoscopic sinus surgery.
