Entrepreneurship and Innovation Expand, refine and better connect the pool of capital for entrepreneurship JAXUSA sponsored the Florida Venture Capital Forum for the first time in six years. The Council for Economic Collaboration was formed to cultivate the entrepreneurial environment by strengthening the system, enhancing accessibility to mentors and knowledge center, and connecting like-minded partners, capital and talent.

Consider the availability of state-level resources JAX Chamber achieved Level 1 Economic Gardening Certification through the Edward Lowe Foundation. Increase availability of highly technical assistance Launched Startup Quest, a simulation that provides technical assistance relative to commercialization and technology transfer. Grow FL strategic research being incorporated into the Chamber’s entrepreneurial education offerings, which increase the availability of highly technical assistance to entrepreneurs.

The Small Business Development Center opened full-service centers in Putnam and Nassau counties to assist entrepreneurs, joining existing operations in St. Johns, Flagler and Duval County. Increase opportunities for entrepreneurs to connect and learn from one another The Florida Virtual Entrepreneur Center provides a portal, offering access to entrepreneurial service providers by county. Increase availability of affordable, sophisticated spaces for entrepreneurial ventures One Spark launched the world’s largest crowdfunding festival with more than 130,000 attendees and 500 creators. Focus on marketing missions by JAXUSA leadership Hosted successful site consultant event in Atlanta in May 2013. Partnered with Enterprise Florida and Flagler County to host the Expansion Management Roundtable in the South event in Palm Coast for a second year. Sixteen national site consultants participated over the last two years.

Physical Infrastructure Complete the study that is currently underway by TPO and Logistics Advisory Group North Florida TPO, FDOT and JAXUSA sponsored the North Florida Freight, Logistics and Intermodal Framework Plan, which was completed and is being presented to stakeholders.

Study alternative options for continued port growth in case funding to reach 47 feet is not achieved US. Army Corps of Engineers recommended a 45 foot depth and Jaxport requested approval for 47 feet. Need to identify state and local funding sources to reach full potential.

Industry Updates Health and Life Sciences Increase programming in biomedical industry UNF Division of Continuing Education now offering a Certification in Healthcare Information Technology.

Evaluate the possibility of attending industry events Sponsored and participated in the Life Sciences CEO Forum with eight one-on-one meetings with company CEOs.
