About University College Lillebaelt • University College Lillebaelt (UCL) is one of seven university colleges in Denmark established January 2008.

• UCL covers part of the Southern Region of Denmark • UCL in numbers: ♦ 9 professional bachelor programmes with 7,000 students ♦ Continuing professional development programmes with 7,000 students ♦ Course activities: 8,000 course enrolments annually ♦ UCL runs five interdisciplinary Centres of Excellence ♦ Semesters and Courses taught in English: 150 students a year ♦ Employees: 722 ♦ Turnover: DKK 570 million annually

Strategic Objectives University College Lillebaelt seeks to educate and train the most coveted professional bachelors for the labour market in Denmark and abroad, especially for the public and non-profit sectors. Six strategic objectives have been drawn up for the realization of these and in addition to providing the graduates with strong skills for the specific professions; we make sure that our candidates are:

• Interdisciplinary and user-oriented • Skilled in citizen involvement and policy understanding • Entrepreneurs and innovators • Familiar with the use of the latest technology • Trained to develop new knowledge and new methods • Trained to continuously develop their professions and their work places

Educational Programmes at University College Lillebælt • University College Lillebaelt offers nine professional bachelor degree programmes: ♦ Social Education ♦ Teacher Education ♦ Social Work ♦ Public Administration ♦ Biomedical Laboratory Science ♦ Nursing ♦ Occupational Therapy ♦ Physiotherapy ♦ Radiography

• UCL’s main language of instruction is Danish and the full degree bachelor programmes are

taught in Danish. However, some departments offer courses and semesters taught in English as well as practice placements with supervision in English.

Professional Bachelor´s Programmes • The Professional Bachelor’s degree is awarded after 180-270 ECTS and includes a period of work placement of at least 30 ECTS.

• The programmes are applied programmes. They are development-based and combine theoretical studies with a practical approach.

• The Danish title is Professionsbachelor i [field of study] and the English title is Bachelor of [field of study].

• Public higher education institutions in Denmark are regulated by national legislation concerning degree structures, teacher qualifications and examinations.

• All institutions are accredited by national, independent accreditation agencies and the Accreditation Council.

Research Mission • As a dynamic centre of research and development, UCL produces and disseminates knowledge vital to the welfare society:

♦ Applied research focused on the professional fields addressed through the educational programs ♦ Full research mandate to the Danish university colleges given from 2013 (except for PhD programmes) ♦ Research meant to qualify the educational programmes where possible through research based learning Capacity Building per 2015 Number of PhDs

Professional Development and Educational Resources • UCL offers continuing professional development in the fields of education, (theory and practice), social work, health and management.

• In addition, UCL makes learning resources, knowledge, skills and competences available to schools and teachers

• Furthermore, UCL designs development projects, education and training processes in close collaboration with municipalities, institutions and companies – always with a focus on strengthening and developing practice in the following professional areas: ♦ Teaching ♦ Social Education ♦ Social Work ♦ The health professions ♦ Management ♦ Interdisciplinary and Inter-Faculty work

Types of Higher Education Institutions in Denmark In Denmark, higher education is offered by five types of higher education institutions:

• Academies of Professional Higher Education (Erhvervsakademi) offering professionally oriented short cycle and first cycle degree programmes.

• University Colleges (Professionshøjskole) offering professionally oriented first cycle degree programmes.

• Maritime Education and Training Institutions offering professionally oriented short cycle and first cycle degree programmes.

• Research universities (Universitet) offering first, second and third cycle degree programmes in all academic disciplines.

• University level institutions offering first, second and third cycle degree programmes in subject fields such as architecture, design, music and fine and performing arts.

Most of the higher education institutions are regulated by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science (type 1-5). The Ministry of Culture regulates a small number of higher education institutions offering first, second and third cycle degree programmes in fine and performing arts (type 5).
