Royal Decree The Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) was founded in 2005 through a Royal Decree by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as a corporate body with full financial and administrative independence. The establishment of the Institute was an initiative of General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. His Highness envisioned IAT as a world class Career-Technical Education system that would produce the scientists, engineers, and technologists needed for the UAE to build a knowledge-based economy.

AD Poly Programs The flagship programs at AD Poly consist of Higher Diploma and/or Bachelor Degrees in Advanced Energy Engineering Technology (Nuclear Technology), Electronic Systems Engineering Technology (Mechatronics Technology), Information Security Engineering Technology, and Petrochemical Engineering Technology (Oil and Gas Technology).

Electronic Systems Engineering Technology (Mechatronics Technology)

Electronic System Engineering Technology lies at the heart of all advanced technologies since the modern industry is fully automated, run and controlled by Electronic Systems. The Electronic system program offers two areas of specialization, 1) Microelectronic Technology 2) Mechatronic Technology. A key electronic chip fabrication nowadays run at the nanometer scale requiring precise control of Mechatronics in semiconductor industry, expected to be developed in Abu Dhabi and this will bring in some of the best innovators and researchers to the UAE. It will help to create thousands of jobs and add billions of dirham for the economy. Besides micro- and nano-electronic chip industries, mechatronic technology plays a key role in almost all of the process industries from Oil and Gas to Chemical and many more. These technologies will help to create an entire technology cluster in Abu Dhabi fostering tremendous innovation & growth. Mechatronics technologists ensure that the product meets the quality standards to the microscopic scale (billionth of a meter). A Mechatronics technologist must minimize the risk of errors by doing preventive and corrective maintenance and by using Statistics to detect critical issues, etc.

Mechatronics technologists not only play a strong role in the different processes of production line but also at the same time perform as Maintenance or Equipment Technologists in order to gain full control over the production line in any process industry. He/She can also become a junior engineer by completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. The Higher Diploma in Electronic Systems provides significant credits towards a Bachelor’s Degree. Successful graduates will have job opportunities as process technologists in many different industries at highly competitive compensation packages. Unlike typical vocational programs, this program will produce students with strong analytical and communication skills and the ability to manage and run highly advanced tools with precise control.

Information Security Engineering Technology To meet the growing demands for Emirati Information Technology (IT) professionals and skilled manpower from various commercial, private/public, and governmental sectors in the Abu Dhabi Emirate, AD Poly decided to open a new program in Information Security Engineering Technology. This program is designed to serve UAE’s national information security and privacy. It focuses on implementing and using state of the art techniques and methods to develop specialized security technologists for secure software development, systems/servers administration, as well as networks and cyber security technology. Graduates of this program will become IT professionals who will provide practical IT solutions in different types of Information Systems, e.g., secure information & communication systems. The program thoroughly integrates knowledge and practical skills through a balanced delivery of instructional material. This unique combination offers the students solid knowledge towards gaining an accredited Higher Diploma and/or Bachelor Degree in information security while receiving specialized training leading to industrial-recognized qualifications at various levels of information security. An advantage of this program is that it is possible for AD Poly graduates with high achievements and ambitions to pursue further studies, i.e., Master Degree at local and

Petrochemical Engineering Technology (Oil & Gas Technology)

Oil and gas industries are considered the backbone of the global energy industry and the UAE is ranked amongst the world’s major suppliers. Therefore, AD Poly is developing a state-of-the-art program in Petrochemical Engineering Technology in cooperation with the well-known Emirati strategic industrial partner Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) along with the UK-based ASET International Oil and Gas Training Academy. The launch of this program comes as a result of the Abu Dhabi Economic Visionary Plan 2030. AD Poly aims to establish a cutting-edge Petrochemical Engineering program to qualify National graduates and prepare them for their technical careers with major emphasis on the strength of the know-how and hands-on training skills.

The Petrochemical Engineering program will not only integrate the theoretical knowledge and on-campus practical training but it will also strengthen the students’ practical skills by implementing OJT provided by the industrial partner ADNOC. This program will guarantee the graduates a prestigious job towards gaining an accredited Higher Diploma in Petrochemical Technology, in addition to securing international certification (License) in the specializations including plant process operation, mechanical technology, control and instrumentation technology, petrochemical technology & safety and environment.

The Petrochemical Engineering Technology Program offers the following specializations: 1- Petroleum Drilling and Well Engineering Technology 2- Oil and Gas Process Engineering Technology 3- Mechanical Engineering Technology 4- Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology

Admission Requirements The regular admissions requirements for AD Poly are the following:

Application Deadline To ensure consideration for admissions, applications should be submitted immediately.

•� Only Science stream students are eligible for

admission who have graduated after June 2009. •� Science stream applicants should have a

minimum average above 70%. •� Applicants must have International English

Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic band 5.0 or equivalent and be successful in the tests and interview in English. (Applicants who do not meet the above two criteria may enroll in the Foundation Program). •� Applicants must hold UAE nationality with a

valid family book and a current UAE passport & Emirates ID Card. •� Applicants must have sponsorship from an

official industrial organization. (The application for sponsorship is included in the application for admission.) •� Applicants must pass an admission

examination and interview. •� Applicants must produce a recent police

certificate of good conduct.
