Abstract     Prior to reading The Great Gatsby, students worked in groups to research one aspect of the 1920s. They selected their topic, researched, and then presented their findings to the class. Students created digital movies as their final project.    

Big Idea(s)     The Great Gatsby takes place during the 1920s and to better understand the novel you will be researching one aspect of the 1920s.

Students will research one aspect of the 1920's in preparation for the reading of The Great Gatsby.  They will then present their research to the class.

  For this project you and your partners will be researching one aspect of the 1920’s and then presenting your information via a Hollywood-like movie where you will be the writer, director and actor of the film.  You may also do a podcast that resembles a radio broadcast or you can write an article for a local newspaper that reports your findings.       Step 1: Pick your group.  No more than four people per group.   Step 2: Pick your topic.     Step 3: Begin your research.  Do not forget to utilize books.  Dig deep.                 Find new and interesting facts on your topic.       Step 4: Create your storyboard, script or outline (depending on which project you chose)      Step 5: Rehearse/write   Step 6: Film your movie, record your podcast or begin your article   Step 7: Edit your project   Step 8: Showcase your final piece     Final projects will be due on April 6th.       

  Be creative.   Be original.   Have fun.

Closing Final projects will be due on _______.   After viewing, each of the classes will recommend three films to be entered in the Film Festival Competition.  Those films will then compete for the Eisenhower Oscar.   We will have a viewing of all the nominations and each student will vote for their favorite.  Awards will be presented to the first, second and third place winners.   Be creative.   Be original.   Have fun.
