System description The Basic of the ATEX regulation for Honsberg products Since the 1st of July 2003, all instrumentation and protection systems for use in explosive areas have to comply with the new European regulation 94/9/EG (ATEX 95). With this regulation, the European community has created a base for an obligatory and uniform approach to purchasing, assembly and service regarding explosion protection of systems, instrumentation and components, which are supported by the EN-standards of the CENELEC and CEN-norm organisation. By adopting these standards during the construction and evaluation of explosion protection assemblies, the manufacturer can depend on the fact that he is developing systems, instrumentation and components which correspond with the requirements of ATEX 95. These are checked at a designated European Community inspection station by a compulsory and uniform procedure. After successfully passing these examinations, the inspection stations provide a manufacturer-independent certificate of design examination of the European Community. This guarantees the requirements of a uniformly accepted condition referring to the required security of explosion protection operation- a higher or highest level of security. This certificate, in conjunction with the procedure of quality assurance for production (appendix IV of guideline 94/9/EG), is the condition for manufacturing and release of explosion protected systems, instrumentation and components. In May 2004, HONSBERG was accepted into the group of ATEX-certified companies. At the same time, the existing certification-especially valid for the field of mining- was supplemented. The ATEX-certified products of the company HONSBERG conform with the requirements of the EN 50020, intrinsic safety "i" and fulfil the following listed certifications: I M1 EEx ia I II 1G EEx ia IIC T4 II 1D EEx iaD 20 T135 Since October 2004, HONSBERG also distribute instrumentation which conforms to the requirements of EN 50018, pressure resistant protection "d".
