To dzięki wsparciu Ministerstwa Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego oraz Miasta Poznań możliwe jest kontynuowanie tego wyjątkowego cyklu jakim jest Międzynarodowy Festiwal Muzyki Kameralnej „Q’arto Mondi”. Jak co roku postaramy się nie zawieźć Państwa oczekiwań artystycznych i zaprezentować zespoły różnorodne, ciekawe i intrygujące. Gościć będziemy reprezentantów wielu krajów, również z innych kontynentów, a to wszystko po to, aby tegoroczna edycja pozostała niezapomniana i wyjątkowa! Gospodarze festiwalu – Meccore String Quartet – pojawią się tym razem dwukrotnie, a poza nimi długa lista gwiazd: Doric Quartet (Wielka Brytania), Dover Quartet (USA), Kuss Quartett (Niemcy), Michel Lethiec (Francja), Quatour Hermes (Francja). Tradycją stały się również koncerty „Meccore Proms” gdzie prezentujemy wyróżniające się zespoły, które kształcą się pod naszą opieką pedagogiczną w Akademii Muzycznej im. I. J. Paderewskiego w Poznaniu oraz Uniwersytecie Muzycznym im. F. Chopina w Warszawie. Podczas festiwalu odbędą się również kursy mistrzowskie otwarte dla studentów (ale również publiczności z zewnątrz!) prowadzone przez wybitnego skrzypka, członka Artemis Quartett – Gregora Sigl’a. Program „Q’arto Mondi” został ułożony przez nas tak, aby każdy koncert był inny, ciekawy i spełnił oczekiwania nawet najbardziej wymagających amatorów tej doskonałej formy muzycznej. We are pleased to announce the sixth edition of the International Chamber Music Festival „Q’arto Mondi”. It will take place, just like every year, in Poznań, during the month of April. World’s leading artists, intriguing repertoire and a few novelties are ahead of us once again. This year’s inauguration will take place at the Aula NOVA of the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music, whereas for the rest of the concerts we invite you to the Red Chamber of the Działyński Palace. We are persuaded that the acoustic qualities of this noble venue will help an even wider audience approach the ideal that the chamber music represents, with a special focus on the string quartet. Our extraordinary artists will guarantee unforgettable memories and many unique artistic encounters! This year we will host two world-renowned „senior” quartets – Vogler Quartett and Fauré Quartett. The festival stage is also open for the younger generation of quartets represented this year by Armida Quartett and the hosts of the festival – the Meccore String Quartet. As an alternative for the quartet in its classical form, we have prepared a special concert of the Polish Cello Quartet. It is the festival’s tradition to give the floor to some of the most outstanding students of I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. They will have the opportunity to perform during the Meccore Proms concert, where many surprises await... Założony w 2007 roku Meccore String Quartet uznawany jest za jeden z najciekawszych kwartetów smyczkowych swojego pokolenia. Zespół od wielu lat zachwyca melomanów Europy i Ameryki, występując w ramach czołowych festiwali, takich jak Rheingau Musik Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, L. van Beethoven Easter Festival, Budapest Spring Festival, Heidelberg Frühling Musikfestival, Kissinger Sommer Musikfestival, Festival Radio France Montpellier, Bregenzer Festspiele, oraz w wielu prestiżowych salach koncertowych, jak chociażby Filharmonia Narodowa w Warszawie, Beethovenhaus w Bonn, Auditorio Nacional de Música w Madrycie, Wigmore Hall w Londynie, Musikverein w Wiedniu czy Frick Collection w Nowym Jorku. W 2014 roku Meccore String Quartet miał zaszczyt wystąpić jako pierwszy polski kwartet smyczkowy podczas obchodów Dnia Pamięci o Ofiarach Holokaustu w berlińskim Bundestagu.

Established in 2007, the Meccore String Quartet is one of Poland’s most compelling young ensembles. Since many years they have been a treat for music lovers in Europe and America, and have performed during most important music festivals such as Rheingau Musik Festival, Festspiele MecklenburgVorpommern, L. van Beethoven Easter Festival, Budapest Spring Festival, Heidelberg Frühling Musikfestival, Kissinger Sommer Musikfestival, Festival Radio France Montpellier, Bregenzer Festspiele, as well as in many prestigious concert halls such as the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw, Beethovenhaus in Bonn, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, Wigmore Hall in London, Musikverein in Vienna, Frick Collection in New York. In 2014 the ensemble had the honour to perform, as the first ever Polish String Quartet, during the ceremony on Holocaust Remembrance Day in the German Bundestag.

Kwartet był wielokrotnie nagradzany podczas prestiżowych konkursów muzyki kameralnej. W roku 2014 oraz 2012 otrzymał nagrodę Irene Steels-Wilsing Stiftung. W kwietniu 2012 roku zdobył II miejsce oraz nagrody za najlepsze wykonanie kwartetów W. A. Mozarta, J. Haydna, jak również utworu obowiązkowego B. Deana podczas Wigmore Hall String Quartet Competition w Londynie. W roku 2011 otrzymał Nagrodę Finalisty i Nagrodę Specjalną podczas Międzynarodowego Konkursu Kwartetów Smyczkowych „Premio Paolo Borciani” w Reggio Emilia. W 2011 roku Meccore String Quartet otrzymał nominację do nagrody „Paszport Polityki” w kategorii muzyka poważna m.in. za śmiałe łamanie konwenansów i stereotypów. W roku 2010 kwartet został laureatem I miejsca na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Muzyki Kameralnej w Weiden (II i III nagrody nie przyznano), a w roku 2009 zdobył I Nagrodę na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Muzyki Kameralnej im. Maxa Regera w Sondershausen.

The quartet has received numerous awards during prestigious chamber music competitions. In 2012 and again in 2014 it received the Irene Steels-Wilsing Stiftung award. In April 2012 Meccore won a 2nd prize, as well as awards for the best performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s and Joseph Haydn’s quartets, and for the performance of Brett Dean’s composition at the Wigmore Hall String Quartet Competition in London. In 2011 they obtained the Finalist Award and the Special Award at the International String Quartet Competition “Premio Paolo Borciani” in Reggio Emilia. Also in 2011 Meccore String Quartet was nominated for the “Paszport Polityki” Award in the classical music category for their innovative approach to music and for breaking the musical stereotypes. In 2010 the quartet won the 1st place at the International Chamber Music Competition in Weiden (2nd and 3rd prizes were not awarded). In 2009 the musicians were awarded the 1st prize of the Max Reger International Chamber Music Competition in Sonderhausen.

W roku 2012 kwartet uzyskał również stypendium na studia w mistrzowskiej klasie kameralistyki Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel w Brukseli. Meccore String Quartet doskonalił swoje umiejętności podczas kursów mistrzowskich (m.in. Reggio Emilia String Quartet Festival, Beethoven Haus Masterclass w Bonn, Jeunesses Musicales w Weikersheim), prowadzonych przez wybitnych artystów takich jak: Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet), Cuarteto Casals, Vogler Quartett, Kuss Quartett, Barthold Kuijken, Heime Müller, Antonello Farulli, Peter Cropper (Lindsay String Quartet). Ważnym wydarzeniem w życiu artystycznym zespołu było uczestniczenie w kursie interpretacji muzyki Ludwiga van Beethovena prowadzonym przez Alfreda Brendela. Kwartet oraz indywidualnie każdy z jego członków jest stypendystą Ministerstwa Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego i programu „Młoda Polska”. Dzięki wsparciu MKiDN Meccore String Quartet ma szansę na spełnienie swojej misji, jaką jest propagowanie muzyki kameralnej w miejscach o ograniczonym dostępie do dóbr kultury, kładąc szczególny nacisk na koncerty w szpitalach dla dzieci i młodzieży. Od roku 2010 Meccore String Quartet jest gospodarzem i organizatorem odbywającego się co roku w Poznaniu Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Muzyki Kameralnej „Q’arto Mondi”, w ramach którego prezentuje polskiej publiczności czołowych artystów światowej sceny kwartetowej. Członkowie zespołu prowadzą również działalność pedagogiczną, kierując klasami kameralistyki i skrzypiec w Akademii Muzycznej im. I. J. Paderewskiego w Poznaniu oraz Uniwersytecie Muzycznym im. F. Chopina w Warszawie.

Their performance of Franz Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” for Polish TV Kultura was nominated to the 2011 edition of “Gwarancje Kultury” award. The quartet was at first tutored by the members of the Camerata Quartet, then, from 2009 until 2014, they studied with the Artemis Quartet at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. In 2012 they were awarded a full scholarship of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel and followed their studies at the chamber music master class. Meccore String Quartet further developed their skills by taking part in master classes held by the most prominent artists, such as Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet), Cuarteto Casals, Vogler Quartet, Kuss Quartet, Barthold Kuijken, Heime Müller, Antonello Farulli, Peter Cropper (Lindsay String Quartet) at Reggio Emilia String Quartet Festival, Beethovenhaus Masterclass in Bonn, and Jeunesses Musicales in Weikersheim, among others. An important event in the artistic life of the quartet was their participation in the course on interpretation of Ludwig van Beethoven’s music held by Alfred Brendel. The quartet, as well as each of the members individually, are currently receiving scholarships from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as well as from the programme “Young Poland”. Through the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the ensemble can fulfil their mission, namely to popularise chamber music in places with limited access to culture, such as hospitals for young people and children. Since 2010 Meccore String Quartet have been hosting and organizing in Poznań the International Chamber Music Festival “Q’arto Mondi”, featuring top quartets from all over the world. The members of Meccore are also active in the pedagogical field, leading chamber music and violin classes at Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań and Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

Dover Quartet osiągnął międzynarodową sławę po zwycięstwie na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Kwartetów Smyczkowych w Banff w 2013 roku, otrzymując miano jednego z najbardziej rozchwytywanych kwartetów na świecie. W ostatnim czasie zespół został nazwany przez magazyn New Yorker „młodym, wiodącym amerykańskim kwartetem smyczkowym”, a magazyn The Strad okrzyknął go najbardziej wyróżniającym się spośród innych poprzez dojrzałość interpretacji i wykwintność tonalną. W sezonie artystycznym 2013-2014 kwartet został pierwszym w historii zespołem-rezydentem w szanowanym Curtis Institude of Music. W sezonie 2014/15 kwartet miał zaplanowanych ponad 100 koncertów w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Kanadzie, Ameryce Południowej i Europie, m. in. w Kennedy Center w Waszyngtonie, Schneider Concerts w Nowy Jorku oraz w londyńskiej Wigmore Hall. Zespół ma również w planach występy wspólnie z pianistami: Andre Watts, Anne Marie McDermott i Jon Kimura Parker; altowiolistami: Robero Diaz i Cynthia Phelps oraz z Pacifica Quartet. Dover Quartet jest laureatem czołowych nagród na międzynarodowych konkursach muzyki kameralnej, takich, jak Fischoff Competition, Wigmore Hall i Banff oraz brał udział w takich festiwalach, jak Chamber Musik Northwest, Artosphere, La Jolla SummerFest, Bravo! Vail, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. W sezonie artystycznym 2013/14 kwartet był gościemrezydentem Caramoor Festival, występując pod nazwą Ernst Stiefel String Quartet. Ponadto członkowie kwartetu występowali w roli solistów z wieloma sławnymi orkiestrami m.in.: Orkiestrą Filadelfijską i Orkiestrą Filharmonii Tokijskiej. Studiując w Curtis Institute i Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music Dover Quartet był pod wpływem tak znakomitych kwartetów jak Cleveland Quartet, Vermeer Quartet, czy Guarneri Quartet. W tym czasie mentorami zespołu byli też Shmuel Ashkenasi, James Dunham, Norman Fischer, Kenneth Goldsmith, Joseph Silverstein, Arnold Steinhardt, Michael Tree i Peter Wiley.

The Dover Quartet catapulted to international stardom following a stunning sweep of the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition, becoming one of the most indemand ensembles in the world. The New Yorker recently dubbed them “the young American string quartet of the moment,” and The Strad raved that the Quartet is “already pulling away from their peers with their exceptional interpretive maturity, tonal refinement and taut ensemble.” In 2013-14, the Quartet became the first ever Quartet-in-Residence for the venerated Curtis Institute of Music. During the 2014-15 season, the Dover Quartet will perform more than 100 concerts throughout the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe. Highlights include concerts for the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C, Schneider Concerts in New York City, and Wigmore Hall in London. The Quartet will also perform together with the pianists Andre Watts, AnneMarie McDermott, and Jon Kimura Parker; the violists Roberto Díaz and Cynthia Phelps; and the Pacifica Quartet. Last fall, the Dover Quartet won not only the Grand Prize but all three Special Prizes at the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition. The Quartet also won top prizes at the Fischoff Competition and the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, and has taken part in festivals such as Chamber Music Northwest, Artosphere, La Jolla SummerFest, Bravo! Kwartet jest członkiem programu Music for Food, który ma na celu pomóc ubogim społecznościom, a w szczególności muzykom cierpiącym z głodu w różnych krajach. Ponadto Dover Quartet będzie gościem-rezydentem podczas festiwali: Chamber Music Northwest, the Phoenix Chamber Music Festival, the Chamber Music Society of Logan i Festival Internacional de Musica de Cartagena, a w przyszłym sezonie artystycznym ma w planach występy w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Kanadzie, Niemczech, Austrii, Włoszech i Wielkiej Brytanii.

Silverstein, Arnold Steinhardt, Michael Tree, and Peter Wiley, and is dedicated to sharing their music with underserved communities and is an active member of Music for Food, an initiative to help musicians fight hunger in their home communities. In addition, the Quartet will participate in week-long residencies for Chamber Music Northwest, the Phoenix Chamber Music Festival, the Chamber Music Society of Logan, and the Festival Internacional de Musica de Cartagena. The Quartet has been reengaged a remarkable number of times for return appearances throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Great Britain.

Założyciele kwartetu, skrzypkowie Jana Kuss i Oliver Wille przez 25 lat podążali tą samą muzyczną drogą, co pozwoliło im dojrzeć do roli ekspertów w dziedzinie muzyki kameralnej. Po uformowaniu się kwartetu, razem z altowiolistą Williamem Colemanem i wiolonczelistą Mikayelem Hakhnazaryanem muzycy stali się pionierami w wykonawstwie muzyki kameralnej, ujawniając nowe muzyczne perspektywy i przyciągając szerokie grono słuchaczy.

Deep understanding of a work takes time to mature - that is self-evident for the Kuss Quartet; as is the courage, borne of personal discoveries, to develop their passion for experimentation. This is what the Kuss Quartet has stood for since the beginning of its professional career in 2002. The two founder members, Jana Kuss and Oliver Wille (violin) have been travelling the same musical path for 25 years. Together with their colleagues William Coleman and Mikayel Hakhnazaryan, they are pioneers of a concept-based presentation of chamber music, which reveals new musical perspectives and attracts a wide-ranging and cultured audience.

‘Kuss Plus’ -the ensemble’s classical lounge series - has become legendary in its success, making its mark on the Berlin music scene and getting close to its audience, not only in the literal sense. However, even whilst performing in cult clubs, classical music remains the quartet’s top priority. The exceptional openness of the players can be seen in their boundary-breaking concerts combining compositions for quartet with works of literature. Regular collaborations between the quartet and renowned actor Udo Samel have led to in invitations for the five to perform in numerous festivals and concert halls in Germany and Austria, with programmes such as ‘Ohne Grund nicht denken’ (Brecht/ Berg/ Beethoven), ‘Traumbilder’ (Heine/ Mendelssohn/ Schumann) and ‘Das Rauschen der Zeit’ (Mandelstam/ Stravinsky/ Tchaikowsky). In 2002 the Kuss Quartet was awarded first prize by the German Music Council and in the Borciani competition. The following year they won the Borletti-Buitoni Award and were selected for the European Concert Hall Organisation’s ‘Rising Stars’ programme.

Their international career has taken them from New York’s Carnegie Hall to Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, from London’s Wigmore Hall back to the Philharmonie in Berlin, their home city. Frequent engagements at major festivals include the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the Beethovenfest Bonn, Rheingau Musikfestival and the Edinburgh and Salzburg festivals, and they have toured the USA, Australia, South America and Japan. The Kuss Quartet inspires the next generation of chamber musicians in numerous international masterclasses. Furthermore, William Coleman (in Salzburg) and Oliver Wille (in Hannover and Birmingham) hold professorships at European music colleges. In terms of repertoire the Kuss Quartet casts its net wide, ranging from the music of the Renaissance to compositions by Helmut Lachenmann, Aribert Reimann and György Kurtág, with whom the group has close contact. Thanks to a grant from the state of Lower Saxony, the quartet are able to commission new works over the coming four years. Amongst their plans are first performances of compositions by Aribert Reimann and Enno Poppe. Following the success of their album ‘Bridges’ (Sony Classical), the English label Onyx Classics released the highlyacclaimed concept CD ‘Theme Russe’ in January 2012, with works and transcriptions by composers including Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and Schnittke. In November 2013 a third disk was released by Onyx Classics: Schubert’s quintet with cellist Miklós Perényi - a musician with whom the quartet are particularly fond of working. Their next album is due for release in Spring 2016, with Schoenberg’s second quartet (with Mojca Erdmann), Brahms’s third quartet and Brahms Lieder for soprano and string quartet arranged especially for the ensemble. The quartet enjoys further collaborations with artists such as Paul Meyer, Pierre-Laurant Aimard, Mojca Erdmann and slam poet Bas Böttcher.

Devoted to contemporary music, he has played premier performances of numerous pieces including concertos by composers such as: Penderecki, Corigliano, Denisow, Maratka, Ballif, Landowski, Decoust, Fourchotte, Scolai, Narita, Brotons, Giraud… In recent years, he played in Prague (“Luminarium” by Maratka), on tour in Spain (the Mozart Concerto), at the Puerto Rico Festival, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (Penderecki Sextet, first performance in the Netherlands) at the Festival “Présences” in Paris (with the Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France), in Corea, Japan, China, Vienna, Manchester (Piano Festival with B. Douglas and M. Dalberto), Warsaw (Beethoven Festival)… In January 2007 he took part in “Prades aux Champs-Elysées”, playing with B. Douglas, H. Tomasz Januchta jest kontrabasistą Filharmonii Narodowej w Warszawie. Współpracuje z wieloma orkiestrami i zespołami kameralnymi w kraju i za granicą, takimi jak Sinfonia Varsovia, Verbier Festival Orchestra, Philharmonie der Nationen, kwintet smyczkowy Transemble, Royal Quartet, Meccore String Quartet, Kwartet Prima Vista.

Tomasz Januchta is a double bass player with the Warsaw Philharmonic. He collaborates with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles in Poland and abroad, such as Sinfonia Varsovia, the Verbier Festival Orchestra, Philharmonie der Nationen, the Transemble string quintet, the Royal Quartet and the Prima Vista Quartet.

Jako kameralista występował na wielu festiwalach m.in. „BBC Proms”,„Kwartesencja” „Warszawska Jesień”, „Wielkanocny Festiwal Ludwiga van Beethovena”, „Musica Polonica Nova”, „Chopin i jego Europa”, „Ensemble”.

As a chamber musician, he has performed at many festivals, including the BBC Proms, Kwartesencja, Warsaw Autumn, Musica Polonica Nova, Chopin and his Europe, and the Ensemble Princess Daisy International Festival of Chamber Music.

Gry na kontrabasie uczył się w klasie K. Jendrysiaka i profesora A.Mysińskiego. Ukończył Uniwersytet Muzyczny w Warszawie. Otrzymał II nagrodę w Ogólnopolskim Konkursie Kontrabasowym w Elblągu oraz wyróżnienie w Ogólnopolskim Konkursie Kontrabasowym im. A. B.Ciechańskiego w Poznaniu. Jest wykładowcą na Międzynarodowym Festiwalu Kameralistyki „Ensemble” im Księżnej Daisy. Komponuje lub improwizuje muzykę do filmów, teatru i videoartu.

Januchta studied the double bass with Kazimierz Jendrysiak and Professor Andrzej Mysiński and is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. He won 2nd Prize at the Polish National Double Bass Competition in Elbląg and a honorary mention at the Polish National Adam Bronisław Ciechański Double Bass Competition in Poznań. Tomasz Januchta lectures at the Ensemble Princess Daisy International Festival of Chamber Music. He composes and improvises music to film, theatre and video art.

Maturity, sincerity, finesse and intelligence are certainly the most suitable words to describe the Quatuor Hermès. These qualities, very early noticed by Miguel Da Silva and the Ravel and Ysaÿe quartets, develop and maintain alongside Eberhard Feltz, Artemis Quartet and members of the Alban Berg Quartet.

Nie sposób nie zauważyć wzajemnie oddziałującej wrażliwości, która spaja tych czworo muzyków. Zaledwie po roku studiów w Conservatoire Supérieur de Lyon zespół zdobył I nagrodę na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Muzyki Kameralnej w Lyonie (2009) oraz nagrodę specjalną za najlepsze wykonanie Ainsi la Nuit Henri’ego Dutilleux. W następnych latach kwartet zwyciężył na Międzynarodowym Konkursie w Genewie oraz został laureatem Maurice Ravel Academy i Charles Oulmont Foundation.

Now, impossible not to be affected by the accomplice sensitivity linking the four musicians. A year after their training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon, the first prize at the International Chamber Music Lyon 2009 reveals them, a special prize for their interpretation of “Ainsi la Nuit”, Henri Dutilleux (SACEM prize). The charm works again in Geneva (first prize at the International Competiton 2011). At the same time, they are laureates of the Maurice Ravel Academy and the Charles Oulmont Foundation.

W 2012 roku muzycy zostali laureatami Young Concert Artist Auditions w Nowym Jorku, co otworzyło im drzwi do najlepszych sal koncertowych w USA.

In November 2012, it’s the consecration at the prestigious Young Concert Artist Auditions in New York. The four French win one of the first prizes, which opens the doors of the most beautiful american stages.

Od 2013 roku Quatuor Hermès regularnie występuje w Ameryce Północnej oraz w Europie na tak prestiżowych festiwalach jak: Lockenhaus, Orangerie de Sceaux, Radio France Montpellier czy Crescendo w Berlinie, a także w dalekiej Japonii oraz w Egipcie. W 2012 roku zespół wydał nakładem wytwórni Nascor swoją debiutancką płytę, na której znalazły się kwartety J. Haydna i L. van Beethovena.

A great tour in the USA is scheduled for Autumn 2013, but in the meantime, the “windged” quartet continues to travel trough Europe. They performed in the Lockenhaus festival, at the Orangerie de Sceaux, Festival Radio France Montpellier or Crescendo festival in Berlin. Their music has also brought them beyond the borders of Europe, such as Japan and Egypt, great opportunities to share their passion.

Skrzypek i altowiolista Gregor Sigl swoje pierwsze kroki w świecie muzyki stawiał pod okiem matki, rozpoczynając naukę gry na skrzypcach jako pięciolatek. Kontynuował swą muzyczną edukację w Miejskiej Szkole Muzycznej im. Alberta Greinera w Augsburgu. W wieku zaledwie dziesięciu lat zapisał się do klasy prof. Jürgena Geisego na renomowanym Uniwersytecie Mozarteum w Salzburgu. W następnych latach zdobywał pierwsze i drugie nagrody w Ogólnoniemieckim Konkursie Muzycznym Jugend Musiziert w kategoriach solowej gry skrzypcowej oraz kwartetu smyczkowego. W 1991 roku Sigl otrzymał stypendium na studia u amerykańskej skrzypaczki Lynn Blakeslee w Eastman School of Music w mieście Rochester w stanie Nowy Jork. Dwa lata później uczestniczył w międzynarodowych kursach mistrzowskich łotewskiego skrzypka Philippe Hirshhorna w Konserwatorium w Utrechcie. W latach 1997-1999 kształcił się u takich skrzypków, jak: Arjen Beintema, Viktor Liberman, Herman Krebbers, Alexander Kerr i Charles André Linale. Od 1997 roku Gregor Sigl jest regularnie zapraszany jako gościnny koncertmistrz i dyrektor muzyczny przez liczne orkiestry – Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Cameratę Salzburg, Orkiestrę Symfoniczną Miasta Birmingham czy Orkiestrę Symfoniczną Radia Szwedzkiego. Violinist and violist Gregor Sigl received early instruction in music from his mother starting at the age of five and continued his musical education at the “Albert Greiner Music School” in Augsburg. When only ten years old, he enrolled at the renowned “Mozarteum” Salzburg, in the class of Prof. Jürgen Geise. In the following years, Sigl won First and Second Prizes at Germany’s nationwide music competition “Jugend Musiziert”, receiving commendation in the violin solo and string quartet categories. In 1991 he was awarded a scholarship to study with American violinist Lynn Blakeslee at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. In 1993 Sigl was accepted to the international masterclass of Latvian violinist Philippe Hirshhorn at the Utrecht Conservatory. From 1997 to 1999 he completed his studies with violinists Arjen Beintema, Viktor Liberman, Herman Krebbers, Alexander Kerr and Charles André Linale. Ever since 1997 Sigl has regularly been invited as a guestconcertmaster and musical director with orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, the Camerata Salzburg and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has collaborated with conductors such as Sir Neville Marriner, Franz Welser-Möst, Sir Roger Norrington, Vassily Sinaisky, Sakari Oramo, Leonidas Kavakos, Daniel Harding, Zoltan Kocsis, Adam Fischer, Peter Eötvös, Trevor Pinnock, Michael Gielen, Sir Charles Mackerras and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Sigl holds professorships at the University of Fine Arts (Universität der Künste) in Berlin, as well as the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth) in Brussels. As a member of the Berlin based Artemis Quartet, Sigl performs at all the most important concert venues in Europe, the US, Japan, South America, Australia and at numerous international music festivals. Doric String Quartet zyskał miano wiodącego brytyjskiego kwartetu, otrzymując entuzjastyczne reakcje publiczności i krytyków na całym świecie. W 2006 roku otrzymał nagrodę programu YCAT, a w 2008 roku zdobył I nagrodę na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Kameralnym w Osace, II nagrodę na konkursie Premio Paolo Borciani we Włoszech oraz Ensemble Prize podczas Festiwalu Mecklenburg-Vorpommern w Niemczech. Kwartet koncertuje w najznamienitszych salach Europy, m.in. w amsterdamskim Concertgebouw, wiedeńskim Konzerthaus, frankfurckiej Alte Oper, hamburskiej Laeiszhalle i antwerpskiej De Singel, a także jest regularnym gościem w londyńskiej Wigmore Hall. The Doric String Quartet has firmly established itself as the leading British string quartet of its generation, receiving enthusiastic responses from audiences and critics across the globe. Selected for representation by YCAT in 2006, the Quartet went on to win several prizes including 1st prize at the 2008 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan, 2nd prize at the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italy and the Ensemble Prize at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany. The Quartet performs in leading concert halls throughout Europe including Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Vienna Konzerthaus, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Hamburg Laeiszhalle and De Singel, Antwerp, and is a regular visitor to the Wigmore Hall. In 2010 the Quartet made its highly acclaimed American debut with recitals at the Frick Museum in New York and Library of Congress in Washington, and now returns for annual tours to North America. Formed in 1998 at Pro Corda, The National School for Young Chamber Music Players, the Doric String Quartet studied on the Paris-based ProQuartet Professional Training Program, where they worked with members of the Alban Berg, Artemis, Hagen and LaSalle Quartets and with György Kurtag. The Quartet furthered its studies at the Music Academy in Basel where they worked extensively with Rainer Schmidt of the Hagen Quartet.
