Day 1 – ARRIVAL - EDINBURGH Arrival from your flight at Dublin Airport. Overnight: Edinburgh Your tour starts at your Edinburgh Hotel (Transfers not included). Day 2: BRAVEHEART & STIRLING Breakfast at the hotel. Overnight: Edinburgh 

Visit Bannockburn Visitor Centre & Stirling Castle

Travelling through the heart of Scotland, the coach will transport you to the brand new Bannockburn Centre. Learn about the eight year campaign was fought by Robert the Bruce, to drive the English from Scotland and be recognised as king. The climax of this was at the Battle of Bannockburn in Jun 1314. After two days of fighting it became clear that England was losing, causing Edward II to flee, leaving a disorderly and chaotic retreat. The English surrender meant that the Scottish victory was complete and Robert the Bruce took his position as King. Seen as one of the most significant Scottish victories in the Wars of Scottish Independence, the Battle of Bannockburn can be relived through an immersive, interactive 3D presentation. Here you will be able to experience medieval warfare like never before and discover how the tactics and decisions made by the two kings influenced the outcome of the Battle of Bannockburn. Following this, you shall travel to Stirling. Stirling is situated on one of the many loops of the River Forth It rises abruptly from the flat plains; a fortress with a colourful but blood-stained history. Because of its strategic position, guarding the route north, this was a fortress town since earliest times; bitterly fought over, bravely defended. The castle has appropriately been called the ‘Key to Scotland’. As a result its possession has been the focus of contention for many centuries, with battles like Bannockburn being fought in its shadow. We’ll drive through the old town to arrive at the castle. The present castle dates mainly from the 15th and 16th century. James III was born here in 1451, James V spent his childhood here, and the infant Mary Queen of Scots was crowned here on 9 September 1543. Your self-guided tour will show you the main features of the central turreted gatehouse with its flanking towers and curtain wall, the Great Hall, the Palace, one of the earliest Renaissance buildings in Scotland, and the Chapel Royal. Duration of the tour (4.5 hours) CONDITIONS & REMARKS Restrooms: Available at Bannockburn Visitor Centre & Stirling Castle Walking information: Not suitable for wheelchair users or those who struggle to walk distances due to the historic nature of the Stirling Castle site.

Your tour starts in the shore-side Visitor’s Centre where you’ll see an engaging photo gallery documenting historical and personal moments of the yacht and her passengers. See the Queen’s and Duke of Edinburgh’s cabins, the simple and comfortable large drawing room, impressive formal dining room, bridge, admiral’s suite, spotless engine room, open decks, and more. We also go `below` decks to view the crew accommodation, hospital facilities and the laundry. Returning to the exhibition centre, you can browse in the gift shop. Travelling the short distance from Leith to Edinburgh city center we next enjoy lunch at a city centre hotel. Our afternoon will bring us to the world renowned castle where our Guide gives us an overview of the main parts of the castle. We then have an independent visit of the castle and you must not forget to see the Scottish Crown Jewels! The unwritten history of Edinburgh goes back to the ancient British tribes who existed in clusters of wooden huts on the rocky slopes of the castle crag, choosing the windy heights for greater security. You enter the castle via the Esplanade which slopes steeply towards the main gate. There is much to see within the castle including the 15th century Old Royal Palace in which are housed the Scottish Crown Jewels. This will be followed by a panoramic sightseeing of the Old Town, including areas of Royal Mine and Canongate. Enjoy free time for shopping before returning to the hotel. Duration of the tour (7 hours 40 minutes) CONDITIONS & REMARKS Restrooms: Available at Royal Yacht Britannia, lunch venue and Edinburgh Castle Walking information: Not suitable for wheelchair users or those who struggle to walk distances. Inclined walk to Edinburgh Castle with cobblestones, steps and some areas that are difficult to negotiate. Day 4: SCONE PALACE, THE CROWNING PLACE OF SCOTTISH KINGS Breakfast at the hotel. Overnight: Edinburgh  Visit to Scone Palace Scone is a place that breathes history like nowhere else in Scotland. It is at the centre of Scotland both geographically and historically. Scone is indeed the place where you mingle with the many legends of Scotland’s past. Here, Macbeth, King of Scots, bled to death on the floor of Scone. Of the many King-making inaugurations and coronations here, King Robert the Bruce’s was the most dramatic. Having slain his rival he rode to Scone to be crowned by the Bishop of St. Andrews. In 1651 the last coronation took place at Scone Palace when King Charles II was crowned. We travel across the rolling landscape to reach the Palace, poised above the River Tay which is perhaps the greatest Salmon River in the world. Here the palace overlooks the roués north to the Highlands and east through Strathmore to the coast. The Grampian Mountains form a distant backdrop, and across the river stands the city of Perth. As we begin our tour of Scone Palace we are aware of the intrigues that history has bestowed on Scone. The Stone of Scone was kept at Scone for nearly 500 years before it was seized by King Edward in 1296 and taken to Westminster Abbey. The Stone was used at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II but has now been returned to the people of Scotland and forms part of the royal regalia at Edinburgh Castle. Day 1 – ARRIVAL - DUBLIN Arrival from your flight at Dublin Airport. Overnight: Dublin Your tour starts at your Dublin Hotel (Transfers not included). Day 2: DUBLIN HIGHLIGHTS Breakfast at the hotel. Depart on a city tour of Dublin. Overnight: Dublin Dublin, Ireland’s capital, has a wealth of attractions. It is a city steeped in history, tragic and glorious, with haunting memories of great patriots, statesmen, scientists and scholars. There are spacious streets, fine buildings and friendly people. Few capitals are so beautifully situated. Your panoramic sightseeing will show you the city highlights and include a visit to St. Patrick’s Cathedral – Ireland’s largest church which was founded beside a sacred well where St. Patrick is said to have baptized converts around AD450. Overlooking the River Liffey, you’ll see the Four Courts, a majestic structure commenced in 1785, and now the home of the Irish Law Courts, and the Customs House, built between 1781-1791, epitomising the great era of prosperity and elegance that Dublin knew in the latter half of the 18th century. Cross O’Connell Bridge under which the River Liffey flows, and pass along the main thoroughfare of O’Connell Street flanked by fine buildings and modern shops. You’ll then see Leinster House, the stately mansion now housing the two chambers of the Irish Parliament. It was originally built for the Duke of Leinster in 1745. The Kildare Street facade resembles that of a large town house. However, the rear, looking on to Merrion Square, has the air of a country estate complete with sweeping lawns. At Trinity College, founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I on the site of an Augustinian monastery, you can admire the fine buildings and courtyards that make up this well-known university, the oldest in Ireland. Here you will visit the Old Library and view the Book of Kells. The most richly decorated of Ireland’s medieval illuminated manuscripts; the Book of Kells may have been the work of monks from Iona, who fled to Kells in AD806 after a Viking raid. The book, which was moved to Trinity College in the 17th century, contains the four gospels in Latin. The scribes who copied the texts also embellished their calligraphy with intricate interlacing spirals as well as human figures and animals. You will also see the spectacular Long Room of the Library measuring 210 feet from end to end, and housing 200,000 antiquarian texts, marble busts of scholars and the oldest surviving harp in Ireland. You will be able to view an exhibition on how the Book of Kells was made, and general exhibits of Ireland, whilst waiting for entry to the viewing area. Your Guinness Brewery adventure thenbegins with a tour of the Guinness Storehouse. As you enter the Storehouse and walk into the building's giant, pint-shaped heart of glass, you will discover the dramatic company history dating back over 250 years. During your visit, learn about the ingredients, processes and effort that go into making Guinness. Next, you will view Guinness promotional material past and present in the Advertising Gallery, and learn how the drink that carries the Guinness name has traveled the world. Your tour of the Guinness Brewery ends in Gravity, the sky bar, for a demonstration of the proper way to pour and serve Guinness, or pull the perfect pint. Then sit back and relax with a Guinness of your own, and enjoy spectacular views over Dublin. Duration of the tour (7.5 hours) CONDITIONS & REMARKS Restrooms: Available at all main venues Walking information: Not recommended for wheelchair users or those who struggle to walk distances due to amount of walking involved.

Day 3: WHISKEY & WATER Breakfast at the hotel. Overnight: Dublin Your river-boat takes you on a tour of Dublin’s famous river. The River Liffey stands at the centre of Dublin’s history, a once bustling waterway. The city was built around the river’s trade. The river also plays a pivotal role in Irish literary history, with the Liffey flowing into the opening and ending of James Joyce’s famous novel “Finnegan’s Wake”. Your boat Guide will give an insight into the history of Dublin City and of the River Liffey in particular, from the first arrival of the Vikings over 1,000 years ago, to the rapid development of the city during the 18th and 19th centuries. Our panoramic city sightseeing will show us this delightfully compact city where the major sights are within a short distance of each other. Dublin is a city that appeals to the sense. It has an air of history that is tangible and a cultural legacy that will enchant the intellect. Passing along O’Connell Street we pass the General Post Office – a building catapulted into the annals of Irish history when it was seized by revolutionaries in 1916. We see The Four Courts, home to Ireland’s highest courts and the Custom House, popularly regarded as the best example of an 18th century public building and was built between 1781 and 1791. Dublin is characterised by its Georgian Squares including St. Stephen’s Green fashionable with the aristocracy in the second half of the 18th century. Set in the heart of Ireland’s thriving capital city, Dublin, the Old Jameson Distillery captures the imagination and the `spirit` of Ireland. Your visit will transport you back in time to the days when one of Ireland’s greatest entrepreneurs, John Jameson, first made the whiskey that is a legacy today. Originally built in 1780, the distillery, once considered one of the largest and finest distilleries in the world, has been recreated to its former glory and is now an award-winning visitor attraction. Once you enter the Distillery you step back in time by almost 200 years. Original support beams and kilns dominate the large reception area evoking the atmosphere for the start of your guided tour. Your visit begins with an audio visual presentation on the history and making of Jameson Whiskey. Small scale production in the earlier years became part of the Irish way of life, but in the 17th century, the English introduced a licensing system and started to close down stills. In the 19th century, post famine poverty and the Temperance movement combined to lower demand. The result was that Scotch whisky (with no `e`) stole an export march on the Irish, but in more recent years, thanks to lower production costs, improved marketing and the rise in popularity of Irish coffee, sales have been increasing. Your guided tour of the old distillery building will show you the various stages used in the production as you follow the path through the various stages of production. At the completion of the tour we visit the Jameson Bar where whiskey tasting takes place, and you are then invited to sample a tot of the product. You will then have time to browse in the gift shop featuring a wide selection of Jameson branded goods, and why not purchase that special bottle of Irish whiskey to take home as a reminder of your distillery tour. Duration of the tour (6.5 hours) CONDITIONS & REMARKS Walking information: Not suitable for wheelchair users or those who struggle to walk distances. Day 4: GLENDALOUGH Breakfast at the hotel. Overnight: Dublin Enjoy the serenity of the Irish countryside combined with the picturesque setting of Glendalough’s monastic ruins on this extraordinary introduction into Ireland’s many faces. Head south outside of Dublin to the green Wicklow Mountains where you’ll encounter the deep green glens and tranquil landscapes, for which the Irish countryside is so famous. Continuing further into County Wicklow, which richly deserves the title `Garden of Ireland`, there are breathtaking changes of scenery which occur around every bend. The County has everything that is thought Irish in its landscape - wild heather-covered glens and forests, high mountain peaks, deep loughs, ancient churches and stately houses.

Wicklow is also an area rich in history and culture. In the middle of this peaceful countryside we come to magical Glendalough. Famed for its beautiful scenery and historic monuments, Glendalough has been a centre for pilgrims and visitors from the time of the founding of its monastery by St. Kevin in the 6th century. The monastic settlement expanded and flourished for many years before being finally destroyed in the 16th century. The present remains tell only a small part of the monastic story and these probably date from between the 8th and 12th centuries. On arrival we watch an introductory video which sets the story of this unique monastic site. The early Christian site of Glendalough, ‘The Glen of the Two Lakes’, has overwhelmed people with its peace and isolation for many centuries. It is an enclave of holiness amongst the wilderness and its setting is unforgettable, high in the hills, with two small lakes cupped in a hollow. The steep, wooded slopes harbour one of Ireland’s most atmospheric monastic sites. There are the remains of a famous monastic school, founded by St. Kevin in AD520, remains of the churches spread between the upper and lower lakes, one of the best preserved Round Towers in the country and a roofless cathedral. This most century. Following our visit to Glendalough, we return through the Wicklow Hills, with more magnificent scenery to enjoy as you head back towards Dublin. Duration of the tour (4.5 hours) CONDITIONS & REMARKS Restrooms: Available at Glendalough Walking information: Not recommended for wheelchair users or those who struggle to walk distances as there are uneven surfaces and steps at Glendalough. Day 5: DUBLIN Breakfast at the hotel. Overnight: Dublin Enjoy the day at leisure. Day 6: Departure Breakfast at the Hotel. Check-out of the hotel. Transfers to the airport not included.
