Step 11  Select “Poweroff” and press “Enter”

 Remove the USB disk when RoBoard is powered down  Now you can boot into Lubuntu using the MicroSD card

Step 12  Booting into Lubuntu, you can login with ID:

“roboard” and password: “roboard”

Requirements  MicroSD card (≧4 GB) 

Here, we use 4GB MicroSD card for example

 MicroSD CardReader Note: Since RB-050 has no VGA, we apply another approach (using a virtual machine) to setup the demo image.

Download VirtualBox  Go to http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads  Download and install VirtualBox on your PC

Download RoBoard Lubuntu Demo Image  Go to http://www.roboard.com/download_ml.htm  Download the demo image

Step 1  Launch VirtualBox

Step 2  Create a new virtual machine for Linux

Step 3  Click “Next”

Step 4  Click “Next”

Step 5  Click “Continue” and then click “Finish”

Step 6  Select the new virtual machine  Click “Storage” and mount the Lubuntu Demo ISO

Step 7

Step 8  Click “OK”

Step 9  Click “Start”

Step 10  When you see Clonezilla boot screen, follow the two

steps below: 2

1 Right-click the USB icon to select your MicroSD CardReader

Select the first option and Press “Enter”

Step 11  Press “Enter”, and then “y” for two times; it will start

the restoring process

Step 12  Restoring… (15 ~ 20 minutes)

Step 13  Restoration completed; press “Enter” to continue Success message

Step 14  Select “Poweroff” and press “Enter”

Step 15  When you see the message below, right-click the

USB icon to remove the MicroSD CardReader and then press “Enter”

Step 16  Now you have made a Lubuntu MicroSD for RB-050  Plug the MicroSD to your RB-050 and turn on the

power to boot into Lubuntu

MicroSD card

Step 17  Booting into Lubuntu, you can login with ID:

“roboard” and password: “roboard”  Note: the RoBoard Lubuntu demo uses COM1 as the

default serial console

If You Connect to Internet with DHCP  Get RoBoard’s LAN number by doing “sudo

dhclient” (here is “eth4” for example)  Note: you should do this step at the first Lubuntu boot

If You Connect to Internet with DHCP  Edit “/etc/wicd/manager-settings.conf”  Find and modify “wired_interface” as your LAN

number

 Save and exit; then reboot system

If You Connect to Internet with Fixed IP  Edit “/etc/wicd/wired-settings.conf” to correctlly

set your ip, dns, gateway, ...

 For more reference, see http://manpages.ubuntu.com/ manpages/jaunty/man5/wicd-wired-settings.conf.5.html

Introduction  In the following, we show how to login the RoBoard

Lubuntu demo via VNC Remote Desktop  Especially useful for RB-050  Also useful for RB-100/100RD/110 if you want to

remote the VGA card

 To continue, you should ensure your RoBaord has

been connected to LAN

Introduction VNC remote desktop to RB-050

VNC remote desktop to RB-110 (RB-100/ RB-100RD)

Step 1  Power on your RoBoard, and boot into the RoBoard

Lubuntu demo  In Lubuntu terminal, execute “vncpasswd” to set a

new VNC password

Step 2  Execute “vncserver” to create a new VNC user  In this example, we get the user number as “1”

Step 3  Execute “ifconfig” to find the IP address of your

RoBoard  In this example, the IP address is 192.168.5.139

Step 4  Edit /etc/rc.local as below :

VNC user number

 Save and exit; reboot system

Step 5  Go to http://en.softonic.com/s/vnc-viewer  Download vncviewer and install it on your PC

Step 6  Launch vncviewer on your PC

Step 7  Type RoBoard’s IP and the VNC user number in format

“IP:user number”; then press “OK”

Step 8  Type the VNC Server password and press “OK”

Step 9  Now you can manipulate RoBoard via remote desktop.

Introduction  In the following, we show how to login the RoBoard

Lubuntu demo via Xming  Especially useful for RB-050  Also useful for RB-100/100RD/110 if you want to

remote the VGA card

 To continue, you should ensure your RoBaord has

been connected to LAN

Introduction Xming remote desktop to RB-050

Xming remote desktop to RB-110 (RB-100/ RB-100RD)

Step 1  Go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/files/  Download and Install Xming and Xming-fonts on your

PC 1

2

Step 2  Go to http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ download.html

 Download and Install PuTTY on your PC

Step 3  Launch Xming

 Launch PuTTY  Type your RoBoard’s IP  Select “SSH”

Step 4  Go to “Connection”

 “SSH”  “X11”  Select “Enable

4

X11

forwarding”  In “X

display location”, type localhost:0

1

2 3

 Click “Open”

5

Step 5  Now you can see the login screen

 Log in Lubuntu

Step 6  Execute “startlxde” to open X-desktop on your PC

Step 7  Then on your PC, the Lubuntu “home directory”

window and “panel” bar will appear

home directory window

panel bar

Note: that you may need to hide the taskbar of WinXP/Vista to see the panel bar

Step 8  Now you manipulate RoBoard via the remote X-

desktop

USB Camera  The RoBoard Lubuntu demo supports USB cameras

in default  You can execute “luvcview” in a Lubuntu terminal to

see your USB camera window

You Need  RoBoard RB-100 or RB-100RD or RB-110  VIA VT6655 WiFi miniPCI card

+

Step 1  In the Lubutnu terminal, execute “iwlist scanning”

to detect your AP status

Step 2  In the previous screen, find and record the following

four items:  ESSID (for this example, it is “3Com”)  Mode (for this example, it is “managed)  Channel (for this example, it is “11”)  ethx (your LAN number; for this example, it is “eth3”)

Step 3  Edit /etc/network/interfaces as below:

Type your wireless-key here

 Save and exit

Step 4  Edit “/etc/wicd/manager-settings.conf”  Find and modify “wireless_interface” to your LAN

number

 Save and exit; then reboot system  Your RoBoard should connect to wireless LAN after

reboot

Step 1  In default, the RoBoard Lubuntu demo force COM1

to serve as serial console  The serial console is useful for RB-050;  But for RB-100/100RD/110, you may want to disable it

to free RoBoard’s COM1

 In the following, we show how to disable the COM1

serial console

Step 2  In the Lubuntu terminal, edit

/etc/init/ttyS0.conf and modify it as below:

 Save and exit

Step 3  Edit /etc/default/grub and modify it as below :

 Save and exit

Step 4  Execute “sudo update-grub”

 Reboot system
