11th AnnuAl new OrleAns summer CAnCer meeting “Making Cancer Research Count for Patients” This is a 3-day national continuing medical education (CME) meeting designed for medical oncologists, hematologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, oncology nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physician assistants, residents and fellows in Hematology/ Oncology as well as other healthcare professionals involved in the management of cancer patients. The 11th Annual New Orleans Summer Cancer Meeting (NOSCM) is a major CME/CE event well established in the Southeast region of the United States. In 2016, the meeting has more innovations. Besides keeping the “Meet-TheProfessor” session which was a tremendous success and well received by the audience, and sometimes only seen in major congresses such as ASCO and ASH, the meeting will also incorporate a surgical session having 3 surgeons (ENT, Thoracic Surgery and GI Oncology surgery), a session special for specialized oncology nurses and also maintenance of certification in oncology for those physicians preparing for the American Board Re-Certification exam. Moreover, based on evaluations from the previous 10 consecutive years, this meeting will provide healthcare professionals taking care of cancer patients with the necessary tools to offer the best quality of care to their patients.

CONFERENCE LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of “New Orleans Summer Cancer Meeting” attendees will be able to: • Optimize personalized medicine to cancer patients by applying molecular test results from tumor tissue or blood. • Discuss genetics implications in the management of different solid tumor types and malignant hematologic diseases. • Understand the clinical indications, benefit, and potential complications from cyber knife, gamma knife, stereotactic body radiotherapy, and proton therapy in patients affected by different cancer types. • Understand the surgical indications, benefit and risk as well as potential complication from oropharyngeal, lung and pancreas surgery. • Learn novel carcinogenic pathways recently discovered as well as new indications from therapies recently approved by the US FDA for different malignant diagnoses. • Recognize when and to whom apply immunotherapy and how to follow the response in cancer patients treated with this novel modality of therapy. • Diagnose and establish immediate therapy for patients developing grade 3-4 side effects from novel immunotherapy agents, targeted therapies or conventional cytotoxic drugs. • Apply novel therapeutic options in rare cancers including brain tumors and sarcomas.

The 11th edition of this national CME/CE program will focus on integrating major advances in basic sciences and how to apply them into the routine clinical practice, and hence, deliver a personalized or individualized medicine to our patients. In 2016, the Educational Committee has included new topics including brain tumor, surgical approaches for oropharyngeal cancer, lung cancer and pancreas carcinoma, and sarcoma. As we know, all progress in oncology will not be possible if we do not have the support from novel technology in radiation therapy. In the 11th NOSCM, discussion on cyber knife, gamma knife and proton therapy will take place. The hematology session in 2016 counts with renowned hematologists who will cover the major hematologic malignancies including bone marrow transplantation as a therapeutic management. The length of the NOSCM allows plenty of time for the audience to discuss in depth different topics in medical oncology and hematology, and share their thoughts with national and international leaders in the field of lung cancer, breast cancer, melanoma, prostate cancer, gastrointestinal carcinomas, kidney carcinoma, ovarian and cervical cancer, head and neck cancer, supportive of care as well as many hematologic malignancies including multiple myeloma, lymphoma, leukemia, and others. The group of guest faculty is represented by expert clinicians and researchers from premier cancer centers in the United States. The most relevant clinical and investigational data presented at major cancer congresses such as the 2015 American Society of Hematology (ASH), the 2016 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the 2015 European Society of Medical Oncology, and the 2016 American Association for Cancer Research will be presented and discussed in this forum.

6. Post-evaluation follow-up sent to attendees; this will provide information of the post onference outcomes of those who attended this conference and how it may provide a change in the participants’ professional practice and/or treatment of their patients.

F
