Chapter 1

Introduction

The Kodiak Dispatch Console Installation Guide provides step-by-step information about the installation process of the Kodiak Dispatch Console application. This guide also explains the un-installation and upgrade process for the Kodiak Dispatch Console application.

1.1

Purpose and Scope This document is intended for the administrators, supervisors and the IT team members responsible for installing the Dispatch Console application for PoC service.

1.2

Terms and Definitions The following table provides the definitions of the abbreviations and acronyms used in this document.

Definitions

Amrnb

AMR-NB (Adaptive Multi-Rate Narrowband) is a vocoder employed in low-bit-rate applications like mobile phones.

CAT

Corporate Admin Tool - Using this tool the corporate admin can manage contacts and groups for corporate subscribers. These contacts and groups are downloaded to the handset of a corporate subscriber.

GUI

Graphical User Interface – A consistent set of graphical rules that allows a user to work with a computer.

IP

Internet Protocol – The network-layer protocol in the TCP/IP communications protocol suite. IP is the protocol used for sending data from one computer to another on the Internet.

LAN

Local Area Network

Definitions

MSMQ

Microsoft Message Queuing, or MSMQ, is a technology for asynchronous messaging. It is used for sending messages to each other application without knowing the results immediately. MSMQ communicates between remote machines and even over the Internet.

PoC

Push-to-Talk over Cellular – A service that enables users to make instant (real-time) group and one-to-one calls.

WyUpdate

WyUpdate is a third party executable, which checks for an application upgrade that is required. This upgrade is overridden by the newer version every time this third party tool is executed. Table 1-1 Terms and Definitions

About this Manual This document provides an overview of the Dispatch Console and step-by-step instructions for downloading and installing the Dispatch Console client. The document is organized as follows:

Chapter 2

Kodiak Dispatch Console

This chapter provides an overview of the Dispatch Console application. For more information on product features, refer to the Dispatch Console Quick Reference Guide. The Kodiak Dispatcher client is a Windows desktop application and provides the following key capabilities to the dispatcher: •

Manage the corporation’s PTT contacts and groups for dispatching purposes.



See presence status of all contacts and get presence updates in real time.



Initiate a PTT call to an individual, a pre-defined group, or an ad hoc group.



Use supervisory override to take over the floor of at any time during a PTT call by pre-empting the talker.



Monitor various talk groups and join or leave active group sessions.



Locate individuals or group members through Google Maps and make calls or send alerts by selecting members from the map.



Manage alerts received from the workforce in the field.



Record voice calls and view call history.

Hardware and Software Requirements

This chapter provides a detailed description of the hardware and software requirements for the application to be installed and executed on a Windows computer.

Pre-requisites for the Dispatch Console In order to run the Dispatch Console Application, the following pre-requisites must be installed or configured.

Pre-requisites

Minimum Hardware Requirements

• Processor: Dual Core 2 GHz • RAM (memory): 2 GB • Hard Disk: 120 GB • Monitor: 20-inch flat panel LCD Monitor with 1600 X1200 resolution • Standard sound card supporting a headset and a speaker • Data card: minimum 2 Mbps data connectivity

Software Requirements

• Software Required BEFORE Installing the Dispatch Console – Windows XP Professional SP 3 Operating system or Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit) – Internet Explorer (IE) 8.0 or above (for Google maps)

• Configured MSMQ: This should be configured before the Dispatch Console installation. To Configure MSMQ in Windows 7: 1. Click Start>Control Panel >Programs>Programs and Features 2. Click Turn Windows features on or off 3. Click ‘+’ next to Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) Server and check all the MSMQ feature options 4. Click OK to finish the MSMQ configuration and then manually restart the computer To Configure MSMQ in Windows XP: 1. Click Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs 2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components 3. Select Message Queuing and Click OK to install 4. Note:

The Dispatch Console Installer consists of numerous components, such as.Net Framework 4.0, Postgresql 9.1,Postgresql ODBC, Amrnb and Kodiak Dispatcher. These components are packaged along with the Dispatch Console Installer itself. The Dispatch Console will add SIP, RTP and RTCP port numbers to the local (Windows) firewall so that the dispatch console traffic can pass through the firewall to reach the server.

If You Don’t Want to Use a Data Card The current version of the dispatch console is intended to be used with a data card attached to a computer (and a cellular network connection). If you want to use the LAN instead, you will need to perform the following: •

If applicable to the router, disable “SIP ALG (application level gateway)”. e.g., on Cisco pix router:  

no fixup protocol SIP 5060 no fixup protocol SIP UDP 5060



If UDP ports are blocked, the local router should allow the ports from range 5000 to 55000 or allow * (all the ports).



Increase the “Idle time until a UDP slot is freed” to 40 minutes. e.g., on Cisco pix router: 



UDP hh[:mm[:ss]] - Idle time until a UDP slot is freed.

Change SIP timer to 30 minutes. e.g., on Cisco pix router: 



SIP hh[:mm[:ss]]

Modify the media timer to 40 minutes. e.g., on Cisco pix router: 

Chapter 4

Installing Process for Dispatch Console

This chapter provides a detailed description of the installation process for the Dispatch Console application.

4.1

Installing the Dispatch Console This section provides step-by-step instructions on installing the Dispatch Console application.

Note:

For Windows 7 Operating System, a dialog box may appear as User Account Control during the installation process. To continue, click Yes. To install: 1. Click the link provided in the PoC activation e-mail to download the Dispatch Console pre-installer. This activation e-mail also contains the activation key for initializing the Dispatch Console Application. For more information on using the activation key, refer to Figure 4-11.

2. Double-click the Dispatch Console pre-installer.

A wyUpdate window is displayed as shown below.

Figure 4-1 wyUpdate Window 3. Click Update to download and install the Dispatch Console application along with its pre-requisites. A wyUpdate Downloading and Installing updates window is displayed as shown below. This step downloads and installs the Dispatch Console application along with its pre-requisites.

After downloading the Dispatch Console package successfully, the Dispatch Console Installer is launched through wyUpdate as shown below.

If any of the above-mentioned components is already installed, then the Dispatch Console pre-installer will display "installed" against the respective component without a checkbox.

After successful installation of all the pre-installer components, a Welcome to Dispatch Console Setup Wizard window is displayed as shown below.

Click Next to proceed with the installation.

An End-User License Agreement window is displayed as shown below.

Check the terms for License Agreement option and click Next.

A Destination Folder window is displayed as shown below.

By default, C:\Program Files\Dispatch Console\ path is selected for Dispatch Console installation. To install the application to a different location, click Change and select the location accordingly. After successful installation, the Dispatch Console binaries are stored in the selected destination folder. 7.

Click Next

A Backup Configuration window is displayed as shown below.

For installation of the Backup Configuration Dispatch Console, select the path C:\ or click Browse and select a different location.

9. Note:

Enter the Backup space (Mb) in the field Backup space (Mb).

1000 MB is the minimum amount of disk space required for Backup configuration.

If the value entered in the Backup space field is less than 1000 MB, an error message will be displayed. Click OK to continue the installation. 10. Click Next. A Ready to install Dispatch Console window is displayed as shown below.

Install to begin the installation. An Installing Dispatch Console window is displayed;

Back to review or change the installation settings;

OR 

Cancel to abort the installation process.

After successful completion of the installation process, A Completed Dispatch Console Setup Wizard window is displayed as shown below.

Figure 4-9 Completed Dispatch Setup Wizard Window 12. Check the “Launch Dispatch Console when setup exits” option to display the Dispatch Console Home page by default after successful installation. OR Un-check the “Launch Dispatch Console when setup exits” option to launch the Dispatch Console application through a normal process. To launch the Dispatch Console, click Start>All Programs>Dispatch Console>Dispatch Console.

13. Click Finish. A pop-up window is displayed, click OK to continue. After successful completion of the installation setup, the Kodiak Dispatch Console application is initialized and its icon is displayed on the right-hand-side corner of the task bar as shown below.

Un-installing Dispatch Console

This chapter provides detailed information on the un-installation process.

5.1

Un-installing Dispatch Console The Dispatch Console can be un-installed in two ways: 

From the Start menu



From the Control Panel

Un-installing from the Start Menu This section explains the un-installation process of the Dispatch Console application from the Start menu. To un-install: 1.

Click Start>All Programs>Dispatch Console>Uninstall

A Windows Installer window is displayed as shown below.

Yes to un-install.

OR 

No to abort the un-installation process.

Un-installing from the Control Panel This section explains the un-installation process of the Dispatch Console application from the Control Panel. To un-install: 1. Click Start >Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. 2. Select Dispatch Console and click Remove. A confirmation pop-up is displayed. Click Yes to continue un-installation or No to abort the process. CAUTION: Do not un-install Dispatch Console components manually.

Chapter 6

Upgrading the Dispatch Console

This chapter provides detailed information on the upgrade process. When an upgrade (or update) is available, a pop-up text box will appear, as shown below:

Note:

After selecting the Upgrade option, the application is logged out automatically and then the upgrade process continues.

A WyUpdate Update Information window is displayed as shown below.

Figure 6-3 WyUpdate Update Information Window 2. Click Update to update the Dispatch Console application. A WyUpdate Downloading and Installing updates window is displayed as shown below. This step starts the process of updating the Dispatch Console application.

Note:

If some pre-defined processes related to the Dispatch Console Application are still running during the upgrade process, a Close Process window will be displayed. Select the respective process or processes and click Close All Processes and proceed with upgrade installation. Or you can click Cancel to abort the update process.
