HISTORY OF UNIVERSITAS GADJAH MADA Universitas Gadjah Mada was officially founded on December 19, 1949 based on Government Regulation No. 23 year 1949 about the merger of Higher Education into Universities dated on December 16, 1949, and was the first Higher Education established by the Republic of Indonesian Goverrnment after its independence. In the early days of its establishment, Gadjah Mada University had only 6 faculties, and at this moment there are 18 faculties, 1 Graduate School, and 1 Vocational School. Most Faculties in Gadjah Mada University composed of several Departments and Study Programs. The faculty of Engineering is one of the six faculties at the early establishment of Gadjah Mada University, formerly known as Bandoeng Engineering College (STT Bandoeng), where there are three courses, namely Civil Engineering, MechanicalElectrical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering sections. The activities of Gadjah Mada University are outlined in the form of Tri Dharma College, consist of Education and Teaching, Research, and Community Service.

VISION Vision of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of FT UGM (DTSL FT UGM) is to become a higher education institution in the field of civil engineering with international standards and to produce graduates who are reliable and ethical, professional, competent, and fight for the welfare of people.

MISSION The department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of FT UGM (DTSL FT UGM) carries out the following missions. 1. Providing education to prepare experts in the field of civil engineering who are reliable, ethical, competent, and professional. 2. Conducting research that supports education and science development, infrastructure technology, especially at the level of planning, design, implementation, operation, and maintenance. 3. Organizing community service by involving all academic society elements by empowering the role of stakeholders. 4. Improving the management of study program that is transparent, accountable, and able to push the performance of academic society of the study program as well as cooperating on an ongoing basis with educational institutions, research institutions, governments, businesses, and communities towards excellence and international institutions

RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION §Community of Resilience and Economic Development (CaRED) Collaborative research focused on natural disaster management area based on empowering people. This program is collaboration between Gadjah Mada University and Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, New Zealand. §Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) Collaborative research in natural disaster among some Natural Disaster Research Centers in universities in Indonesia: Gadjah Mada University, Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta University, Brawijaya University, and Islamic University of Indonesia; and universities in Japan: Kyoto University, Tsukuba University and Nigata University.

§Multimodal Sediment Disaster (MDS) Network Collaborative research about sediment disaster among universities in Japan: Kyoto University, Tsukuba University and Nigata University; universities in Taiwan: National Chengkung University; and universities Indonesia: Gadjah Mada University, Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta University, Brawijaya University, Islamic University of Indonesia, Sepuluh November Technology Institute, Jember University.

COOPERATION §Sustainable Civil Engineering And Construction Material (SCESCM) Collaborative Research about sustainable material with Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), and Hokkaido University (Japan) as coordinators of the research. Supported by: Lehigh University (USA), TU Delft University of Technology, TU-Eindhoven University (Netherlands), Nihon University (Japan), Diponegoro University, Sebelas Maret State University, Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University, Sultan Agung Islamic University of Semarang (Indonesia). §AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference on Natural Disaster (1st RCND) The first of a continuing series of regional conferences on natural disaster. Natural Disaster is a new field in the AUN/SEED-Net's Phase III. The Conference is hosted by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) – Indonesia as the Host Institution of the Natural Disaster Field, with the support from its Co-host Institutions, i.e. Institute Teknologi Bandung (ITB) – Indonesia and Chulalongkorn University (CU) – Thailand. The Conference is funded by AUN/SEED-Net and UGM.
