WHITE BEAR CENTER for the ARTS Founded in 1968 the WBCA has become the leading (nonprofit 501(c)3) arts organization in the Twin Cities North East Suburban area, offering 525 high quality art classes each year for children, families and adults. Our current membership has grown to over 950 people. We have achieved 282% growth in the past five years. The WBCA—Bringing People Together Anyone can be drawn to the arts, regardless of age, gender, or race. Art making is an essential human activity, taking the form of communication as well as expression. The arts help us celebrate our diversity as well as our common heritage. The WBCA offers 525 Quality Art Classes/Year • Visual arts • Literary arts • Dance and movement • Drama • Public education lectures The WBCA Offers Classes for Everyone • All ages 3 and up • All experience levels—beginner, intermediate, advance • New opportunities each quarter to explore many diverse art forms • 3-4 Premier workshops annually with nationally renowned artists • Custom classes for Scouts and Home school Co-ops

The WBCA—Creating Culturally Rich Communities The following events provide access to culture throughout the year to over 20,000 community members. The WBCA—Making Art Accessible to the Community WBCA is committed to building healthy communities and ensuring arts accessibility to those who might not otherwise have access. We serve over 4,500 children, families, adults and seniors annually through outreach programs, not including hundreds of people who view our off-site art exhibits. The WBCA-Building Healthy Communities The Arts Build Strong Young Citizens. According to a study conducted by Stanford University and the Carnegie Foundation* young people who participate in the arts are: • • • • •

The Arts Keep Seniors Healthy: According to the National Endowment for the Arts “Creativity and Aging Study,”* research shows that seniors who participate in the arts weekly have: • • • • •

The WBCA- Enriching Economic Vitality A study conducted by Americans for the Arts, Arts & Economic Prosperity III shows that there is a 7:1 return on investment of funding of the arts. The same study found that the nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $166.2 billion a year. Investment in WBCA goes right back into the community in the form of jobs, economic and cultural vitality.

The WBCA brings year round vitality to the White Bear Lake Area • • • • •



The WBCA offers year round art classes (over 525 per year) The WBCA special events attract thousands of people to downtown White Bear Lake area. In 2008, participants came from Wisconsin, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan and Florida to participate in WBCA workshops and classes, staying in local hotels. Approximately 70% of our daily participants are from outside the WBL area. In a recent survey we found that 95% of our students shop locally and socialize at area restaurants before or after attending classes at the WBCA. With an average of 20 classes weekly this equals over 150 patrons to downtown area businesses.
