MESSAGE My warmest greetings to the Philippine Science Community and the Department of Science and Technology as you observe National Science and Technology Week. As the Philippine continues to transform its systems and infrastructure to adapt to new global situations, the role of science and technology becomes ever more crucial in ensuring our success. The multifaceted branches of your field have enabled humankind to solve crucial issues, from sustainability to healthcare, industry, and the endless other applications through which knowledge empowers us. It is therefore integral for us to cultivate a more inquisitive society whose ingenuity and thirst for enlightenment accelerate our journey towards inclusive growth. May this event galvanize your community to craft programs and initiatives that will help us achieve lasting, equitable progress. Message It is my honor and privilege to welcome the Filipino public to the celebration of the 2015 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW). This year we have chosen the theme “Philippines: A Science Nation Innovating for Global Competitiveness” to bring home the point that we have what it takes to compete not only in Asia but throughout the rest of the world. Our scientists have carved major inroads in the field of S&T over the last two years, meriting recognition from the international science community. This is significant because under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III, the Department of Science and Technology has been able to reap the rewards of its strategic focus on enhancing S&T capability, including the country’s intellectual resources. From Day 1, we have dedicated ourselves in mastering and harnessing the transformational tools of today to create new opportunities for growth, so the Department would be able to achieve the goals set forth in its eight major outcomes in agriculture, enterprises, industries, IT-business process management, connectivity, health, education, and disaster preparedness. We take pride in our contribution in pushing the innovation agenda in key result areas of the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan. I hope you can join the DOST family in observing this dynamic synergy by participating in the events and activities we have organized for the NSTW this year.

Message Welcome to the celebration of the 2015 National Science and Technology Week. This year’s activities are in keeping with the theme, “The Philippines: A Science Nation Innovating for Global Competitiveness.” We at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) believe that as one Nation, the Filipino people must be informed of the S&T sector’s contributions to the country’s competitiveness and productivity. The DOST is committed to partnering with its stakeholders in setting policies and generating solutions to condition our key sectors in responding to long-term impacts of both globalization and regionalization, in light of the emergence of an ASEAN integrated market on December 31, 2015. Moreover, the challenges the times demand the broader adoption of S&T applications in practically every aspect of our lives, for we are living in a world that marches to the beat of scientific discovery and technological innovation. The challenge therefore lies upon us to take a more forward-looking, enterprising approach so that we can contribute in capturing new market opportunities beyond our shores. I invite the public to come join us at the SMX Convention Center in the activities planned for this central event of the Philippine science community. Once again, welcome to the 2015 National Science and Technology Week.
