QUEL CHE BOLLE IN PENTOLA WHAT’S COOKING Sunday at the Center - March 23, 2014 - 2:00 to 4:00pm The Spaghetti West documents the film genre referred to as Spaghetti Westerns. These movies were made in Italy, where production costs were very cheap and the terrain offered perfectly believable sets, during the 1950s and ‘60s. While Sergio Leone became the most well-known director that succeeded in the genre, a number of famous film personalities such as Clint Eastwood and Ennio Morricone established themselves in these Westerns. The film utilizes clips of some of the most famous scenes. In English and Italian. Sunday at the Center - April 27, 2014 - 2:00 to 4:00pm Enchanted April - Two cloistered, married English women (Josie Lawrence, Miranda Richardson) impulsively rent an Italian villa and embark upon a vacation without their spouses. They are joined by two other ladies, the high-flown aging widow Joan Plowright, and elegant upper-crust beauty Polly Walker, whom they have never met. Under the spell of an exotic new locaion, the foursome are in for quite a few life-altering experiences, many of them amusing, and not a few very surprising. Impeccably accurate in its recreaion of European manners and mores in the 1920s. Enchanted April is sheer bliss from fade-in to fade-out. In English.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM YOUR NEW PRESIDENT I would like to take this opportunity to address the North Bay Italian Cultural Foundation membership as your new president. I am honored that the Board of Directors has the confidence in me to lead the Foundation and to continue its mission to promote Italian culture throughout the North Bay. Jeanette Mancini Mitchell has done a great job as president over the past 30 years. Through her leadership, vision, and guidance the North Bay Italian Cultural Foundation has grown into a vibrant organization that has been an asset to the community by promoting Italian culture. I am glad to report that Jeanette will continue as a Board member. I look forward to her guidance and advice. I would also like to recognize and congratulate the newly elected North Bay Italian Cultural Foundation officers. Maggie Brothers first Vice President, Susan Adler second Vice President, Linda Apel Treasurer, and Virginia Mennucci Wilburn as Secretary. We have a great team and with the collective talents, dedication, and energy of the officers and Board of Directors, I believe that the North Bay Italian Cultural Foundation will continue to grow in the North bay. I would like to give you a little background about myself. I was born and raised in New York City and grew up in a close knit Italian community. I am a first generation Italian American. My family came from two regions in Italy, Liguria (Genova) and Toscana (Pietrasanta). I learned to speak Italian at an early age. I am very proud of my Italian heritage and I have traveled to Italy many times to visit relatives and tour the country. Being interested in history I enjoyed visiting the many historical sites around the country. I worked for various automotive companies as a technical specialist and also held various management positions. I retired in 2008. In 2009 my wife Anna and I moved from New Jersey to Santa Rosa to be closer to our grandchildren. We joined NBICF in December of 2009 and I was elected to the Board of Directors in 2012. I was also co-chairman for Festa Italiana in 2013. Through NBICF we have met wonderful people and became friends with many of them. Joining NBICF made our transition to Santa Rosa very enjoyable. My responsibilities to the membership is to continue to build our Foundation in the North Bay, insuring that you, as members can take pride in being part of an organization that has contributed to furthering Italian culture within the community. We will continue to promote fund raisers that will add to the Foundation’s Financial viability and continue our scholarship programs. With your support our Foundation will continue to succeed in fostering Italian culture in the North Bay.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

In Italy, for thirty years, under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed. But they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, and they had five hundred years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.
