From the Desk of the Principal Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends of St. Rose of Lima School, The opening of the 2011-12 school year has brought many new faces to the St. Rose of Lima School. A new principal, four new homeroom teachers, three new special subject teachers, and a new teacher aide will bring new ideas and excitement to the St. Rose School Community. We realize and respect the many traditions and legacies of this strong and vibrant parish and school community. In Memorium On January 15th of this year, the St. Rose Community lost a young alum, Conor Henry O'Kane. Conor was a young man of 19 who was taken from us suddenly and much too early, but who lived a life rich in Faith, Family and Friends. Conor attended Catholic school his entire life, attended mass regularly, and received the Sacraments regularly. Conor enjoyed spending time with his immediate family, mom and dad, brother Nevin and sister Darby; as well as his large and extended family (over 20 aunts and uncles and 44 first and second cousins). Conor made it a point never to miss a family get-together, even came home willingly from college on an early Saturday morning to cut down the family Christmas tree with his younger siblings (see picture). Conor enjoyed and played many team sports, mainly because of the large number of friends they provided; friends that he held close and spent a lot of time with in the mutual pursuit of fun.

Conor (center) with his brother, Nevin and sister, Darby on their Christmas tree hunt this past December.

Conor was a sophomore at LaSalle University where he was studying accounting and was a starting defenseman for the Explorers ice hockey team; and a 2009 graduate of Bishop Eustace Prep, where he played ice hockey and rowed crew. Conor was a 2005 graduate of St. Rose of Lima School and a very active member of the community. While at St. Rose School, Conor was Student Council President and played basketball. Through the generosity of those who knew him, over $9,000 was donated in Conor's name to the Saint Rose Annual Fund, restricted to tuition assistance. In addition, his friends and family have organized a Conor O’Kane Memorial Fund, whose mission is to assist families with Catholic school tuition. A Conor O’Kane Catholic High School Hockey Tournament is scheduled for Thanksgiving Weekend, 2011 at the Vineland Ice Arena. We would like to thank the following donors that gave in memory of Conor.
