3. Review and Adjust User Connection Types Specify the users that you wish to use the concurrent session or named user metric. A user can use either the named user license, or the concurrent session license. 1.

Identify those users you wish to use the named user license model.

2.

Ensure you have a license key for that number of named users.

3.

All remaining users in your system must by configured as concurrent users.

4.

Configure those users to be ‘concurrent’

There are 3 ways to adjust the user connection types:  Manually  Using a script  Using a partner solution

For example: Your new license consists of 100 named users and 100 concurrent sessions. You have 1,000 users configured in your system. Pick 100 of those to have the ‘Named User’ connection type. The remaining 900 users need to be configured as ‘Concurrent User’. © 2016 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved.

Changing the User Connection Type Scripting Method

For systems with large numbers of users, the manual method is not scalable. You can use this script published on SCN to do a bulk update of user connection types http://scn.sap.com/community/bi-platform/java-sdk/blog/2013/05/14/scripts-for-user-management There are multiple scripts on this page. See the script titled “Change Users to Named or Concurrent”

5. Check Compliance After removing all CPU license keys, use the CMC and navigate to Settings > View Global System Metrics. This page shows the total number of user accounts, and will alert you if you have more named user accounts than licenses. Reduce the number of named user accounts until the error message goes away

Example showing a system with 1 NUL license key, and 2 users configured with the named user connection type. Note the compliance warning message.
