Introduction to the ACA 1&2 Teacher’s Guide The Aesop’s Childhood Adventures (ACA) Teacher’s Guide provides pedagogical guidance on applying the Common Core standards to the stories of Aesop’s Childhood Adventures Series. The purpose is to facilitate the teacher’s efforts to create practical lesson plans. This guidance is provided in the form of tables that contain both the core standard and the guidance as illustrated below: [RL.2.2] Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.

[RL.3.2] Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text.

Lessons: • Never trust a friend who runs away when you need them most. –> Fact: The taller boy hid when the shorter boy asked for help. • A good friend will always be there when you need them. –> Fact: The taller boy ignored the shorter boy asked for help. • A friend is your friend till the end. –> Fact: The taller boy was not by the shorter boy’s side. • Spelling Tip: A friend is your friend till the end.

This manual does not contains the pages of each story. You will need to purchase the paperback or the Teacher’s eBook. We recommend the Teacher’s eBook because it is in PDF format and can be easily printed or displayed. The guide is organized by story and the guidance is specific to each story. However, the teacher may want to expand the scope of the compare, contrast and opinion pieces to include multiple stories. Spiral bound: This guide was formatted so that it could be spiral bound. Any printer (such as Kinko’s) can do this for a reasonable fee. They will cut the binding, punch the holes and add the spiral binding. Childhood Adventures Series

Each fable is told from the perspective of a child observing the world and learning from it. In this truly unique series, Aesop is that child. He comes to life as an inquisitive, confident young raccoon who goes on a daily adventure and experiences each fable as it unfolds. Aesop’s grandmother encourages him to go on these adventures so that he may find answers to his many questions. Upon his return Aesop shares what he has learned with his grandmother who validates his conclusions. One of the most powerful forms of learning occurs through real life experience and self motivation. Learning begins with curiosity and succeeds only with perseverance.
