PATIENT CENTRED OCCLUSION FOR DENTURISTS

The CQR/Confidenture lecture will be presented by Ronald G. Presswood, DDS/CDT and Jonathan Bill (UK). This lecture will give you a deeper understanding on how to create outstanding functional dentures by allowing them to replicate the movement of the TMJ. We will discuss the history of this unique concept and the research performed at the Loughborough University (UK), one of the world’s leading bio-mechanic universities, which supports and underpins our techniques. It will challenge all of today’s established occlusal concepts.

Ronald G. Presswood, DDS/CDT Ronald Presswood was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas Dental Branch, Houston in 1965. He interned in the U.S. Navy, 1965-6, and entered private practice in Houston in 1968. DO YOU KNOW PERIODONTICS? YOU SHOULD!

French 2 UFC

Periodontal diseases are a major public health problem. Along with cavities, they are the most widespread conditions affecting the oral cavity. They were also identified as a risk factor for systemic diseases such as diabetes as well as cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. Periodontitis is characterized by a progressive degradation of dental supporting tissues and is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Let’s not forget that with the multiplication of implant supported restorations, the number of perio-implantological complications is on the rise. In this context, it is vital that each dental team member has a basic knowledge of periodontics to ensure quality care for their patients. This conference aims at providing basic periodontics notions to denturists including periodontal and perio-implantological prevention, diagnostic and treatment. The impact of periodontitis on the patients’ general oral health and quality of life will also be discussed. A brief relation between periodontitis and dental implants will conclude the conference. Clinical cases will be used to illustrate this presentation.

Dr Andrew Zakrzewski, DMD, M.Sc., FRCD(C) Dr. Andrew Zakrzewski completed his denturism technique in 1996. Afterwards, he pursued his education at Université Laval where he obtained his doctorate of dental medicine in 2001. After having completed a multidisciplinary residence in 2002, he received his dental science master’s degree and periodontics certificate from Université Laval (2005). He became of Periodontics Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 2006. Currently, he practices periodontics and dental implantology privately in Quebec City along with being a lecturer for the periodontics undergraduate and graduate programs of Université Laval.

LEARN MORE ABOUT INTRA-ORAL PHOTOS AND MACRO-PHOTOS

Alain Gauthier, DD, has always had a passion for photography and for several years it has been his pleasure to integrate photography into denturism, both for his own office and through the medium of the “Le Denturo” journal, as well as for the Association of Denturists of Quebec. It was therefore with pleasure that he accepted our invitation to share with you his knowledge of the subject. He will discuss intra-oral photos, macro-photos, and their usefulness in the dental domain.

Alain Gauthier, DD The technological evolution of recent years offers access to innovative tools, but one must still know how to use them. A presentation by Mr. Gauthier will be of great interest, permitting you better mastery of these innovations, or, simply, letting you discover them.

OCCLUSION AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO IMPLANTS

Complete dentures retained by implants are becoming more commonplace in our industry. As such, we are also becoming aware of several challenges in transitioning a patient who has been wearing dentures for many years to an implant retained denture. Some of these challenges include denture chipping, popping out, or general difficulty chewing. A further setback is multiple relining of an implant retained denture without success; resulting in an unhappy patient. These situations leave the practitioner frustrated and wondering as to the cause and why remedies did not work. This lecture will touch on managing occlusion considerations (in relation to implants) and options for treatment planning in efforts to provide an understanding why these challenges occur and how to manage them.

Marc Wagenseil, DD, CDT Marc Wagenseil is a graduate of NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) and has been practicing for over 21 years. He currently owns and operates Heritage Dental Lab and Denture Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Marc is both a licensed denturist and dental technician. He has invested extensively in continuing education in Germany and Canada to the point where he now has acted as a consultant for several dental companies including Candulor, Kavo, Merz, and Vita. Marc has lectured in Canada and internationally in Australia, England and Germany. Most importantly he has spent extensive time with Vita and Dr E. End, the inventor of Physiodens, to understand not only the Physiodens philosophy but to ensure complete familiarity of how these denture teeth function in group and lingualized occlusion. In November of 2009 Marc trained at Vita in Germany becoming a facilitator for MFT denture teeth. Along with this knowledge and experience, Marc brings his passion for dentures and clinical experience to his lectures.

DENTURE SUCCESS FROM CASE HISTORY TO PROSTHESIS PLACEMENT

French 4 UFC

Patients' expectations of accurate, detailed results mean that our quality must be flawless. This has made us look at total tooth loss treatment differently and to design prostheses adaptable to different clinical situations. These demands are not an obstacle; they serve as a springboard for us to make our mark through the quality of our work. In this session, we will compare, in detail, the key points of a prosthetic restoration from case history to prosthesis placement including; Primary and secondary impressions, Face bow: YES or NO and what type of tooth for what type of prosthesis. Because every patient wants to be taken care of individually, we will also review individual characterization of the restoration using the new Nexco gingiva product. Finally, why not let technology, like the Ivobase Injector, take care of prosthesis polymerization? We will review the advantages of Ivobase and how to incorporate it into your clinic. Products presented: BPS – Phonares II teeth, Ivobase, Nexco Gingiva

THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF IMPLANT-BASED DENTURES

Dr. Wagner is eager to demonstrate the techniques required to make denture fabrication a predictable and profitable service in any general dental practice. Implants have changed the nature of fabricating removable complete dentures, making the experience much more satisfying for both the patient and dentist. Above all, the lecture stresses a practical and common sense approach to caring for the edentulous patient. Following completion of the program, the participant should have the knowledge to: 1. Understand the skills and techniques required to diagnose and treatment plan the edentulous patient. 2. Understand the treatment choices available for restoring the edentulous patient. 3. Prescribe and use implants to support removable complete dentures. 4. Organize and implement a simplifed but high-quality denture service in a contemporary general dental practice.

THE ULTRA SUCTION SYSTEM TAKE TWO AN INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY

Room: Mont-Royal French 2 UFC

Those of you who did not have the opportunity to attend the training on the benefits and installation of the new Ultra Suction technology may do so at the Symposium. Daniel Léveillé, DD, will help you truly understand the system’s operation. Designed to help stabilize dentures, the Ultra Suction System integrates two valves into the denture recess. When the patient bites, the air stored between the gingiva and the denture is evacuated by these valves thereby creating suction and keeping the denture in place. The adjustment is precise: your patient will be comfortable and will be able to eat in all confidence.

Daniel Léveillé, DD Daniel Léveillé has been practicing denturism for over 17 years. In 2002, he became the Montreal Region Administrator for the Association des denturologistes du Québec (ADQ). He is the author of the very popular Daniel’s Finds column of Le Denturo magazine and was named Quebec Denturist of The year in 2008. His remarkable involvement in the denturism field has garnered international notoriety. Daniel did an excellent job in Korea last year, at the last National Symposium on Denturism, during the 2009 ADQ regional tour and last spring with CuspiDent. Daniel Léveillé, DD, is one of the most appreciated trainers and speakers.
