ECITB Offshore Project Management ACTIVE Cup Competition

Nominations now open for the 2016 Competition 29th February - 2nd March 2016 Carnoustie Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa

The ECITB Project Management ACTIVE Cup is a learning based event delivered in association with Cranfield University that will give each participant experience in: • • • • • • • • • •

Managing a project from inception to completion The fundamentals of Project Planning (without IT) Negotiation of claims Resolution of disputes Highly time-pressured teamwork Project management techniques Behavioural aspects Change management & Client Driven Scope Changes Benefits of using Earned Value to monitor project progress Understanding where & why the project is not progressing to plan • Accountability of the commercial implications related to poor planning and execution The task is to manage a fixed price construction project, from inception to completion, financed by negotiated loan capital, on behalf of an external client. The competition is based on a computer simulation, tracking actual project progress against the team’s planned schedule. The teams are also accountable to the ‘Project Board’ at stage gate reviews when profit forecasts deviate from the plan.

The winning team is judged to be the one making the most profit against their initial bid price and, in the judgment of the adjudicators, pays most heed to and operates in accordance with the ACTIVE Principles. The competition is open to Project Management Practitioners, Project Team members, Support/service staff, e.g. HR and accounts personnel who interface with and provide services to project teams. FOREWORD

Welcome to the ECITB’s 2015 Oil and Gas Project Management Conference. This important collaborative venture led by theOffshore Project Management Steering Group (OPMSG) is focused on addressing the key issues we face as an industry, namely how we can truly collaborate to gain the necessary cost reductions and efficiency in our North Sea operations and how we can get the best out of our people. These issues affect us all and we all have a stake in the future. Most significantly the 2015 conference has senior sponsorship from the Oil and Gas industry and I am delighted that the event is supported by organisations across the whole industry and supply chain. I am grateful for the support of all sponsors and contributors who have helped to make our industry event possible. The ECITB, as one of the industry’s key skills organisations, has brought together the oil and gas community to share good practice and to help drive positive change. Our aim is to bridge the gap between the theory and practice through the experience of senior practitioners to help the industry remain internationally competitive. How we perform in our roles and how we address technical and business issues is key to future success. We have to change as an industry and how we collaborate and work more efficiently is critical. This year’s conference will address some of these issues. The need is pressing. We have to continue to build and retain our skills base. We have to ensure that we continue to invest in our people and operations, especially key areas such as project management. The conference will help to pull together these key themes and address what we need to do and where we need to share good practice. Working together we can bridge the knowledge gap and help the industry build a stronger and more sustainable future. This conference is a step forward on that journey.

“We have to change as an industry and how we collaborate and work more efficiently is critical.”

Chris Claydon Chief Executive, ECITB
