A CHRISTMAS JOB FOR YOU

“Let your beard grow long and white,

By Brian St. Germain, 2002

And dress yourself in red, I want you to be Santa Claus

This is a story of Christmas Eve,

And use a bus for a sled”

A night that should bring joy,

We take our bellies full of laughs, (Ho- Ho)

And how the Magic was born one night,

We take our hugs so tight, (squeeze)

From the heart of a great big boy!

We take them out on Christmas Eve, (ring-ring)

Bob came home one winter’s night,

We take out joy that night. (Yippee)

Feeling all alone,

So when you see our buses fly,

He just dropped off his ailing wife,

The Magic of Christmas lives,

To live in a nursing home;

It started with a simple prayer,

With two young girls beside his knee

Joy is a gift - God gives;

He prayed, “What will I do”,

And now each Christmas comes alive,

God gave his answer, a simple phrase,

Brought by a special few,

“I’ve got a job for you”.

A star shines brightly in the sky,

“Take your belly full of laughs, (Ho-Ho)

He’s got a job for you.

Take your hugs so tight, (squeeze)

So take your belly full of laughs, (Ho-Ho)

Take them out on Christmas Eve, (ring-ring)

And take your hugs so tight, (squeeze)

Take out joy that night!” (Yippee)

Take them out on Christmas Eve, (ring-ring)

As it happened, down the street,

And take out joy tonight! (Yippee)

A couple quarreled long, He threw some gifts into a sack,

AWAY IN A MANGER

And both his girls brought song;

Away in a manger, no crib for his bed,

“Merry Christmas! It’s Christmas Eve!

the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.

A day for peace and joy!

The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,

For you, your wife and all your kids,

The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

Please take these humble toys.”

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,

He took his belly full of laughs, (Ho-Ho)

but little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.

He took his hugs so tight, (squeeze)

I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky,

He took them out on Christmas Eve, (ring-ring)

And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

He took out joy that night. (Yippee) God said, “Take your friends, take some gifts,

DECK THE HALLS

And take your children too,

Deck the halls with boughs of holly

Take your hope in what I’ve said,

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

I’ve got a job for you”;

'Tis the season to be jolly

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,

Don we now our gay apparel

"Do you know what I know?

Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.

In your palace warm, mighty king,

Troll the ancient Yuletide carol

Do you know what I know?

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

A Child, a Child shivers in the cold--

See the blazing Yule before us.

Let us bring him silver and gold,

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Let us bring him silver and gold."

Strike the harp and join the chorus.

Said the king to the people everywhere,

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

"Listen to what I say!

Follow me in merry measure.

Pray for peace, people, everywhere,

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Listen to what I say!

while I tell of Yuletide treasure.

The Child, the Child sleeping in the night

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

He will bring us goodness and light,

fast away the old year passes.

He will bring us goodness and light."

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la Hail the New Year, lads and lasses Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

FROSTY THE SNOWMAN Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul With a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal

DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR?

Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say

Said the night wind to the little lamb,

He was made of snow but the children know how he

"Do you see what I see?

came to life one day

Way up in the sky, little lamb,

There must have been some magic in that old silk hat

Do you see what I see?

they found

A star, a star, dancing in the night

For when they placed it on his head he began to

With a tail as big as a kite,

dance around

With a tail as big as a kite."

Ohhhhh, Frosty the Snowman was alive as he could

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,

be

"Do you hear what I hear?

and the children say he could laugh and play

Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,

Just the same as you and me

Do you hear what I hear?

Thumpetty thump thump thumpety thump thump

A song, a song high above the trees

Look at Frosty go

With a voice as big as the the sea,

Thumpetty thump thump thumpety thump thump

With a voice as big as the the sea."

Over the hills of snow

Frosty the snowman knew the sun was hot that day So he said "Let's run and we'll have some fun now before I melt away" Down to the village with a broomstick in his hand Running here and there all around the square saying catch me if you can He led them down the streets of town right to the traffic cop And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler "Stop!" For Frosty the snowman had to hurry on his way But he waved goodbye saying, "Don't you cry I'll be back again some day" Thumpetty thump thump thumpety thump thump Look at Frosty go Thumpetty thump thump thumpety thump thump Over the hills of snow

HAVE A HOLLY JOLLY CHRISTMAS Have a holly, jolly Christmas; It's the best time of the year I don't know if there'll be snow but have a cup of cheer Have a holly, jolly Christmas; And when you walk down the street Say Hello to friends you know and everyone you meet Oh! ho! The mistletoe hung where you can see; Somebody waits for you; Kiss her once for me Have a holly jolly Christmas and in case you didn't hear Oh by golly have a holly jolly Christmas this year

GOOD KING WENCESLAS Good King Wenceslas looked out on the feast of Stephen, when the snow lay round about, deep and crisp and even. Brightly shown the moon that night, though the frost was cruel, when a poor man came in sight, gathering winter fuel. Hither, page, and stand by me. If thou know it telling: yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling? Sire, he lives a good league hence, underneath the mountain, right against the forest fence

HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS Have yourself a merry little Christmas. Let your heart be light, From now on our troubles will be out of sight. Have yourself a merry little Christmas; Make the Yuletide gay, From now on our troubles will be miles away. Here we are as in olden days, Happy golden days of yore, Faithful friends who are dear to us gather near to us once more. Through the years we all will be together If the Fates allow, Hang a shining star on the highest bough,

And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

I can see me now on Christmas morning Creeping down the stairs Oh what joy, what surprise

HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS Here comes Santa Claus! Here comes Santa Claus! Right down Santa Claus Lane! Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer are pulling on the reins. Bells are ringing, children singing; All is merry and bright. Hang your stockings and say your prayers, 'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight. Here comes Santa Claus! Here comes Santa Claus! Right down Santa Claus Lane! He's got a bag that is filled with toys for the boys and girls again. Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle, What a beautiful sight. Jump in bed; cover up your head, 'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.

When I open up my eyes To see a hippo hero standing there I want a hippopotamus for Christmas Only a hippopotamus will do No crocodiles, no rhinosaurus I only likes hippopotamuses [sic] And hippopotamuses [sic] like me, too Mom says a hippo would eat me up, but then Teacher says a hippo is a vegetarian There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage."

JINGLE BELLS Dashing through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh Over the fields we go laughing all the way; Bells on bobtail ring making spirits bright What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight Jingle bells, jingle bells jingle all the way!

I WANT A HIPPOPOTAMUS FOR

O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh A day or two ago I thought I'd take a ride

CHRISTMAS

And soon Miss Fanny Bright was seated by my side;

"I want a hippopotamus for Christmas

The horse was lean and lank; misfortune seemed his

Only a hippopotamus will do

lot;

I don't want a doll, no dinkey tinker toys

He got into a drifted bank and we got upsot

I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells jingle all the way!

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas

O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh

I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells jingle all the way!

He won't have to use a dirty chimney flue

O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh

Just bring him through the front door That's the easy thing to do

LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,

SNOW

On my drum?

Oh the weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful And since we've no place to go Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! It doesn't show signs of stopping and I've bought some corn for popping The lights are turned way down low

Mary Nodded, pa rum pum pum pum, The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum I play me best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum me and my drum

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! When we finally kiss goodnight

RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED

how I'll hate going out in the storm!

REINDEER

But if you'll really hold me tight

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and

all the way home I'll be warm

Vixen,

The fire is slowly dying

Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen,

and, my dear,

but do you recall the most famous reindeer of all?

we're still goodbying

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer had a very shiny

But as long as you love me so

nose,

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

and if you ever saw it, you could even say it glows. All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names;

LITTLE DRUMMER BOY Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum, So, to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum, When we come. Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum

they never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games. Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say: Rudolph with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?" Then how the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, you'll go down in history."

I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum

SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN

rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

You better watch out, you better not cry

Better not pout, I'm telling you why

style

Santa Claus is coming to town

In the air there's a feeling of Christmas

He's making a list, and checking it twice;

Children laughing, people passing

Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice

Meeting smile after smile, and on ev'ry street corner

Santa Claus is coming to town

you'll hear

He sees you when you're sleeping

Silver bells, silver bells

He knows when you're awake

It's Christmas time in the city

He knows if you've been bad or good

Ring-a-ling hear them sing soon it will be Christmas

So be good for goodness sake!

day

OH! You better watch out!

Strings of street lights, even stop lights

You better not cry

Blink a bright red and green

Better not pout I'm telling you why

As the shoppers rush home with their treasures

Santa Claus is coming to town

Hear the snow crunch, see the kids bunch

Santa Claus is coming to town.

This is Santa's big scene And above all this bustle you'll hear

SILENT NIGHT Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright.

Silver bells, silver bells it's Christmas time in the city Ring-a-ling, hear them sing soon it will be Christmas day

Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child. Holy infant so tender and mild,

THE CHISTMAS SONG

Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire

Silent night, holy night!

Jack Frost nipping at your nose

Shepherds quake at the sight.

Yuletide carols being sung by a choir

Glories stream from heaven afar

And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe

Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born.

help to make the season bright

Silent night, holy night!

Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow

Son of God love's pure light.

Will find it hard to sleep tonight

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

They know that Santa's on his way

With dawn of redeeming grace,

He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh

Jesus Lord, at Thy birth. Jesus Lord, at Thy birth.

And every mother's child is gonna spy to see if Reindeer really know how to fly

SILVER BELLS City sidewalks, busy sidewalks. Dressed in holiday

and so, I'm offering this simple phrase to kids from one to ninety-two

Altho' it's been said many times, many ways

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

"Merry Christmas to you"

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash,

THE FIRST NOEL The first Noel, the angel did say, Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, On a cold winter's night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. They looked up and saw a star shining in the East, beyond them far; and to the earth it gave great light, and so it continued both day and night. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. And by the light of that same star, three wise men came from country far; to seek for a King was their intent, and to follow the star wherever it went. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel.

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer, With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads; And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my hand, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

Who's got a big red cherry nose

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

Santa's got a big red cherry nose

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

Who laughs this way

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

HO HO HO

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

Santa laughs this way

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

HO HO HO

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

HO HO HO, cherry nose

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Cap on head, suit that's red

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

Special night, beard that's white

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

Must be Santa Must be Santa

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

Must be Santa, Santa Claus

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

Who very soon will come our way

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

Santa very soon will come our way

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

Eight little reindeer pull his sleigh

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

Santa's little reindeer pull his sleigh

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

Reindeer sleigh, come our way

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

HO HO HO, cherry nose Cap on head, suit that's red
