WELCOME PARTY

LAYOUTS & DISPLAYS

Ballroom A in the Convention Center is the location of our famous Welcome Party on Thursday night August 11th.

The layouts and displays will be located inside the trading hall (Ballroom B).

The Welcome Party includes hot and cold Hors d’ Oeuvres, No-Host bar, and Silent Auction. We encourage members to purchase Welcome Party tickets at the early buy price of $40.00 each with their registration. Welcome Party tickets will be available at the door subject to availability at $45.00 each. The highlight of the Welcome Party is the Silent Auction, where members can bid on all sorts of toy train merchandise. Traditionally, the Silent Auction offered merchandise from the TTOS archives as well as merchandise donated by members and the TTOS Divisions. A few years ago, we started including some premium items and pre and postwar trains to spice up the event. For 2011 we will continue to add premium and prewar and postwar items to the Silent Auction for our members enjoyment.

SUPER RAFFLE In 2008 TTOS introduced a new type of raffle we call the “Super Raffle.” The Super Raffle featured three exciting high dollar prizes and proved to be a hit with our members. For our 2011 TTOS Convention we are pleased to announce we are continuing the Super Raffle. Tickets for the Super Raffle are $10.00 each, which gives the buyer two chances to win. Members may purchase as many tickets as they desire for more chances to win a prize. We will sell a maximum of 1000 Super Raffle tickets. We sell Super Raffle tickets only at the convention to TTOS members registered to attend the convention. The winning tickets will be drawn at the Saturday night banquet, and the winner need not be present to win.

As you cross beautiful marshlands and travel lovely live oak canopied roads, you will be treated to the history of the large plantations that once occupied these islands and stories of the unique culture and language of the sea island black people who worked these plantations. One of the highlights of this tour will be a stop at the Charleston Tea Plantation, the only tea plantation in the United States. Over 100 years ago, tea planters brought their finest plants from China, India, and Ceylon to the South Carolina Low Country. Now the descendants of those very plants are growing strong at the nation’s only tea plantation, nestled on a serene sea island near the historic city of Charleston. At the tea plantation, you will take a narrated tour of the tea field, tour the tea factory, and visit the gift shop where you will be treated to a sample of this delicious tea. Next, you will travel to the Firefly Distillery located at the Irvin House Vineyards. As you enter the gates at Irvin House, you will be enchanted with the neat rows of muscadine vines so lovingly planted by the Irvin family. They bear fruit that is not only delicious but also excellent for your health. Upon arrival, your hosts will introduce you to the muscadine and the process used for making their wonderful wines. After you have had the chance to soak up this great country farm atmosphere you will be treated to tastes of the wine and the delicious Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, which originated on this plantation. What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon in the Deep South! Note: A bag lunch is included at the Tea Plantation with Chicken Salad Sandwich, Chips, a Cookie and a soft drink or bottled water.
