Ch 26 HOLY TRINITY AND OTHER CHARITIES,
Ch 26 AYLESFORD
Introduction This collection consists principally of the records of Holy Trinity Aylesford, but also contains records of the Faunce, Savidge, Sedley and Church Lands charities. The Faunce, Savidge and Sedley charities which like Holy Trinity were for the use of the poor of Aylesford, were transferred to Holy Trinity in 1865. The hospital of the Holy Trinity was established by Sir William Sedley in 1625, in accordance with the will of his father, Sir John Sedley. By the beginning of the nineteenth century the Earls of Portmore, descendents of Sir William had appropriated the college property to their own use, and the college was disolved in 1827 on the death of the only surviving inmate. The college was re-established in 1842, largely due to the efforts of Thomas Robson. The Savidge and Sedley charities were established in 1625 and 1626 respectively. The Church Lands were assigned at an unknown period for the repair of Aylesford church.
