Dual satellite 22 KHz tone switching Deluxe model with 13/18 V battery pack and charger

The CM-1004IFD, CM-1007A and CM-1008A aid in the alignment of a satellite dish. They include satellite IF (950 to 2150 MHz) amplification and a broadband detector. The detector drives a meter and a variable frequency audio tone. The dish is then aligned for maximum meter deflection or highest pitch tone. A gain control allows a wide range of input signal levels. The units are connected to the LNB via a short coaxial cable. The CM-1004IFD output must be connected to the satellite receiver in order to supply power. The units operate from 11 to 24 VDC on the coaxial cable. Connection to the receiver is optional with the CM-1007A and CM-1008A but extends battery life between charges. All models allow measurement of voltage on the coaxial cable. The CM-1007A and CM-1008A will also measure LNB current. The CM-1007A and CM-1008A includes an internal rechargeable NiCad battery pack, carrying strap and a wall plug recharging unit.

22

The internal battery pack allows a dish to be aligned before it is connected to the satellite receiver. The battery pack is switchable between 13 and 18 V output, allowing either polarization to be selected when used with a voltage switched LNB. In US DBS applications, LHCP is selected when the LNB voltage is nominally 17 V. The CM-1007A and CM-1008A now includes a 22 KHz tone switching signal to facilitate multi-satellite installation and alignment. The CM-1008A includes two meters in one housing allowing easy alignment of dual satellite single dish installations. When peaking, the dish signal level can be viewed for both LNB’s simultaneously, making alignment quick and easy. Carrying case included. Certain commonly used spare parts are also available. HD ANTENNA SELECTION & SPECIFICATIONS All Channel Master antennas are classified according to sensitivity: for example, “fringe,” “suburban,” etc. These ratings are designed to indicate at what distance from a TV transmitter the antenna provides the best reception. These ratings are based on optimum conditions over unobstructed terrain. Factors such as the type of terrain, the number and placement of buildings along the signal path, and the height and power output of the transmitting tower will have a bearing on the type of antenna which is appropriate. Channel Master has long been recognized as the foremost designer of high performance antennas. Our engineers have prepared the following classifications according to exacting standards. Examine very carefully any manufacturer’s claim of greater performance.

WHICH AN TENNA WO R KS BEST FOR YOUR L O CAT I O N ? Selecting the right antenna can be an easy task when you have the right information. One valuable tool is the Consumer Electronics Associations antenna selector web site WWW.ANTENNAWEB.ORG where you can find out which TV channels are available in your area, including the direction of the transmit towers and the TYPE OF ANTENNA needed to receive these stations. On each antenna box you will see the CEA antenna selector chart classifying the antenna. For example, if the web site says you need a medium directional antenna, choose the antenna that is classified as a medium directional or better. The Antenna Reference Chart, on Page 38 of this catalog, shows the CEA classification for all Channel Master antennas.

PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK! WARNING! Installation or removal of antennas near power lines is dangerous. For safe installation, read and carefully follow the instructions included with every Channel Master antenna. Never let any part of the antenna, mast, or guying assembly touch any power line. If a metal part does touch a line, it will complete an electrical path through the antenna to you, and you could be killed or seriously injured. We strongly recommend that you stay a distance away from all power lines of a minimum of twice the total length of the antenna and mast.

SUPERIOR RECEPTION FEATURES AND RUGGED WEATHER-DEFYING STRENGTH All models feature heavy-duty elements designed to withstand wind and weather, including ABS insulators able to endure, even hurricane weather. Reinforced element sleeves provide added strength at greatest stress points on long elements.

Double boom truss construction on larger ULTRA-HI CROSSFIRE antennas keeps elements inline and prevents antenna sagging even under heavy ice loads. High-strength truss boom braces reinforce the double boom and prevent structural distortion.

Spun boom ends on all models offer stability in high winds and prevent annoying wind whistle.

All-aluminum phasing crossover harness available on all ULTRA-HI CROSSFIRE (see Page 4) and ADVANTAGE (see Page 5) models for years of excellent reception that include insulating spacers to prevent shorting and keep all elements working in perfect harmony.

Sturdy snaplocks and reinforced sleeves are on longer elements for all Channel Master’s antennas.

HDTV ANTENNA SELECTION A receiving antenna is a device for intercepting the electromagnetic waves or signals, sent from a transmitter. Some antennas are simple vertical poles; others are small wire loops attached to the back of a television set. The outdoor TV antenna design, which most of us are familiar with, is the central horizontal boom with small elements attached at right angles.

The main receiving element of an antenna is called the dipole. All of the other antenna parts are designed primarily to help the dipole do its job. The transmission line is attached to the dipole which consists of two half-elements. All other antenna parts are designed and positioned around the dipole.

HDTV ANTENNA TYPES Television antennas can be grouped in five major functional categories: HDTV VHF / FM VHF HIGH / UHF VHF high band/ UHF antennas receive channels 7 to 69. After the analog shutoff in February 2009 the full power stations that will remain are channels 2 to 51. However only 2% of the TV stations in the country will use channels 2 to 6, so the VHF high/ UHF will become more popular. UHF / VHF / FM FM ONLY combinations

VHF / FM ANTENNAS Most VHF (Very High Frequency) antennas are engineered to receive TV channels 2 through 13. They also will receive the FM radio band, which is located between TV channels 6 and 7. FM ONLY antennas are available also. Channels 2 through 6 are known as the low band. Channels 7 through 13 are referred to as the high band. Some VHF antennas are designed to receive only one band, either the low or high band. Antennas designed to receive both the low band and the high band are called VHF/FM broadband antennas.

change in frequency assignments by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). A reshuffling of FM, Amateur, and other bands removed TV from the frequencies previously reserved for TV channel 1. Because the other 12 TV channels were already numbered 2 through 13, the channel 1 designation was dropped.

UHF ANTENNAS

G ENERAL I NFORMATION

HD ANTENNA SELECTION & SPECIFICATIONS

UHF (Ultra High Frequency) antennas are designed to receive TV channels 14 through 69, the UHF TV band. The UHF TV band originally extended from channel 14 to channel 83. However, the FCC now has reassigned channels 70 through 83 (also known as the translator band) to mobile communications use. Although there are still many antennas capable of receiving all 82 channels, the translator band (former TV channels 70 through 83) is useless to the TV viewer. UHF TV antennas come in a wider variety of shapes and sizes than VHF/FM antennas. The variety of UHF designs is possible because they do not require the long elements the VHF/FM antennas do.

COMBINATION UHF / VHF / FM ANTENNAS Combination UHF/VHF/FM TV antennas are designed to receive both the UHF and the VHF/FM bands. Although the use of separate antennas for each band is ideal for peak reception, high-performance UHF/VHF/FM combination models are readily available and are the more popular choice.

HD ANTENNA SELECTION & SPECIFICATIONS TYPICAL SENSITIVITY CLASSIFICATIONS

DIRECTIVITY Directivity is the ability of an antenna to intercept signals from only one direction and reject those from other directions. Directivity indicates the antenna’s ability to intercept signals arriving at its front and reject signals coming from the sides and rear. Generally, the more highly directive an antenna, the better it can reject signals from the sides and rear. The front-to-back ratio of an antenna can be helpful when attempting to determine its directivity. Front-to-back ratio is expressed in decibels (dB). This ratio indicates an antenna’s ability to reject signals coming from the rear (i.e. rear rejection). For example, an antenna with a front-to-back ratio of 25 dB will receive about 18 times more signal strength from the front than from the back. In most cases, comparing its specified front-to-back ratio with the relative sensitivity classifications listed in Typical Sensitivity Classifications table can make an acceptably accurate estimate of an antenna’s directivity.

The sensitivity classifications in the table to the right are intended only as general guidelines for evaluating directivity. Other factors, such as the antenna’s beamwidth, can affect its directivity. Beamwidth is related to an antenna’s overall gain and indicates how wide or narrow the reception area of the antenna is. For example, if two antennas have the same front-to-back ratio, the one with the highest overall gain will have the narrowest beamwidth and consequently, will be the most directive. An antenna with a relatively narrow beamwidth generally is best suited for areas where interference from sides is a problem. An antenna with a broad beamwidth is best suited for areas where a broad beam is needed to capture the signals from widely separated stations, and where interference is minimal. Beamwidth information, if included by the manufacturer, is usually displayed by use of polar plots as in the example at right. Selecting the most suitable antenna becomes easy with experience, but selecting quality materials should be the first decision to make before starting any installation. High-performance reception usually requires highly sensitive equipment. In the end, it pays to use the finest equipment available, from the antenna down to the receiver including the transmission line. The slight additional cost should be considered an investment in longer system life and optimum performance.
