Maoricardium pseudolima 130mm, Fine ++, a few partial drill holes, still a very beautiful shell. From Mombasa, Kenya. Taken from an old collection.

Amphidromus perversus butoti A dextral and sinistral pair of specimens Beautiful glossy yellow shells with only a small area of green colour near the base of each shell. A rare sub-species endemic to Kangean Island. Donated by Koen Fraussen for club funds.

Bursidae of the World Cossignani 1994. Hardback with 119 pages. Text is in both English and Italian. Covers 64 taxa of Bursidae with detailed descriptions and excellent photos showing both the ventrum and dorsum of each shell. With full details of habitat and distribution for each species.

Top shells and Turban shells Families: Calliostomatidae, Trochidae and Turbinidae. 8 shells, 6 species. Calliostoma formosense, Tegula regina, Bolma tayloriana, Lithopoma tuber x 3, Ninella torquatus and Turbo militarius, Most species in good condition, most with full data. The Bolma tayloriana is worth buying just for the label.

Limpet shells Families: Fissurellidae, Nacellidae and Patellidae. 12 shells, 12 species Fissurellidae: Fissurella barbadensis, Fissurella virescens and Megathura crenulata. Nacellidae: Cellana dorsuosa, Cellana nigrolineata, Cellana ornata and Cellana testudinalis. Patellidae: Cymbula oculus, Patella granatina, Patella granularis, Patella longicosta, and Patella mexicana. Taken from an old collection, most shells have data.

2 Framed shell pictures 2 plates which I believe are from one of the early books by Sowerby, first published in the 19th century. Plate 93 depicts land snails and Plate 70 depicts freshwater and brackish snails, mostly from the families Thiaridae and potamididae. The plates are framed beautifully and would look nice in any shell room.

Lambis truncata sebae (Giant Spider Conch) 2 specimens, one adult and one sub-adult. The condition is poor but this sub-species is absent from most collections. The adult shell is very heavy and unusually it has 8 digits.

Hampshire Micro Microscope with a selection of micro shells An excellent microscope. This is quite an old model, but it is in excellent condition. The focus is very good. There is a built in lamp. Comes with spare bulbs and eyepiece covers. Used for many years by the late Barbara Shepherd, a competent and experienced naturalist. A selection of more than 50 species of micro shells, from a large range of families, is included.

A guide to Worldwide Cowries By Lorenz & Hubert 1993. An excellent and quite comprehensive book, covering all of the species of Cowries known at that time. Hardback with 571 pages and 112 full colour plates. Describes all species, forms and sub-species with their distribution, habitat and Distinguishing features. This book is a must have for any Cowrie collector.

Compendium of Seashells By Abbott & Dance 1982. A full colour guide to more than 4200 of the world’s marine shells. Hardback with 411 pages. A classic book and much sought after. Covers a huge range of families and features many very rare and obscure species which are rarely included in shell books. This book is very highly recommended.

Old collection of shells 101 shells, 37 species Some data is missing. Many of the Bivalves are single valves only. Many shells are in poor condition but there are nice examples of Conus kintoki, Conus virgatus and Haliotis scalaris.

Fasciolariidae and Melongenidae 51 shells, 10 species Fasciolariidae: Fusinus syracusanus, Latirus craticulatus, L. turritus, Peristernia chlorostoma, P. incarnata, P. ustulata, Pleuroploca filamentosa, Tarantinaea lignarius. Melongenidae: Pugilina cochlidium and Volema myristica. All shells collected by the late Barbara Shepherd. Most have full data and operculum.

Pen shells from Oman 5 shells, 2 species 4 Pinna muricata and one Servatrina pectinata. Some difficult to obtain shells in nice condition for the species.

Murex shells from Oman 29 shells, 4 or 5 species Includes several specimens of Hexaplex kusterianus which is quite difficult to obtain. Many of these Murex are in nice condition. Donated by Janet Sawyer for club funds.

Lot no.45

Spiny Murex shells from Oman 22 shells, 2 species 18 specimens of Murex scolopax and 4 specimens of Murex carbonnieri which is an uncommon species. These shells are all beach collected, but some still have very nice spines.

Murex shells of the world By Radwin and D’Attilio 1976. Hardback with 284 pages and 32 colour plates. Covers 390 species of Muricidae. Each species is described in great detail, there are also enlarged drawings of surface sculpture for many species and detailed drawings of the radula.
