Projecting a positive image of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority to the community, our business partners and airport users involves many aspects, including internal and external letters, memos, publications, videos and other presentation materials. In an effort to manage and protect the look, shape and colors of the Authority’s logo, and ultimately our image, please refer to this newly developed Logo Standards Manual. This document sets forth comprehensive policies and procedures designed to provide consistent application of our logo. The manual begins with a description of the Authority’s brand strategy and branding campaign followed by a section describing versions of our logo. The manual defines “unrestricted” and “restricted “ logos. Please note that “restricted” logos require initial contact with our Business Development & Communications Department before proceeding with your project. Electronic files on a CD and camera-ready artwork accompany the manual and should assist you as well. It is important that you refer and adhere to the guidelines set forth in this manual as you and your consultants develop collateral materials in the course of your work. Any questions or requests for assistance should be directed to Business Development & Communications Department, which is focused on maintaining the integrity of the Airport Authority’s branding strategy. Please join me in supporting their efforts.

Sincerely,

Elaine Roberts, A.A.E. President & CEO

P r ot e c t i n g O u r B r a n d Consistent use of logos, names and positioning statements (sometimes also called theme lines or tag lines) helps in establishing a brand. In this guide you will find several variations of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority (CRAA) logo, along with a “roadmap” of how and how not to use these logos. These guidelines MUST be adhered to. The CRAA has gone to great lengths to establish and maintain a consistent brand and image. We need to establish a unified “voice” for our Authority, and this guide will help you and your suppliers understand the correct and appropriate ways to do so. This is much more involved than just how we can and cannot use the logos. We must establish and maintain a consistent look and feel in everything we create for the Authority. This adherence to flawless standards of “visual identity” includes correct logo usage, color usage, font usage, scale, proportion and much more. Maintaining a consistent image with all communication elements will help solidify and strengthen the CRAA brand. If you have any questions about proper identity usage, please contact the Business Development & Communications Department at (614) 239-4027. Electronic artwork for the approved logos is available on the intranet for staff use under the Business Development & Communications Department folder and on the enclosed CDs.

Logo Overvi ews

Logo Overvi ew Summary of the Brand Strategy & Graphics Standards Manual What, exactly, does the logo of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority represent? It is the combination of a sail, signifying a sail from the ship of our city’s namesake Christopher Columbus, overlapped by the tail of an airplane. Symbolically communicated by the logo, these two entities are forever intertwined. The growth of the City of Columbus is forever linked to the growth of the Airport Authority, and vice versa. To protect the symbolism of the logo and the brand identify of the Airport Authority, the following pages were designed to properly explain and document the correct format and style of the logo to be used by CRAA staff in addition to our vendors and consultants. There are three versions of the logo which differ only by the design of the accompanying text. Whenever possible, one of the below 3-D appearing logos should be used:

Second only to the correct color usage, the proper proportion of these logos is the biggest area of concern. The scale of the logo will vary from application to application, but the proportions should never change. Never stretch, skew or distort the logo in any way. The upcoming pages provide the following information for each version of the logo: -

Preferred & minimum size. Official colors. Demonstrations of acceptable & unacceptable backgrounds. Examples of improper logo usage.

Commonly produced items, such as letterhead, business cards and envelops, have been designed with the proper logo usage and included in this book. We recognize that some applications, such as golf balls or ink pens, do not lend themselves to the above logos. This topic is also addressed in the following pages. Should you require assistance, please contact the Business Development & Communications Department at (614) 239-4027. 3

Logo Overvi ew CRAA Logo Horizontal with Airport Names (CA1HN) is the primary descriptive identifier for the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. This logo not only represents the Authority, but also identifies the three airports that the Authority operates. The CRAA Logo Horizontal with Airport Names should never be altered in any way. It must always be reproduced from official digital artwork provided in the back of this manual. The logo has been created in both color and black/white versions.

CRAA Logo Horizontal on 2 Lines (CA2H) is one of two secondary identifiers for the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. The CRAA Logo Horizontal on 2 Lines should not be altered in any way. It must always be reproduced from official digital artwork provided in the back of this manual. The logo has been created in both color and black/white versions.

CRAA Logo Centered on 2 Lines (CACENT) is the second of the secondary identifier options for the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. The CRAA Logo Centered on 2 Lines should not be altered in any way. It must always be reproduced from official digital artwork provided in the back of this manual. The logo has been created in both color and black/white versions.

R e st r i c t e d L o g o s Restricted Logos

U s e On ly Wit h Permission Two Dimensional Logos – Restricted

CRAA has several logos that have been developed for use in special circumstances. These logos are restricted and should not be used without the permission of the Business Development & Communications Department. If your project or vendor requires the use of any of the restricted logos below, please contact the Business Development & Communications Department at (614) 239-4027.

Two Dimensional Logos – Restricted To the left are examples of the two-dimensional CRAA logos in the three formats described in the logo overviews section. These logos have been created for use when the production process does not allow for the reproduction of the threedimensional logo. Examples of this would be: • Frosted Glass • Embroidery • Etched Metal, Concrete, or Wood

Three Dimensional Logo – Restricted To the left is the only restricted three-dimensional CRAA logo. This logo has been created for use when the production process or design does not allow for the use of the approved three-dimensional logos. An example of this would be:

Three Dimensional Logos – Restricted

• Business Card

Whenever possible, the three dimensional versions of the logos must be used. Should you feel your project or vendor need to utilize the twodimensional logo, please contact the Business Development & Communications Department at the above number for permission and access to these logos. 5

1/2x

The CRAA Logo Horizontal with Airport Names is the primary descriptive identifier for CRAA and should never be altered in any way. The elements of the logo are a complete grouping and should not be “pulled” apart or used individually. The textual elements of the logo were customized for CRAA. You should not attempt to typeset the logo yourself. The CRAA Logo Horizontal with Airport Names must always be reproduced from official artwork provided by the Business Development & Communications Department. When placing the logo, be sure to leave the appropriate clear space around it for proper visibility and contrast. Do not “crowd” the logo with other graphic or textual elements. As shown in the example above, “x” equals the height of the sail. Leave at least one half time (1/2x) the height of the sail as clear space on all four sides of the logo. There may be times when maintaining proper clear space is not possible. Please try to follow these guidelines whenever you can. These guidelines are only minimum clear space requirements. More space around the logo is always encouraged. Whenever the Authority’s name appears in print and electronic communications (other than in text), it should appear only as one of the approved logos of the Authority. The Authority’s name should never be used as a design element.

Sizing The scale of the logo will vary from application to application, but the proportions should never change. Never stretch, skew or distort the logo in any way. There is a preferred reproduction size for the logo and a minimum reproduction size for the logo. Do not reproduce the logo below the minimum size. If there is a need to reproduce the logo below the minimum size (e.g., on a golf ball), please contact the Business Development & Communications Department for assistance: (614) 239-4027.

Apparel / Interior Applications

30

A p pa r e l In most cases, the 2-D spot color version of the CRAA logos will be needed for applying the logo to apparel. Although the 2-D spot color versions of the logo are set up as 2 color (Black and PMS 221), you can specify the middle gray section of the sail to be printed using a medium gray thread. Never flip the direction of the sail for any reason!

31

Electronic Artwork

34

U n d e r stan d i n g Col o r s Different uses of the logo may require different printing processes. Whenever sending artwork out to get printed, know exactly which printing process will be used (if you are unsure, contact the printer or the end user and ask what they require). Send the logo format compatible with that particular printing process. Sending the wrong logo could affect the quality of the print job, the cost of the print job, or both. Whenever possible, please try to send electronic art files.

Spot Color Printing Spot color printing is the use of a single ink to print each different solid color. (A green ink to print green, a brown ink to print brown, etc.) The use of PANTONE® Matching System (PMS) inks to match the logo’s colors is preferred where possible. Please use a PANTONE Color Specifier (available at a graphic artist supply store) for precise color matching.

Four Color Process Printing Four color process printing (CMYK Printing) is the method of printing where four colors (Cyan-C, Magenta-M, Yellow-Y, Black-K) are used to print most of the color spectrum. Full-color magazines, brochures and newspapers are printed using CMYK Printing. Although CMYK printing can print most colors, it is limited in its ability to print every color. Some colors can only be achieved by using special-mix inks or PANTONE inks. Please use the appropriate CMYK values when printing with CMYK colors.

RGB RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is the color format used for on-screen or internet usage.

Black and White When printing using only black and white, please send the black and white digital files. Never copy or fax the logo. Copying or faxing severely deteriorates the quality of the artwork. If you need additional assistance please contact the Business Development & Communications Department at (614) 239-4027.
