Sydney Conference 2015 Date

Parramatta Novotel Hotel

Key Topic

Connecting Australia's next great cities How can bikes help transform our next great cities? This year's Bike Futures Sydney Conference is proudly hosted by City of Parramatta one of Australia's next great cities.

Keynote Speakers

Gabe Klein Gabe has always viewed his work as a canvas to create a contribution, and is inspired by ventures that have a triple bottom line benefit, vs. strictly profit focused. He is perhaps best known as the first hire by Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration to run the Chicago Department of Transportation in 2011 which set about baking sustainability and livability into every project that CDOT undertakes. He was also the Director of Transportation at the District of Columbia (Washington D.C) from 2008 to 2010. D.C now has the US's largest bike share program and has led the way in innovative bicycle facilities. He was also a Regional Vice President for car-share company Zipcar and his development of public-private partnerships for the then novel concept saw D.C become the largest car share city in the US by membership and vehicles.

As Australian cities strive to become globally competitive and struggle with managing growth and structural change we are thrilled to bring Gabe to Sydney to reflect on how other major cities have taken the initiative to reposition themselves as a "city of choice" which successfully compete to attract investment, innovation and employees from around the world.

Melbourne Conference 2015 Date

Monday 19th – Wednesday 21st October 2015

Location

Abbotsford Convent, Collingwood

Key Topic

Building support for bike riding - Getting children riding again How can we tackle the big issues facing the health of our communities? How do we build support for bike riding in the face of opposition? How do we get children riding again? Especially riding to school and local destinations.

Keynote Speakers Kyle Wagenschutz - Bikeway/Pedestrian Program Manager, City of Memphis Kyle Wagenschutz was hired in 2010 as the first Bicycle & Pedestrian Program Manager for the City of Memphis, Tennessee. He worked to create the city’s first bicycle master plan and secure outside funding to build more than 150kms miles of new dedicated bike lanes and tracks in just four years. Bike riding in Memphis increased 500% while bike crashes dropped. In 2013, the Association for Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals awarded Kyle with its Young Professional of the Year Award.

Dougal List – Manager, New Zealand Cycling Dougal has been at the Transport Agency for over six years. His background is as an urban planner, programme manager and change leader at the Agency, in local government and in consultancy. Within the Transport Agency his national role is to lead the Agency’s cycling priority across cycling which involves over 50 people across the whole organisation involved in projects, policy and behaviour change.

Launceston Cycle Tourism Conference 2015 Date

Wednesday 11th – Friday 13th November 2015

Location

Launceston Town Hall

Key Topic

Cycle Tourism - Jobs, Diversity, Business and Strong Communities Cycle Tourism's potential contribution to local communities. Cycle Tourism can bring jobs, business diversity and strength to communities struggling with the movement away from traditional industries.

Keynote Speakers Clayton Neil

ex Economic Dev. & Tourism Coordinator, Alpine Shire, NE Vic

Clayton oversaw the development of North East Victoria as a cycling mecca. He is an ex director of the North East Tourism Board. According to the 2014 RACV Tourism Awards: “Victoria's High Country is Australia's premier destination for recreational cycling, road cycling and mountain biking”

Evan Freshwater – Manager, New Zealand Cycle Trail Evan manages the development of 23 Great Rides that span the length of New Zealand. The trails have proved a catalyst for new businesses and are creating jobs and wealth in communities throughout the country. Tourism New Zealand research shows that around 4% of international holiday visitors do some sort of cycling while they are in New Zealand and spend more than other international visitors. Can the same happen in Australia?
