executive summary BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) represents a strong network of European engineering students. It connects over 1500 students in 29 countries. In July 2008 the local BEST group of Brussels will organise the fourteenth edition of the BEST Brussels Summer Course. During two weeks 22 students from all over Europe will be given a more profound view on what metals are and what is possible with them, combined with the enrichment of a multicultural environment. This event is organised in close cooperation with and supported by our Industrial Partners. A number of companies that supported previous editions are given below. Through this brochure we would like to invite your company to participate in this event, and get in touch with more than 1500 international engineering students.

Previous partners

BEST is... … a non-profit and non-political organisation of European students of technology. We have been enabling cooperation, communication and student exchanges with the most important technical faculties and universities throughout Europe since 1989. 76 local BEST groups in almost 30 countries are growing as a well organised, strong, young and progressive students’ network.

main activities Complementary

education

Each of our courses gathers around 25 participants from different countries. They get to know the newest technologies and scientific achievements and bind close friendships. In 2007 BEST organised 73 such courses.

Career

centre

On our virtual career portal, students (over 6000 registered users) can find job offers, seminars, internships... The offers are provided by our international partners.

Thematic

networks

We actively participate in European educational networks (TREE, EuroPACE, EIE-Surveyor…), where we take part in the modeling of future educational programs.

support for students Through many projects and internal education, active BEST members get extra knowledge and experience and are able to improve their soft skills: * how to present your idea in front of a group * how to run an effective meeting * how to carry out large projects * how to justify your point * how managing a team is more than just addressing roles

structure of BEST BEST is a network of Local BEST Groups (LBG), present and active in every corner of Europe. Each of them organizes at least once every two years an academic course to provide European students of technology supplementary education in a broad range of subjects and a unique European experience. Although every LBG is unique, the members are very alike in motivation, ambition and creativity.

LBG Brussels The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is a part of the BEST network since 1994. We are an open organisation and every member of BEST Brussels works on a voluntary base. The Local BEST Group is fully run by engineering and science students and five of them constitute the Board: President, Secretary, Treasurer, Corporate Relations Responsible and Marketing and Recruitment Responsible. Aside from them there are also members responsible for the organisation of events (e.g. Summer Course and Cultural Exchange).

the participants This two week intermediate course will be followed by 22 students from metallurgy and materials science faculties selected from hundreds of applicants from 76 universities in the BEST Network. We provide and pay the lodging, meals and social activities. These social activities will give the European students a taste of the Belgian and Brussels culture and it also includes a weekend in a youth hostel somewhere in Belgium. Besides these participants, every engineering student of the VUB is welcome to attend this course and, if certain criteria are met, will have the possibility to receive ECTS-credits for it. At the end of the course all the participants will be evaluated by means of an exam.

our offer Company

presentation to the participants:

Joining our Summer Course, you will have the chance to present your company in front of the Summer Course participants, to talk about career opportunities and to promote special programs. This can be followed by a reception where you can get informal contact with the students.

Workshop

with small group:

It is possible for our partners to organise and lead a workshop to let the students understand your working environment and working methods better. The workshop usually consists of case studies, simulations or training.

Company

visit:

A partnership can also include a visit to your company to warm the participants up for a future job in a good atmosphere.

Promotion

on all summer course materials:

As official partner of the course, your company will be promoted on every material of the Brussels Summer Course 08: logos and items in the welcome package to participants, your banner in the session room and presence on the website used in all universities for promotion of the event. Of course we are open for your offers too.

cooperation We strongly believe that a cooperation between your company and BEST will be useful for both parties. Similar corporate relations in the past, both in the academic and the economic field, have resulted in employment of our members.
