Academic Affairs: 53 majors; 14 pre-professional programs; multiple graduate programs in 22 departments; Office of Graduate and Continuing Education; Registrar; International Programs Office; Student Success Center; Information Technology Services; Mikkelsen Library; Center for Western Studies; Performing and Visual Arts; Assessment, Accreditation, and Institutional Research. $20 million budget including a $4.2 million grant portfolio.

Responsibilities/Selected Accomplishments: Serve as major advisor to the President and the Board of Trustees in the academic area of the University. • Played a key role in developing the vision and content for the new strategic plan, Augustana Horizons 2019, establishing strategies for increased enrollment, innovative programming, updated technologies, alternative funding sources, new partnerships, effective branding, and a revised master plan. Leading implementation of academic components of the plan. Engage in development, marketing, and community relations in collaboration with the Vice President for Advancement and the President. • Cultivated partnership with the Sanford Health Imagenetics Initiative (endowed at $125 million by T. D. Sanford) to fund a Masters’ Degree in Genetic Counseling and other academic programs. • Developed comprehensive campaign strategic plan focusing on academic programs and facilities, faculty research and professional development and student scholarships. • Serve as a mayoral appointee to the Executive Board of Washington Pavilion Management, Inc., the Sioux Empire United Way 2016 Campaign Cabinet; the Education and Workforce Development Committee of the Chamber of Commerce; and the Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary. Serve on the President’s Cabinet and work closely with all other administrative divisions. • Collaborate with the VP for Finance & Administration on master planning and building projects including a new $35 million science facility and planning for a student wellness center.

Collaborate with VP for Enrollment on revising financial aid and scholarship allocation, developing university access and pipeline programs, and identifying new undergraduate and graduate audiences. • Collaborate with Athletic Director on NCAA compliance and student-athlete success initiatives. Lead innovation and change initiatives. • Led Think Tank initiative that reimagined the organization and description of our undergraduate programs, examined new technologies and pedagogical strategies, and reviewed community resources for experiential and applied learning. Implementing the Think Tank recommendations this fall including a collaborative initiative with Marketing and Admissions to revise website and written materials to reach new market audiences. • Created an integrated Student Success Center model focusing on academic success, advising, career development and retention; led design task force; hired executive director. • Facilitated the revision of the liberal arts core curriculum, including procurement of grant funding for the development of a multi-disciplinary, integrated First Year Experience. • Established new Office of Graduate and Continuing Education, grew enrollment in current graduate programs, and am facilitating the development of innovative new graduate and continuing education programs and partnerships. Play leadership role in national professional organizations. • Regularly present and serve on committees for the Council of Independent Colleges, American Association of Colleges and Universities, and the American Conference of Academic Deans including leading sessions on finance and fund-raising for the CIC Workshop for Department and Division Chairs and the New CAO’s Institute. •

Responsibilities/Selected Accomplishments: • Began with four departments and two centers; four years later was leading seven undergraduate departments and three graduate programs, five centers and institutes, and serving as the Dean for Community Engagement. Launched three graduate programs and developed interdisciplinary undergraduate programs in sustainability and international studies. Restructured hiring process and increased support for faculty development. • Participated in strategic planning at the college level including the President’s Generative Thinking Team, the Diversity Strategic Planning Task Force and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education Steering Committee. • Served on the Harrisburg School Foundation Board of Directors (Fund-raising Committee), the United Way Community Impact Committee, the YWCA Advocacy Committee, and the President’s Advisory Council of the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg. • Served as the college’s Government Relations Liaison. Worked with professional advocacy firm resulting in a $500,000 state grant for facility development. • Administered $1.5 million Department of Justice grant focusing on capacity-building for mentoring organizations. Partnered with 44 mentoring organizations and the Mayor’s Office. • Served on the Special Academic Program Commission of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities; provided oversight for twelve off campus programs serving over 100 institutions. • Appointed to the State Board; Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Council on Education (PAACE); Office of Women in Higher Education.

Calvin College: A comprehensive Christian liberal arts college with professional programs. Enrollment: 3850 undergraduate students; 150 graduate students. NCAA Division III. Teacher Education Program: Undergraduate teacher preparation program of 750 students and a graduate education program of 150 students.

Responsibilities/Selected accomplishments: • Earned the rank of full professor based on scholarship, teaching, advising, and service. • Facilitated the procurement of over $1.5 million in federal and state grant funding for research, professional development and community engagement, including grants from the U.S. Department of Education and the National Science Foundation. • Worked with the president to secure funding for and participated in design and implementation of The Van Lunen Center for Executive Management in Christian Schools (endowed at $2 million). • Led a successful accreditation review which included designing an assessment system that was cited as an exemplar by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. • Participated in the leadership team of the Pathways to Possibilities college access/success program funded by the Ford and Kellogg Foundations and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. • Served as a charter member of the Calvin Anti-Racism Team and developed a comprehensive diversity strategic plan. • Invited to be a Visiting Lecturer by the Centre for Faith and Scholarship and the Faculty of Educational Sciences at North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
