Luanda Access Specification

Draught is calculated on high tide. Water density : 1.025 / Discharging on direct delivery basis / No storage facilities / ISPS : Level 1 / Weather : Rainy season : November to April. / State owned stevedoring & Private stevedoring. / Port position : 08.48S - 13.15E / Port limits : For a vessel to be considered as "arrived vessel", she should be anchored in the bay past a line drawn between the Ilha lighthouse and across the bay to Fort San Pedro. Pilotage : Pilots are provided by “EPIBAL”. 72 / 48 / 24 / 12 hours notices of arrival are to be addressed to the Vessel Agents, plus message of arrival at least 6 hours prior arrival must be received during normal office hours (07.00 - 17.00 hrs). Luanda Pilot standing-by on VHF channel 08 and 16. Pilot launch goes out from the port. Pilotage is not required for anchoring in the bay. Pilotage is compulsory for berthing / unberthing movements for all vessels a GRT > 250 tons. Anchorage : Luanda Bay offers safe , sheltered anchorage at all times of the year. Good holding ground sand/mud . No draft restrictions. Towage : Two 2,200 HP tugs are available and operated by “EPINOSUL”. Use of tugs is compulsory for berthing and unberthing. Berthing : Ships taken in strict rotation of arrival for berthing (“first come, first served”), pilot usually boards at the entrance of the bay, around position 08 degrees 44.8’ South and 013 degrees 16.8’ East Maximum draft allowed for berthing 10.0 m, usually no congestion. Berthing can only take place during daylight hours, from 06.00 hrs to around 20.00 hrs, except supply/crew boats (at Sonils Base) and passengers ships. Passenger vessels, ferry boats, reefer vessels and humanitarian aid are granted priority berthing.

This infomation will be communicated directly to all the lifters with the povisionary lifting program (issued every 15th of each month) Channel Pululu with 12 lighted buoys and capacity for major vessels, no tugs or pilot available / Draugth is calculated at low water Maxi draught is 7.8 m but channel to be dredged twice a year to maintain this level / Lifting capacity up to 200 tons Water density : 1.008/1.012 / ISPS : Level 1 / Weather conditions with moderate winds The commercial quay is under of the Port of Soyo / Private Stevedoring.
