A bookseller by the name of Alexander Fox leaves the United States after a personal tragedy to begin a new life abroad. The tiny country in which he finds himself – Andorra – is an idyllic escape, offering Alexander the chance to reinvent himself. Settling into its grand (and only) hotel, he quickly becomes entangled with the ever-present locals. But the mystery of his origin deepens. An Australian couple take an unsettling interest in the attractive newcomer, and Andorra’s matriarch seems to recall him from long ago. When a woman’s body is found almost immediately upon his arrival, the local lieutenant becomes strangely convinced that Alexander is responsible. He soon finds himself in a crisis of conscience and identity, and in a foreign country that he may not be able to escape from.

Adapted from Willy Vlautin’s acclaimed novel Lean On Pete. Andrew Haigh said “Willy’s book is unsentimental, honest, and deeply affecting. I’ve thought about Charley Thompson every day since I first read the book four years ago. I’m delighted to bring this adaptation to screen.” The book was a much sought after property with it’s epic, and emotionally powerful story.

Charley Thompson is fifteen years old. He wants a home, food on the table and a high school he can attend for more than part of the year. As the son of a single father working in warehouses across the Pacific Northwest stability is hard to find. Hoping for a new start they move to Portland where Charley takes a summer job, and befriends the failing racehorse Lean on Pete. 45 Years’ Academy Award nomination for Best Actress cemented Haigh’s reputation as one of the most exciting and singular directors to have emerged from the UK in recent years.

She has complete confidence that she will succeed, as she has never been taught otherwise. After months of training her eagle with her father, Aispolpan is ready to test her abilities and enters the renowned Golden Eagle Festival to face off against 70 of the greatest Kazakh eagle hunters in Mongolia. “Mifune had something rare today—dignity.” Steven Spielberg

“Mifune’s speed in expressing himself was something not found in Japanese actors then. I have never fallen in love with an actor, but Mifune won my heart.” Akira Kurosawa

Toshiro Mifune (1920-1997) was the greatest actor from the Golden Age of Japanese Cinema and appeared in 170 films. His collaborations with Akira Kurosawa earned him twice the Best actor Prize at Venice Festival for YOJIMBO (1961) and RED BEARD (1965). Just as John Ford and John Wayne elevated the American Western genre into breathtaking sagas exploring the human side of America’s violent expansion, Kurosawa and Mifune transformed the chanbara film, the period sword fighting movie, into bold narratives exploring individuality versus power and repression in Japanese society. Woven together with archival footages and interviews the film tells Mifune’s life and films experience as well as his pivotal role in the evolution of the samurai film. Simon is a sales representative about fifty. When Mickey, his cop friend, is being shot, he leaves everything to find the murderers. Two years before, Marx, an old gambler, met Frederic, a young man that does not look very smart and started to follow him everywhere (as a puppy) and changed his name to Johnny to please Marx. Of course, Simon’s story is related with Marx and Johnny’s one. But the thriller is only a pretext for a psychological description of the three main characters.
