AESTHETIC TREATMENTS & A LITTLE INFO ABOUT MYSELF I have been a practicing GP for 15 years, and developed a keen interest in aesthetic medicine about 4 years ago. It’s truly a fascinating area of medicine with advances in surgical and non-surgical techniques to turn back the clock, enabling men and women to look and feel better. There are numerous products and techniques on offer to help you achieve the look you want, and I offer a wide selection of treatments to suit all budgets and aspirations. I have learnt these techniques from attending professional courses taught by consultant plastic surgeons and industry leaders, as well as training from the companies behind the products. I firmly believe with the right technique and safe approach to aesthetic treatments, it is possible for all to look the best we can be regardless of our age. It’s not vanity, it is taking pride in our appearance. Additionally when we look better, we naturally feel better.

FURTHER INFORMATION ON TREATMENTS Botulinum toxin injections – commonly known as Botox – has been around for many years, initially developed for medical purposes. Botulinum toxin is now used by millions to soften wrinkle lines, producing a more youthful appearance. The product is injected with fine needles in specific points on the face and is virtually pain free. The effects generally lasts between 8-12 weeks. The brand I use is Bocouture which is manufactured by a German company Merz. Costs currently discounted to £200 from normal price. £270 for three areas (brows, forehead and crow’s feet). Top up within 2 weeks if needed is £50. 1

Hyperhidrosis – excessive sweating in underarms can be effectively treated by injecting the botulinum toxin under the skin surface where the sweat glands are present. The skin in the underarm is firstly applied with a numbing cream for 30 minutes before the injections take place. Small droplets of the product is injected where the sweat glands are located and this switches them off leaving sweat-less skin. Interestingly. the effects generally lasts much longer than for wrinkle reduction and most clients only requite one treatment every six months. Costs are £400 for both underarm

Dermal fillers – are the second most common aesthetic treatments. There are many brands of dermal fillers but they all contain hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a naturally occurring sugar molecule in all living organisms. The HA when injected under the skin draws in water from surroundings and plumping up the skin – filling out lines and contouring the face. The same product is also used to refine and enhance the lips and cheeks. Depending on the filler used, effects lasts between 4-18 months.

Cheek enhancement with volumising dermal fillers.- having higher cheek bones transforms the face. Costs of fillers depends on type used and amounts required. Prices start from £280 for 1ml (for restylane/juvderm). Subsequent mls of filler discounted on same sitting. Volift/Volbella/Voluma £350 per ml.

PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) THERAPY. DRACULA THERAPY This therapy was made famous when Kim Kadashian revealed she was having this done to enhance her youthfulness. It involves taking a sample of your own blood and spinning this in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. The plasma contain platelet cells as well as nutrients and growth factors which when injected into the skin, nourishes the skin cells to rejuvenate. This type of therapy has been around for many years though it is not commonly known. Athletes after sports injuries have the same treatment injected in traumatised joints to speed recovery. PRP is also being used to treat scars, stretches marks and even reversal of early hair loss.

5

PRP therapy is only available at my medical centre in Hornchurch, Essex and costs £400 per session. The plasma is injected with tiny needles under the skin to stimulate rejuvenation of skin. Three treatments over three months is recommended for best results.

Dermaroller/micro-needling is a similar technique whereby the skin is encouraged to produce collagen by multiple needling of the skin with sterile tiny needles. The skin is numbed beforehand with an anaesthetic cream and the needling is done with a roller or in my practice a microneedling device. The result of the treatment is the skin will be firmer with more collagen. Stretch marks, fine wrinkles and open pores are diminished. For best results three treatments are recommended over 6-9 weeks. Costs £250.

Dermaroller can be used to treat acne scarring, reducing pore sizes as well as stretchmarks, hair loss and tightening the skin. 6

SCULPTRA –LIQUID FACELIFT Sculptra is an alternative to dermal filler. The product was initially developed in the 1990s to treat lost volume in the face of patients with chronic diseases who have lost a lot of weight around the face leaving a gaunt look. The active ingredient is Poly-L Lactic acid which is the key ingredient in soluble stitches. When injected under the skin, the product stimulates the body to produce collagen over a 4-6 months period leading to filling out of deep wrinkles and volumisation of the face. Effects lasts two years at which time it can be repeated. You can read more about Scupltra my article entitled ‘Art of looking younger’ on my website (http://botox.hornchurchhealthcare.co.uk). Sculptra is particularly suited to clients who want a subtle and gradual face lift without the give way signs of having had work done. It is very discreet and most clients would appear younger and fresher with a completely natural appearance. Costs are per treatment vial of £350 per vial – most will require between 4-6 vials to complete the treatment over three sittings.

ELLANSE – TOUCH OF YOUTH Ellasne is a similar treatment to Sculptra – in the sense it stimulates the body to produce its own collagen after injection. Unlike Sculptra which takes up to 6 months to fully develop the final results, Ellanse will give results almost instantly as it contains a second component of which give immediate volumisation whilst waiting for the collagen to be produced by the body. Results lasts 2 years depending on the Ellanse product used which ranges from 1-4 years. Costs are £400 per ml.

SKIN PEELS Acid skin peels as a form of beauty treatment has been around for 1000s of years. Cleopatra was known to bathe in milk to improve her skin texture and it is the lactic acid in milk which did the trick! The outer layer of skin consists of many layers of dead and dried up skin in the stratum corneum. When this layer is removed by medical grade acid the skin left behind is smooth and youthful. There are many different types of skin peels utilising different types of acid. When done in a controlled and safe manner, results can be spectacular. Common skin complaints which can be rectified with skin peels include uneven pigmentation, fine wrinkles, age spots, acne, acne scarring, and enlarged pores. For best results, a series of peels is usually recommended – costs from £80-100 per peel.

The type of peel used will depend on your skin type, problem areas, down time acceptable and outcomes sought.

8

1. Glycolic peels – superficial peel – giving you a polished and smooth complexion. Little down time and minimal peeling 2. Jessner peels medium depth peel – good for oily, prone to break outs, open pores, correcting uneven pigmentation 3. TCA – medium depth peel- acne scarring, uneven pigmentation, fine line – some down time involved.

I also offer obagi medical peels from US company obagi inc. Obagi radiance – pre party peels and Obagi Blue peel

PLEXR SOFT SURGERY – SKIN TIGHTENING

This treatment is currently only available in a handful of clinics in England – and Hornchurch healthcare is proud to be one of them. The machine can tighten loose skin around the eyes, erase wrinkles and remove skin lesions without cutting the skin therefore avoiding scarring. It can even be used to treat active acne spots and xanthelasma (cholesterol deposits). After application of a numbing cream for 20 minutes – the affected area is treated with a series of application of the plexr device. The treatment works by vaporizing the top layer of the wrinkle/loose skin fold which then tightens the skin. The procedure is well tolerated and a dry scab is formed on the treated area which falls off after several days. Treatment costs £450/session. Usually only one session is needed though some clients will need a second sitting if there is excessive sagging. Second session if required discounted to £350.
