Before connecting Activboard o

Make sure you have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed on your computer o

Right-Click on “My Computer” Icon (on your Desktop, or Start Menu)

o

Select Properties

o

Install Activdriver 4 and Activstudio software

o

When connecting to the Activboard via Bluetooth it is necessary to disconnect Activboard cable from computer. If using USB cable, then disconnect cable from computer and from board. If using Serial cable, only disconnect cable from computer.

Restart the computer

Connecting your Activboard 1. Plug in your Windows XP compatible Bluetooth Adapter o

Windows will search internally for drivers suitable for your device o

NOTE: Do not install manufacturer supplied software

o

We recommend you do not use a Bluetooth adapter that requires a driver be installed

2. When Bluetooth adapter has finished installing, Open “Bluetooth Devices”, from your “Control Panel”

3. At this stage you should be presented with the ‘Bluetooth Devices’ window below. Click on the ‘Add’ button

4. You will now be presented with the dialog box below. Place a place a ‘check mark’ in the small box next to ‘My device is setup and ready to be found’ and click ‘Next’

5. A flashlight will appear searching for devices, then a list of devices will be displayed

6. Select the ‘proACTIV’ device, or the name that you have given to your Activboard. Then click ‘Next’.

7. Select ‘Use the passkey found in documentation’ and enter ‘0000’ as the passkey, then click ‘Next’

8. Your COM Ports will be added. Please make a note of them with ‘outgoing and incoming’ as the description

9. Click ‘Finish’ 10. Click ‘OK’ (Bluetooth Devices window)

11.Right-Click the Activcontrol icon (on system tray, next to time)

12.Select ‘Settings’

13.Use the drop down list and select the outgoing COM Port number (noted earlier. (If you cannot remember the outgoing COM port please consult the ‘Troubleshooting Section’). Do Not click ‘Connect’, yet.

14.Press and hold the right-click button on your ActivPen, then hover over the light, in the upper left hand corner of the board (hold pen very close to light, but don’t touch it). The board light should start flashing blue

(Light must turn from ‘solid white’ to ‘flashing blue’)

15. Return to the computer and click ‘Connect’ (button on your Activcontrol\Settings… window)

When the board successfully connects, the status, on the Settings window (under Serial heading), will change from ‘Not Connected’ to ‘Connected to COM_’

The ‘light on the Activboard’ will stop flashing and remain ‘solid blue’ Your Bluetooth Activboard should now be interactive!!

Disconnecting from Activboard & Removing Device 1. Right-Click on the Activcontrol icon (in the system tray, next time)

2. Select ‘Settings’

3. Click on ‘Disconnect’

4. Click ‘Exit’

5. Open “Bluetooth Devices”, from your “Control Panel” Win Classic View: Start Menu\Control Panel\Bluetooth Devices:

6. Select the ‘Activboard’ device, and click ‘Remove’

7. Click ‘OK’, after removal is completed

Renaming Your Bluetooth Activboard By default, when searching for Bluetooth devices, your Bluetooth capable Activboard will appear as “proACTIV”. It is possible to change this to the naming convention of your choice. Requirements for renaming your Activboard 1. Activstudio 2.5x PE (or higher) installed on your computer. 2. Bluetooth capable Activboard. (Bluetooth boards have the Bluetooth emblem in the upper right hand corner of the board) 3. Computer connected to the Activboard, via USB or Serial. Naming your Activboard 1. Connect to your Activboard to your computer via USB or Serial. 2. Recycle the Power to the Activboard (Reboot Activboard: disconnect board from power source, wait 7 seconds, then re-connect). 3. Ensure that your computer recognizes the connection to your board (There should not be a Red X on the Activcontrol icon in the system tray. Right-Clicking the Activcontrol icon and selecting about should display windows stating board connection).

4. Launch Activstudio PE. 5. When the Toolbox appears, Left-click on the Main Menu (The Promethean Man) and select “Name Bluetooth Board”

6. You will be presented with a field in which to type the new name. Type the name and Click ‘OK’.

7. Close ACTIVstudio. 8. Disconnect Activboard cable (USB, Serial) from computer. 9. Recycle the Power to the Activboard (Reboot Activboard: disconnect board from power source, wait 7 seconds, then re-connect). 10.Reboot computer.

The next time you attempt to discover your Bluetooth board the new name should appear as one of the discovered devices.

Troubleshooting Not Connected status If you get a ‘Not Connected’ status, after trying to connect (via Activcontrol\Settings window)…

…perform the following steps: 1. Open “Bluetooth Devices”, from your “Control Panel” Win Classic View: Start Menu\Control Panel\Bluetooth Devices:

2. Select ‘Devices’ tab, select your Activboard, Click ‘Remove’. After removal process is complete, then Click ‘OK’

3. Re-Open ‘Bluetooth Devices’, select ‘COM Ports’ tab and, if listed, ‘Remove the Outgoing and Incoming COM ports’ used by your Activboard.

Æ 4. Restart the computer, recycle the power on the Activboard (Reboot) and return to step “2” of the Setup\Connecting section.

Outgoing\Incoming COM Ports If you do not recall what your Activboard COM Ports are, then follow the steps below: 1. Open “Bluetooth Devices”, from your “Control Panel” Win Classic View: Start Menu\Control Panel\Bluetooth Devices:

2. Select the ‘COM Ports’ tab. Incoming and Outgoing COM Ports for you Activboard should now be displayed.
