Windows XP wireless network setup This document describes how to setup an Internet connection through wireless network using an 802.11b compatible wireless network card. This document assumes that the reader has a fair understanding of Windows XP operation and that the reader has a default or classical Windows XP setup with a properly installed wireless network card.

1. Click on the Start button and select Control

2. From the Control Panel select Network and Internet Connections.

3. From the Network and Internet Connections window click the Network Connections icon.

4. Right click on your wireless network connection and select properties.

In Wireless Network Connection Properties window, click General tab. Highlight the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) option by a single click but do not uncheck the box. After highlighting, click properties button.

6. Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) window will pop. Click “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically”. When you click make sure that circles are filled as in the picture below. After that click OK and it will take you back to previous window.

7. In Wireless Network Connection Properties window, click on the Wireless Networks tab to configure your wireless card.

8. Click the Wireless Networks tab at the top of the Wireless Network Connections window. Click the Add button.

9. Type YCLWAN (Upper case) in the Network Name (SSID): box. It is important to you type it correctly, because it is case-sensitive. Depending on your card, you may or may not see the Association and Authentication tabs at the top of the window. Make sure that Network Authentication is open and Data encryption option is disabled. Click the OK button

10. You should now see the YCLWAN network listed in the Networks window. Click the OK button.

11. You should see a dialog box lower right corner of the screen.

12. In the Network Connections windows, you should see the wireless connection. If it is enabled, you should be connected and ready to go.
