ABOUT THIS MANUAL The ISTE 2016 Conference Brand Standards have been created to guide the development of communication and marketing pieces for the ISTE 2016 Conference & Expo. The standards outline how to establish brand continuity through the proper use of the logo, color, typography, key phrases, iconography and photography style. LOGO

2

Logo Our logo is one of our most valuable assets, one that is instantly recognized and trusted around the world. Three official versions have been created for ISTE 2016, all in full-color (shown) as well as black and white (reverse). When using a ISTE 2016 logo in a digital setting, please link the mark to isteconference.org.

No dates

Year only

The first choice for logo formats in all applications.

When the conference dates are listed elsewhere.

For use in smaller spaces, when location and dates are listed elsewhere.

Logo rationale Our goal with the ISTE 2016 logo is to play up our key messages around connectedness and how the ISTE Conference is the ultimate venue for collaborating with like-minded individuals, finding your tribe and expanding your professional network on a global scale. The tilted sphere is an evolution of our ISTE “earth swirls” and helps to convey movement and transformation as one passes through ISTE and leverages our channels as a springboard for reaching their goals. We see this mark as a natural next phase in the use of the educator icon as a cornerstone for our visual brand.

LOGO GUIDELINES

3

Logo usage guidelines To ensure our logo always looks its best, there are a few simple rules to follow.

Encroachment

x

x

x

x

Use the guide, shown right, for required white space surrounding the logo.

Integrity Always use the logo in its entirety. Do not separate any elements from the design unless they are previously provided as standalone graphic elements (see the Iconography section of this document).

Size Follow these minimum width requirements for proper sizing. • Print: 1.5” wide at 300 dpi • Digital: 100px wide at 72 dpi

Proportions Never stretch, elongate or distort the logo in any way.

Color The logo is available in three-color PMS (539, 383, 124) and CMYK process. Never change the colors in the logo. The logo was designed to appear on a white background whenever possible. If it must be placed on a colored background, use either the all-black or all-white versions. Adhere to encroachment standards when using the logo on a block of color to ensure there is proper white space surrounding the logo. Please use the all-black version of the logo in grayscale printing environments.

Incorrect proportions and color usage

white space allowance = 1/2 cap height

COLOR PALETTE

Colors The ISTE 2016 color palette features the ISTE Blue, Green and Yellow swatches. Dark grey is used for body copy and rule lines. The remaining colors from the ISTE color palette can be used sparingly in circumstances where an alternate color is warranted (i.e., red text for a warning, etc.).

ICONOGRAPHY

5

Color block headers These high-impact headers are effective at drawing the reader’s eye and adding some drama and visual hierarchy to the overall layout. They should be used sparingly — i.e., once per spread vs. for every header on the page — so there aren’t competing elements. They can be used in positive form, rising out of the top of a color block; or in reverse, bleeding out of a color block or photo, onto a white background (see examples, right). In either case, Avenir Next LT Pro Bold Condensed is used in all caps, and the very bottom of the letterforms are what bleed out of or onto a contrasting block of color.

Educator icons The ISTE Educator Icon is a symbol representing humanity with our brand design. The icon is representative of educators with any title and from any background. Its exclamation point shape helps to convey excitement and innovation.

Single icon The icon should always be shown in the ISTE 2016 color palette or in black or white when in reverse. The icon should always be used in a way that feels vibrant and positive.

ISTE 2016 icon trio This year’s conference logo features a grouping of three ISTE Educator Icons, which can be used as a standalone graphic element. The positioning of the icons and the colors in which they appear are fixed: There is an all-black version and two reverse versions — one that is all white and one that is intended for use on a yellow background, with only the yellow Educator Icon in reverse (see examples, right).

ICONOGRAPHY ISTE 2016 Sphere As explained in the logo rationale, the tilted sphere in the ISTE 2016 logo is an evolution of our “earth swirls” and helps to convey movement and transformation as one passes through ISTE and leverages our channels as a springboard for reaching their goals. A solid-fill version of the sphere has been developed in each of the ISTE 2016 colors (including white) — primarily for the function of a uniquely shaped background on which to place graphics or text. More than one sphere could be used in combination to give a layered effect. The white version could be used over a photo or in combination with another color to give the effect of an outline (see examples, right).

Graphic images The graphic images shown right can be used in print and digital collateral as well as onsite signage. • The graphics can be shown reversed out of the ISTE 2016 color palette or on white in the ISTE 2016 color palette. • The graphics can be used individually or in a group, as line art or as silhouettes. • These graphics can be used in place of photography, but should not be used with photography to keep from cluttering the design.

Denver imagery Approved Denver photography may be used in certain applications, the primary image being the Denver skyline (shown, right).

PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE Photography style For ISTE 2016, preference should be given to high-impact imagery: photos that have a clear focal point with minimal distracting elements. As per ISTE photography style, any photos chosen to support collateral for the conference should have an editorial feel that communicates engagement and energy while still feeling professional and sophisticated. Avoid the use of images that feel overly “staged” or that lack a focal point. Photos selected should work to enhance the written message of each communication piece.

Event photography Event photos from past ISTE conferences are the first choice for meeting photography needs. Visit the ISTE 2015 Flickr album to review or download high-resolution images: bit.ly/ISTE2015flickr Note: It is recommended that we blur attendee names from name badges. This is critical for any photos of minors. Please contact ISTE Marketing for help with photo selection if needed.

Stock photography Stock photography can be used when event imagery needed to support the communication is not available. Stock images should adhere to the same standards as ISTE 2016 photography style, described above.

Resolution To ensure imagery looks its best at all times, make sure all photos are used at the correct resolution. • Print: 300 dpi • Digital: 72 dpi

Treatment and color All photos should be presented in full color. Photos may be cropped as needed. Photos may also be combined into a grid, as shown below.

8

SPONSORS Sponsors ISTE 2016 sponsors are an invaluable part of our success. The support and funding they provide allow us to create the best conference and expo experience possible. To effectively communicate their sponsorship, it is important that their logos are included in certain print and digital materials. These locations are established as part of the current-year contract.

ISTE Year-Round Mission Sponsor and Conference Sponsor logos The logos, shown right, are given to sponsors for use in their materials, along with logo usage guidelines to ensure the marks are used consistently and according to brand standards. Notes: • The logos are only available in full color, as shown, and are intended to go on a white background unless otherwise approved by ISTE. Contact ISTE Senior Graphic Designer Brianne Beigh ([email protected]) for questions. • If the ISTE Year-Round Mission Sponsor and Conference Sponsor logos will be used side-by-side, the ISTE Year-Round Mission Sponsor logo should be 25% larger than the ISTE Conference Sponsor logos to emphasize hierarchy and the level of support that those sponsors provide. • When referring to the ISTE Year-Round Mission Sponsor in text, please style it as follows: “ISTE Year-Round Mission Sponsor” or “year-round mission sponsor” — When preceded by “ISTE,” the sponsor title should be in title case; otherwise it should all be in sentence case.
