London uses a slip knot and just 3 stitches in her designs – a chain stitch, a slip stitch and a single crochet stitch. Watch our how-to videos at LionBrand.com/londonkaye for how to make a slip knot and how to do each of the 3 stitches. Remember that London’s style is big loose stitches! Don’t pull your yarn tightly or try for uniform, even stitches. Our diagrams show orderly stitches. Use the diagrams to plot your course, but we encourage you to go your own way and place your stitches as you like. Our patterns are meant to inspire you to embrace your creative spirit!

HERE’S HOW

Step 1 With A, make a slip knot onto hook. Chain 2.

Step 2 Chain 1, turn, make 2 sc in the sc you made in Step 1.

Make 1 single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook.

Step 3 Chain 1, turn, make 2 sc in the first sc, make 1 sc in the next sc – you’ll have 3 sc.

Terms sc = single crochet turn = turn your piece around so that the side that was facing you is now facing away from you.

Step 4 Chain 1, turn, make 1 sc in each of the 3 sc.

Step 5 Chain 1, turn, make 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, make 2 sc in the last sc – you’ll have 4 sc.

Step 6 Chain 1, turn, make 1 sc in each sc across.

Step 7 Chain 1, turn, make 2 sc in first sc, make 1 sc in each sc across – you’ll have 5 sc.

Step 8 Chain 1, turn, make 1 sc in each sc across.

Step 9 Chain 1, turn, make 1 sc in each sc to last sc, make 2 sc in last sc – you’ll have 6 sc. Fasten off A.

Join B with a slip stitch in top of the last sc you worked in Step 9. Step 10 Repeat Steps 6-9 for 3 more times then repeat Step 6 once more, changing yarn color whenever you like – at the end of Step 10 you will have 12 sc. Continue to change yarn color to any color you like as you finish working the Heart. To change yarn color, fasten off the old color, then join the new color with a slip stitch.

Step 11 Chain 1, turn, make 2 sc in the first sc, make 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, chain 1, slip stitch in next sc, chain 1, make 1 sc in each of last 6 sc – you’ll have 12 sc.

First Lobe

Step 12 Chain 1, turn, make 1 sc in each of first 6 sc.

Step 13 Chain 1, turn, make 1 sc in the same 6 sc. Repeat Step 13 once more.

Step 14 Chain 1, turn, skip the first sc, make 1 sc in each of next 5 sc.

Step 15 Chain 1, turn, make 1 sc in each sc across.

Step 16 Repeat Steps 14 and 15 – you’ll have 4 sc.

Step 17 Repeat Step 14 – you’ll have 3 sc. Fasten off.

Second Lobe Join any yarn color with a slip stitch in first sc of last row of Step 11.

Step 18 Chain 1, make 1 sc in each of first 6 sc.

Step 19 Repeat Steps 13-17. Fasten off.

Step 20 Join any yarn color with a slip stitch on side of Heart. Chain 1, make sc stitches evenly spaced around outside edge of Heart, slip stitch in first sc to join. Fasten off.

Step 21 Join any yarn color with a slip stitch on one side of Heart about 1 1/2 in. (4 cm) above point of Heart. Slip stitch in each of next 3 sc, then make 1 sc in each sc along side edge of Heart to top of lobe on same side.

Step 22 Chain 1, turn, skip the first sc, make 1 sc in each sc to last 8 sc of Step 21, slip stitch in next sc.

Step 23 Chain 1, turn, slip stitch in each of the first 4 sc, then make 1 sc in each sc to last sc, slip stitch in last sc. Fasten off, but don’t cut your yarn.

Step 24 Using the hook or your fingers, *pull the yarn strand through to the front of your piece, then wrap the yarn strand over the edge to the back of your piece; repeat from * along the edge. When you reach the lower tip of the heart, trim the end of the yarn and glue to back of piece.

Step 25 Join yarn color of your choice with a slip stitch in second side of Heart opposite beginning of Step 21, slip stitch in each of next 3 sc, sc in each sc along side edge to top of lobe on same side.

Step 26 Repeat Steps 22- 24 along second side edge. Fasten off.

Shape Top

Step 27 Using the hook of fingers and yarn color of your choice, beginning in upper right corner of heart, *pull the yarn strand through to the front of your piece, then wrap the yarn strand over the edge to the back of your piece; repeat from * along the top edge to upper left corner of heart. Trim the end of the yarn and glue to back of piece. Fasten off. Glue yarn tails to the back of Heart.
