Polar Bear's Body Polar bears are the largest bears in the bear family. When the male family stands up it is 10 feet tall. Males weigh up to 660-1,500 pounds. Females aren't that tall. Females weigh up to 330-770 pounds. Polar bears have small heads. Their eyes are very close together. Their eyes are faced forward. That gives them good vision. Polar bears have small ears. Their small size means that the ears lose their heat and thats really important. Polar bears have 42 teeth. They use their teeth to chew food. Their canines are the most important teeth that they have. They also use their morlars to chew food. The polar bears class is a mammal. They're also carnivores.

Behavior Sometimes polar bears will stay together until they're old enough to have a family. To protect themselves from hunters, they show their very sharp canines to show that they are dangerous. Polar bears have lots of trouble with people. Polar bears think of people as enemies. It is because for years the native Arctic people have been hunting polar bears so they could have their food to eat and their fur to make coats. Polar bears population are getting smaller. Polar bears have two bad things to worry about. Humans and pollution. If humans keep polluting the ocean Polar bears can't hunt and can't really eat!

Hibernating When it comes to the time that polar bears have to hibernate, they dig their own dens to sleep. Sometimes when the female polar bear is pregnant they will see if she could find a den that is already dug in. If they can't find anything, they will just dig their own den. They start hibernating in the winter. They stop hibernating somewhere around February.

Polar Bear Cubs Female polar bears give birth to cubs around February. A female polar bear gives birth to twins or triplets. When polar bear cubs are born, they weigh about 2 pounds. Baby cubs are deaf and they have a little bit of fur. To keep them warm, they snuggle into there mothers warm fur. Their mother gives them milk so they could grow pretty quickly. After a couple of months the cubs can see and hear. In that time the mother polar bear teaches its cubs how to hunt, dig dens, and swim.
