Guidelines for appointment as associate professor at Malmö University Associate professor is an academic title which means that the holder has academic skills and expertise which are significantly higher than requirements for a doctorate. The award of the title of associate professor involves both rights and responsibilities. In order to work as principal supervisor on doctoral research programmes, associate professor expertise is required. The associate professor is required to act as a member of examining committees, to act as faculty examiner in the public defence of doctoral theses as well as expert in academic appointments. In addition, the university can request the associate professor's participation in teaching and as a member of working parties concerning research and teaching.
