360 Martial Arts Extravaganza Shaolin Kung Fu Boot Camp Improves Youngsters’ Health Through Martial Arts Learn from the Martial Arts Spirit – Be Perseverant and Resilient (Hong Kong, 6 August, 2013) Ngong Ping 360’s annual summertime “360 Martial Arts Extravaganza”, which got underway on June 29, is now in full swing and once again providing guests with a host of enthralling entertainment. This year, in an effort to allow disadvantaged children to also enjoy the show, Ngong Ping 360 launched a summer boot camp and invited a group of youngsters from Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui St. Christopher's Home, to learn basic kung fu moves from genuine Shaolin Kung Fu masters. The initiative is part of the organization’s efforts to promote exercise and healthy living among Hong Kong youth, to introduce them to the cultural roots of Chinese martial art forms and to help instill a sense of perseverance and resilience in their lives. Ngong Ping 360 also invited JuJu Chan, who recently returned from Bulgaria where she represented Hong Kong at the 18th International Taekwondo Federation World Championship, to share her knowledge on Kung Fu and her experience at the tournament with the children. In addition to enjoying the cable car journey, the children, most of who had never before visited Ngong Ping 360, were also treated to a guided tour of Ngong Ping Village, and were entertained by “Shaolin Kung Fu & Jeet Kune Do Showcase”, while Shaolin Kung Fu masters presented the “Xiangxing Fist”, “Damo Sword” and “Eighteen kinds of weapons” and Jeet Kune Do masters also displayed their flexible fist and leg moves. Afterwards, Shaolin Kung Fu masters taught them basic Kung Fu actions. “As one of the main tourist attractions in Hong Kong, Ngong Ping 360 wants to bring joy to as many people as possible. We are also very concerned about the growth of our future masters. Through such healthy activities as Kung Fu, they not 1/7

only learn about martial arts, but also the importance of maintaining perseverance and resilience which will benefit their growth and development,” said Stella Kwan, Head of Commerce and Marketing of Ngong Ping 360. For her part, JuJu Chan encouraged the children never to give up and explained how she overcame obstacles she encountered while learning Kung Fu. She also shared her experiences in participating as Hong Kong’s envoy at an international tournament. “It was such an eye-opening and valuable experience to participate in The 18th International Taekwondo Federation World Championships in Bulgaria and it was my honour to compete with the world-class professional athletes. It has been my dream to be a strong athlete ever since I was little, but I have encountered many difficult moments. I hope you guys won’t give up your own dreams, think outside the box, and do not restrict your lives by the limited resources you may have,” said JuJu. Ngong Ping 360 has tailored many exciting programmes for visitors to the two-month “360 Martial Arts Extravaganza” event which concludes on 1 September. More than enhancing the travel experience for guests, the show can also help them better understand the spirit of Chinese martial arts. Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui St. Christopher's Home Sheng Kung Hui St. Christopher's Home, founded in 1935 by the late Bishop R.O. Hall in Taipo, began as an orphanage taking care of homeless children. But in 1993, following the instigation of new welfare policies, the Home changed its service mode, established 24 small group homes in each district in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories, to provide family-like residential care to children and youth who came from broken families. Today, the Home is the largest non-governmental organization in Hong Kong providing small group home service for children who cannot receive adequate family care, dedicated to help creating and sustaining a caring environment for children and youth to grow, to develop potentials and to live a life of fullness.
