An invitation is extended to all eligible figure skaters to participate in the Skate Canada - Central Ontario STARSkate Championships. Skate Canada rules and regulations will apply throughout the competition unless otherwise specified.

Entrants in categories in the 2017 Skate Canada - Central Ontario STARSkate Championship shall: 1) Be eligible persons as defined in the Skate Canada rulebook Section 2100 2) Be Associate members in good standing of the Association whose home club is in Skate Canada - Central Ontario. Registration: Registration for this event is an online submission and must be completed in full in order for the entry to be accepted. The detailed registration instructions are included in this announcement. Please refer to the end of the document. Closing Date of Entries: Access to online registration will cease at 4:00pm on December 14, 2016. Registrations will be accepted on first come-first served basis with restrictions in certain categories to accommodate the scheduling of categories.

2017 Skate Ontario Championships The 2017 Skate Canada - Central Ontario STARSkate Championships is the only qualifying competition for the 2017 Skate Ontario Championships. Please note: STAR 3 - 4 Singles and STAR 2/3 Dance are non-qualifying categories.

Singles:

Skaters will advance to represent the section at the 2017 Skate Ontario Championships March 17 – 19, 2017 in Port Colborne, ON STAR 5 U10, U13, 13 & over - Skaters placing first to third plus wildcards if applicable STAR 6, 8 & 10 – Skaters placing first to fourth plus two (2) wildcards STAR 7 & 9 – Skaters placing first to third plus wildcards if applicable Pre-Juvenile – Skaters placing first to fourth plus two (2) wildcards Juvenile – Skaters placing first to fourth plus two (2) wildcards

Dance:

STAR 4/5 to Diamond – Skaters placing first to third plus wildcards if applicable Pre-Juvenile - Skaters placing first to third plus wildcards if applicable Juvenile - Skaters placing first to third plus wildcards if applicable

CATEGORIES:

Competitors may enter only one category in a discipline, with the exception of STAR 7 & STAR 9. Skaters are permitted to enter STAR 7 or STAR 9 in addition to their free skate category. (i.e. only one single category but may also enter one pair and/or dance category, and/or a triathlon category. JUVENILE PAIR (Ranked) Must be under the age of 16 before July 1 preceding the event. Qualifying test requirement: Each partner must have passed the complete Junior Bronze freeskate test or higher. Program Length: 2:30 minutes (+/- 10 seconds)

DANCE CATEGORIES Competitors may enter only one category in a discipline (i.e. only one single category but may also enter one pair and/or dance category, and/or a triathlon category.) Mixed Couples Only. Age Eligible before July 1 preceding the event Test eligible as of November 15 preceding the event Dances are to be skated in the order listed. The number of dance patterns to be skated shall be the same as for Evaluated Tests. Please refer to the Skate Canada Technical Handbook Figure Skating Terms Defined - 3.15 (2). Also, please note that the Dances are to be started such that the first pattern of the dance is on the judges’ side of the ice surface. STAR 2/ 3 - NON QUALIFYING CATEGORY (Assessed to standard)

PRE-JUVENILE PATTERN DANCE

Qualifying test requirement: Each partner must have passed the complete Junior Bronze dance test and shall be under the age of 14 before July 1 preceding the event. Fiesta Tango (2 sequences) and Willow Waltz (2 sequences)

JUVENILE DANCE (Combined Category)

Qualifying test requirement: Each partner must have passed the complete Junior Bronze Dance test and shall be under the age of 16 before July 1 preceding the event. This competition will consist of two parts: PATTERN DANCES: The two pattern dances drawn are: Ten Fox 3 sequences) and European Waltz (2 sequences) FREE DANCE: A free dance to music of 2.0 minutes (+ or - 10 seconds) in duration. The requirements for this program shall be as communicated each season.

TRIATHLON CATEGORIES Entrants in the Triathlon Categories must register to compete in the highest level that their test qualifications qualifies them for. For example, a skater who has passed the Senior Silver Skills, Bronze Interpretive and Senior Silver FreeSkate must compete in Silver Triathlon and cannot skate in Bronze Triathlon. The specifications for each part of the Triathlon categories are outlined in the Skate Canada 2016-2017 STARSkate competition Technical package. This package may be found on the Skate Canada Info Centre. BRONZE TRIATHLON (Ranked) (I) TEST: May have passed at least two of the following tests: Junior Silver free skate test, and/or Junior Silver Skating Skills and/or Bronze Interpretive test. (II) SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: The Bronze Triathlon will consist of 3 parts: - One Bronze Creative Skating Skills exercise - One Bronze Interpretive Program - One STAR 8 Free Skate program

SILVER TRIATHLON (Ranked) (I) TEST: Must have passed at least two of the following tests: Senior Silver free skate test, and/or Senior Silver Skating Skills and/or Silver Interpretive test. (II) SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: The Silver Triathlon will consist of 3 parts: - One Silver Creative Skating Skills exercise - One Silver Interpretive Program - One STAR 10 Free Skate program

GOLD TRIATHLON (Ranked) (I) TEST: Must have passed at least two of the following tests: Gold free skate test, and/or Gold Skating Skills and/or Gold Interpretive test. (II) SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENT: The Gold Triathlon will consist of 3 parts: - One Gold Creative Skating Skills exercise - One Interpretive Program of a maximum 3:00 minutes in length - One Gold Free Skate program NOTE: Technical requirements and program lengths for each part of the Triathlon are available in the STAR Technical Requirements Package.

RULES AND REGULATIONS No skater will be registered until all money owing is properly paid by the December 14th closing date. The committee reserves the right to limit entries in categories. Your PayPal receipt of payment is your registration confirmation. Please print your receipt and retain for your records.

LATE ENTRIES: NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. • •

Anyone missing the registration deadline will be put on a wait list. Should a spot become available, their entry will be considered. If a late entry is accepted, a $50.00 late fee will be applied.

CHANGES TO CATEGORIES: NO CHANGES TO CATEGORIES WILL BE MADE FOLLOWING THE CLOSING DATE. • •

Please ensure you review your skaters’ entries noted on the confirmation e-mails you receive to verify the correct categories. Changes to categories can be made prior to the closing date by logging into the system and making the correction.

REFUNDS AND WITHDRAWALS:

Full refunds will be given for any cancelled categories. If an entry is withdrawn prior to December 14th, 2016, a refund (less an administrative fee of $35.00 per skater) will be granted. NOTE: NO REFUNDS (including medical) will be granted after December 14, 2016.

QUALIFICATION FOR ENTRY: 1) Competitive skaters - Skaters who are registered with Skate Canada in the current year at the Novice, Junior or Senior categories at the 2017 Skate Canada Central Ontario Sectional Championships (in November 2016) are not eligible to compete at the 2017 Skate Canada-Central Ontario STARSkate Championships in any category at any level. For the purposes of interpretation of this regulation, registration for a Sectional event is defined as the submission of a registration form for such event. Skaters registered to compete in the Pre-Novice level at a Sectional or Sectional qualifying competition may register to compete in event categories at the 2016 Skate Canada-Central Ontario STARSkate Championships other than those competed in at a Sectional Competition. Please see the table below for the qualifications for entry. Categories that may be entered at the 2017 SKATE CANADA-CENTRAL ONTARIO STARSkate Championships NO CATEGORIES Singles, Pair and Triathlon Pair and Dance Singles, Triathlon and Dance All Categories All Categories

Skaters registered to compete in the INVITATIONAL portion of their 2017 Sectional Championship event (November 2016) shall not be restricted as these are not qualifying categories and may enter the 2017 Skate Ontario STARSkate Championship. 2) Previous Winners: A previous winner of a Trillium STARSkate category is not eligible to re-enter the same category. 3) Test Prerequisites: Competitors wishing to enter shall have passed the tests for the various categories by November 15 preceding the competition.

4) Skating up: Skaters may skate up one level in the Freeskate categories, if desired. Skating up is not permitted in the Triathlon, Pair and Dance categories. 5) Composition of Partners: Couples for Pair and Dance categories must be comprised on one woman and one man. Each individual in the partnership must satisfy all eligibility requirements. 6) All events judged under CPC are final events (one flight only per category). 7) Skaters may participate in either the 2017 Skate Ontario Championships or the 2017 Skate Ontario Adult Invitational, but not both. 8) Skaters may qualify for only ONE of STAR 5, 6, 8, 10 or Gold Singles category OR a Pre-Juvenile or Juvenile Singles category, but not more than one. 9) Skaters may qualify for only ONE of STAR 7 or STAR 9. Skaters may qualify for STAR 7 or STAR 9 in addition to their Free Skate (STAR, Pre-Juvenile, or Juvenile) or other category. 10) Where there are multiple age levels for an event category a skater may qualify for one age level only. 11) Triathlon skaters are eligible for Free Skate and Short Program categories.

PRACTICE ICE:

There will be no official practice ice.

ON-SITE REGISTRATION:

Each competitor is entitled to be accompanied by an accredited coach/choreographer. All competitors and coaches/choreographers must register on-site. Registration will commence on Friday, February 3, 2017, one hour before the first scheduled category.

MUSIC:

Each entry must provide two CDs of the correct music for the competition upon registration, one for competition marked “Master” and one for back up - marked “Copy”. These must be registered with music registration at least one hour prior to the posted start time of the category and may not be removed for any reason until after the category is completed. CD masters and copy backups are the only music format accepted. iPhones, iPods or other digital sources will not be accepted. Music must be picked up within 30 minutes after completion of the category. All music used must be in the public domain or covered by the performing rights societies. Competitors who have music composed specifically for their programs either wholly or in part, are responsible for obtaining a written release from the composer for the use of such music on radio and/or television or appropriate clearance from the performing rights societies. Entries will be refused if the music information on the online skating profile form is not complete, particularly the names and composers of the music selections.

Only one program shall be recorded on each CD The start of the music shall be recorded on the CD with less than two seconds of lead in. Competitor’s name followed by category, program type – short or free, and music time shall be shown on the CD label. Each CD shall be enclosed in a plastic case marked with the skater’s name, category, program type – short or free, and total music time.

All dance categories will be skated to Skate Canada Dance Records Series 8.

AWARDS:

Medals will be presented 15 minutes after results are posted. Skaters should be in skating attire with skates on for medal presentations.

COACH ACCREDITATION:

In order to be accredited at the 2017 Skate Canada - Central Ontario STARSkate Championships, coaches must be Primary STARSkate certified or higher and be a current professional coaching member of Skate Canada. Up to two certified coaches per entry will be accredited. If a replacement coach is attending the event, please contact Skate Canada - Central Ontario 48 hours prior to the event. (905-760-9100 ext. 224) ** If a coach does not have their photo ID but is accredited to enter, a temporary ID will be provided at a cost of $25.00. No Refunds. No exceptions.**

2016 – 2017 SKATE CANADA - CENTRAL ONTARIO CODE OF CONDUCT APPLICATION This Code of Conduct and any rules made pursuant hereto shall apply to any skater participating in any competition, carnival, exhibition or programme held within or sponsored, in whole or in part, by Skate Canada - Central Ontario. PUBLICATION This Code of Conduct has been adopted by the Board of Directors of Skate Canada – Central Ontario and any amendments hereto, any rules made from time to time pursuant hereto or by way of explanation hereof shall be determined and adopted by such Board of Directors and shall be made known to all member clubs of Skate Canada – Central Ontario by the mailing of a copy of this Code of Conduct or any amendments, rules or explanations to each of such member clubs within the Section. Further, any skater participating in any program or competition of Skate Canada – Central Ontario shall be required to acknowledge receipt of a copy hereof and to agree in writing prior to such participation to be bound by this Code of Conduct. RULES While participating in any competition, carnival, exhibition or program as a figure skater, such skater: • shall not possess, use or supply to others any alcohol, narcotics or unprescribed drugs while at, within or near the site of such competition, carnival, exhibition or program or any residence or other accommodations provided in connection therewith or while in the course of being transported to or from such locations; • shall not conduct himself or herself in an unreasonable or unacceptable manner (which for clarity shall mean and include unsportsmanlike conduct, breaking training or curfew, wilfully damaging property or committing any act which is considered an offence under any duly promulgated law); and • shall not be in breach of any rules of conduct promulgated by Skate Canada. PENALTIES Any damage to property shall be paid for by the skater causing same. In addition to any action which may be taken immediately by the Skate Canada – Central Ontario official in charge at the time, the skater shall be subject to being sent home at the skater's expense and shall be required to reimburse any costs involved in the skater's participation in the event concerned and shall not receive any further financial assistance from Skate Canada – Central Ontario. APPEALS If a skater wishes to appeal any personal application of this Code of Conduct, such skater shall submit a written appeal to the Chairman of Skate Canada – Central Ontario within five days of the occurrence giving rise to the application. Such appeal will be immediately investigated, a hearing shall be given to the skater and any decision thereon shall be binding upon the skater.

ACCIDENT AND PUBLICITY WAIVER It is understood and agreed that Skate Canada - Central Ontario shall not be liable for injury or loss occasioned by the athlete while travelling to or from or during the Skate Canada – Central Ontario Sectional Competition, nor shall Skate Canada - Central Ontario be responsible for any damages or losses caused by the athlete during the same time. The athlete and/or athlete's parent(s)/legal guardian agree to indemnify Skate Canada - Central Ontario and hold them harmless from any claims or demands in respect of such loss or damage. The competitor hereby acknowledges and consents to the fact that the Skate Canada – Central Ontario Sectional Competition will be videotaped either in whole or in part. The competitor hereby consents to the use of his/her name, biography and likeness on or in connection with any television or radio program, motion picture or still pictures, video, new media, Internet, web, print media or the advertising and publicizing of such program as may be designated by Skate Canada - Central Ontario and waives all rights to remuneration or otherwise in connection with the above. The foregoing is subject to assurance that the eligibility of the competitor will be fully protected by Skate Canada.

SKATE CANADA – CENTRAL ONTARIO ONLINE COMPETITION REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS 2017 SKATE CANADA – CENTRAL ONTARIO STARSKATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

In order to register for competitions utilizing the COS online competition registration system, please have the following information ready before proceeding: • • • • • • •

Skater’s Skate Canada ten digit membership number (If you do not know your membership number please CONTACT your home club.) Email address associated with the skater’s record (If you do not know the email address on file, please CONTACT your home club.) Attending coach’s name and email address – if required by competition registration. If entering a category with a partner, have the partner’s Skate Canada ten digit membership number, name and email address. If entering an interpretive category, have the interpretive title. If entering a team category, have the team name ready and for each skater on the team, have the Skate Canada ten digit membership number and name. Credit card information for payment processing.

If you are an international skater and do not yet have a registration number assigned to you, contact the Skate Canada Central Ontario office to obtain a temporary registration number and password. This only needs to be done for the first competition you are registering for and can be reused for subsequent competition registrations. REGISTER: • Go to the Skate Canada – Central Ontario Events page. • Click on the icon for the respective event. LOGIN: • Enter your Skate Canada ten digit membership number and your password (default is your last name). • Click “Log In” to proceed. SKATER INFORMATION: • Verify the mandatory fields for accuracy and complete any missing mandatory fields. • Once you have completed this check, click the check box for “Confirm above information is correct!” • Click “Next” to continue. (You will not be able to proceed to registration without verifying the information.) COMPETITION SELECTION: • A list of all active competitions will be displayed, along with the closing date and time. • To select the competition you wish to register for, click the competition name. You will be taken to category selection screen. NOTE: You can register for categories as long as the competition registration is open. You can log in and review your registration as often as you like, pay for category registrations, add additional registrations at any time prior to registration closing and make additional payments. You can also remove registrations (only if competition is still open), but if the registrations have been paid for, you must contact the REGISTRAR to receive a refund for the withdrawal.

CATEGORY SELECTION: • Only categories that you are eligible to enter will be displayed. If you are female, only female categories will be displayed. Also age restricted categories will be displayed appropriately, depending on your age on the effective age date for the competition. • If a category is FULL and no waiting list available, the category will display with a FULL status and you cannot register for the category. • If a category is FULL and a waiting list is available, you can click on the category and you will be asked if you want to add your name to the waiting list (NO fee will be charged for waiting list entries). • Click “Go” to proceed to register for the category. •

Attending Coach:  Enter the name and e-mail address of the attending coach. (You may list up to two attending coaches.)  Click “Add” to add the category to your registration list.



Registering a pair/dance team:  Only one partner needs to register for a given category.  Enter your partner’s Skate Canada ten digit membership number, name and e-mail address.  Enter any attending coaches.  Click “Add”. The partner’s number will be verified. If incorrect, an error message will be displayed.



Submission:  Once you have entered the categories you wish to register for, click “Submit Registration” to proceed to payment processing.

Once reviewed, click the check box for agreement of the waiver. • Once you have agreed (You cannot proceed without agreeing to the waiver.), click the “Submit” button to move to payment processing. All previous categories entries that have been paid are not shown. • Confirm that the entry fee being charged is correct. • Complete the credit card information. • Verify the information. • Click the “Submit” button. PAYMENT CONFIRMATION: • Once the payment has been processed a “Registration Payment Confirmation” screen will appear. • You may print this page for your records. • A confirmation e-mail has been sent to the e-mail address for the skater, to all attending coaches whose e-mail address you provided, and to any partners you registered for. • Click “Done”. You will be returned to the “Category Selection” screen.
