The Rosemount Double Dutch Club, sponsored by the American Heart Association since 2009, is a demonstration team for schools in the Rosemount, MN area that participate in Jump Rope For Heart. The 2015-2016 coaches are Hannah Betters and Laura Rietveld, high school students who served as Double Dutch Club captains during their elementary and middle school years. Assisting them is former coach Kathi Engebretson, Rosemount Elementary physical education teacher since 1980. The team performing at the SHAPE America convention includes jumpers from elementary school and high school. Title: Kendama: Ancient Game, New Breath Kendama, an ancient 100 year old Japanese game, is being re-created in North America. The game consists of a wooden ball attached by a string to a handle consisting of three different sized cups and a spike. Players toss the ball onto the cups and the spike with various combinations — there are currently over 300 different tricks to learn. The first step in playing is to learn how to toss the ball onto the cups and then start transferring the ball into different positions. Kendama is a great cross-training tool that bolsters small and large motor skills and teaches perseverance, patience in practice and self-esteem.
