symposium description: This symposium is designed for physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, physicians and other healthcare professionals interested in the evaluation and management of the shoulder and trunk, including how they relate to the kinetic chain and functional rehabilitation. The most current concepts will be presented in various ways: didactic sessions, panel discussions, video presentations, case presentations, and hands-on workshops. These formats are designed to provide interaction between registrants and presenters.

Learning Objectives: The program will enable participants to: • Define rotator cuff disease and scapular dyskinesis, as well as the related terminology associated with pathology to each anatomical component. • Identify specific shoulder problems relating to the athlete over age 50. • Provide an overview of the involved physiology, mechanics and anatomy. • Illustrate the techniques and components of evaluation and treatment of patients using the kinetic chain. • Present specific injury patterns and kinetic chain adaptations that can lead to injury. • Present clinical findings typical with the injuries presented. • Identify surgical treatment indications and illustrate surgical techniques via virtual demonstration. • Discuss the prognosis of surgical procedures based on etiology. • Illustrate functional rehabilitation. • Discuss case presentations that will present injury mechanism, evaluation, treatment options, surgical procedure, functional rehabilitation, and functional return to activity. • Illustrate the kinetic chain link between the upper and lower extremities. • Identify key guidelines for functional progression to the return of full activity. • Discuss tools for assessment of functional outcomes.
