Large disc

performance for today’s smaller farmers.

1211

The Model 1211 Disc Harrow is Sunflower’s discing answer for America’s smaller farmers. It is available in rigid models only and matches tractor horsepower in the range of 110 and lower. With exception of gauge wheels, the 1211 has all of the same outstanding features common to the 1233. It’s tough, heavy and capable of performing primary and finish discing operations. Like all discs from Sunflower, the 1211 truly meets the toughest standards, earning the label of America’s best built disc.

Safety lighting and SMV sign are standard equipment on every Sunflower machine.

Leveling the disc from front-to-rear is very simple with the easily accessible leveling screw. Heavy-duty compression springs cushion the front and rear gangs when crossing ditches or rough terrain.

Dual wheels provide stability and even penetration across the width of the machine. 2” slip in spindles with triple lip seals will provide years of trouble- free service. Dual wheels are standard on 13’–15’ models and optional on the 10’-12’ machines.

Uniform flexibility with

unmatched

penetration from a medium weight

disc.

1233

The Model 1233/1234 Disc Harrow is a medium weight disc that capably handles primary through finishdiscing operations. An all welded frame features even weight distribution for uniform penetration, and the three flexible sections assure that rough, rolling and terraced ground will be tilled evenly and smoothly. Large tires provide excellent flotation, unmatched depth control and the base for level discing. Like all Sunflower Discs, the 1233/1234 is loaded with features that give it a definite edge over competitive brands. These features will save you time, and enable the 1233/1234 to always provide a level job of discing, regardless of terrain, discing depth and/or soil condition.

Leveling the disc from front-to-rear is very simple with manual or optional hydraulic adjustment. Sunflower utilizes heavy-duty compression springs on each side of the pivot point to cushion both front and rear gangs, important when crossing ditches or rough terrain. The front-mounted depth control allows the operating depth of the entire disc to be adjusted with a single setting. This simple adjustment is easy, safe and precise.

Heavy-duty gauge wheels with exclusive parallel link and swivel design allows the gauge wheel to turn with the disc instead of creating a furrow or bending due to side loading.

Permanent safety light bracket mounts reduce the chance of loss or damage due to weed or brush entanglement. ASAE compliant.

Large 22” or 24”, full-concavity disc blades maximize residue coverage and soil penetration.  Large 13¼” gang shafts teamed with spring-end washers provide a strong, stay-tight disc gang assembly.  The 1233/1234 offers 8½” blade spacing or 7½” front and 8½” rear spacing on some models.

Automatic transport locks engage as the wings are folded for added safety and convenience. This eliminates the need for the operator to crawl on the frames to install pins.

Sunflower’s 1233/1234 disc folds hydraulically to narrow transport widths. The 18', 21' NC* and 24' NC* feature narrow center frames that allow these discs to fold to less than 13'. Larger sizes fold to under 16'. Increased ground clearance during transport makes travel from one field to another much easier. * Narrow Centers

Unmatched

Flexibility

with the industry’s most

Uniform performance.

1300

Sunflower introduced the first Flexible Offset Disc to the American farmer in 1968. With over 30 years of Disc building experience, Sunflower knows what it takes to make them work. Even today, the 1300 Series Disc from Sunflower is the best flexible Offset Disc on the market. Capable of performing primary through finish discing operations and loaded with performance enhancing features, you will see how the 1300 Series can increase your efficiency with each tillage pass.

Heavy-duty swivel type gauge wheel turns with the disc instead of creating a furrow or bending due to side loading found on rigid mounted gauge wheels.

Wheel adjustment on the center section of the 1331 or main frame of the 1321 is an essential adjustment. It allows the frame to be leveled to meet existing field conditions.

The lift systems are equipped with replaceable ductile cast iron bearings. The top casting features an X-groove that allows grease to flow over the entire bearing surface for increased life.

A longer 7’ hitch allows unrestricted turns resulting in less tire to frame contact. A third and lower hitch position has been included to better match the lower drawbars of track tractors.

UHMW now utilized in the pivot and thrust areas of the gauge wheels, more service free features than competitive tools.

Permanent safety light bracket mounts reduce the chance of loss or damage due to weed and brush entanglement. ASAE compliant.

All greasing has been eliminated in both the wing hinges and all transport connections by incorporating UHMW technology into the high wear areas.

Lift adjustment facilitates frame leveling and promotes smoother trash flow under the 1435 frame.

The split center rockshaft design improves wheel placement for better disc gang control and eliminates twisting of the lift axle.

UHMW technology has been incorporated into the lift and fold system for a maintenance free, greaseless operation that requires no daily attention (UHMW plastic sleeves shown).

Trunnion Bearing Design Sunflower’s trunnion bearings provide positive alignment, eliminate wear between the bearing and housing and ensure positive lubrication. As the C-Flex™ bearing standards move, gang bearings have to constantly realign. In conventional bearing systems the bearing moves within the housing. This eventually leads to wear between the bearing and housing, then bearing failure, because grease cannot get into the bearing. With the trunnion bearing there is never any wear between the bearing and housing and there is always positive lubrication. The trunnion bearing features triple lip seals that cannot be damaged by daily greasing and metal washers that protect the seals from being damaged by stocks or material wrapping around the gang shaft.

Common

DISC BLADE SCRAPER The scraper bar is mounted to the C-Flex hanger on each gang. As the C-Flex hanger moves up and down, the disc gang and scraper move together. This eliminates the scraper from bottoming out on the spools or coming into contact with the gang.

compone

TAPERED REAR GANGS Another long-time feature on Sunflower discs are tapered rear gangs. This feature promotes level, ridge-free discing. The precisely engineered preset gang angle assures that all soil thrown outward by the front gangs will be returned by the rear gangs. Unlike solid furrowfiller blades, Sunflower’s three-sided blade on each rear corner eliminates a continuous furrow and prevents water erosion on rolling ground.

C-FLEX™ BEARING STANDARD Standard equipment on every Sunflower disc, the C-Flex™ bearing standards absorb disc gang shock created by stumps, rocks, and normal discing. This extends bearing, spool and disc blade life. A bonus feature is the C-Flex’s™ ability to clear residue better than conventional rigid standards. The C-Flex™ bearing standards also allow for easy maintenance of the disc gang assembly. Just remove one bolt and loosen another bolt at each C-Flex™ location and the entire gang can be dropped. All C-Flex™ standards remain in place to assure the gang will be in the correct position when replaced.

GAUGE WHEELS A trademark on all flexible Sunflower discs is front-mounted gauge wheels. This important feature prevents the front gangs of the wing frame from gouging, buckling or cutting deeper than the other gangs, promoting a level, ridge or furrow-free field. The heavy-duty gauge wheels feature a 5-bolt hub and 8.00 x 10 ply tire.

DURABLE LIFT SYSTEMS Most Sunflower discs are equipped with a maintenance-free lift system. Maintenance-free lift systems pivot on space-age UHMW plastic sleeves that eliminate greasing.

With the exception of the 1300 Offset Series, every Sunflower disc features staggered overlapping disc gangs –– one of the keys to level discing. The overlapped placement of the front gangs cuts all of the ground cleanly while the staggered rear gangs throw the soil back in a criss-cross pattern. This arrangement eliminates the need for a chisel shank or bulk buster typically required in the center and behind the front gangs of conventional tandems. Even more importantly –– the Sunflower combination eliminates ridging in the center –– another problem common with conventional tandem discs. Sunflower also makes sure that tires are placed close to the hinge line on the center section and the outside of each wing. This assures the disc will perform properly, without gouging, in rough or terraced ground. Some manufacturers save money by simply extending the gang bars on wings to make the next larger size. This leaves the wing wheels too far inside and they cannot control the wings in rough or terraced ground.

14

nts and features.

HEAVY-DUTY GANGS 22" and 24" disc blades enhance residue coverage and increase ability to penetrate the soil. Large 1-3/4" gang shafts with a spring washer on the ends of the gangs, provide a solid foundation for maximum gang performance.

MAINTENANCE-FREE HINGES All greasing is eliminated on the heavyduty wing hinges with the maintenancefree UHMW plastic sleeves.

REPHASING-LIFT SYSTEM Standard equipment on Sunflower discs (except the 1300 Series) is a rephasinglift system that features simple wheel adjustment and precision depth control. This system eliminates all linkages, reducing unpopular wear points. In addition, each lift cylinder is equipped with replaceable hardened wear bushings on both clevis and cylinder-mounted ends for infinite field life.

LIGHT KIT Permanent safety light bracket mounts reduce the chance of loss or damage due to weed or brush entanglement. ASAE compliant.

OPTIONAL FINISHING ATTACHMENTS

COIL-TINE HARROW Our most popular finishing attachment features three rows of 3/8" coil tines on 2-1/2" centers spaced 15" between bars. Each tine is individually mounted for easy replacement - no need to disassemble a complete bar. Each section features backup protection and can be adjusted for tine pitch, height, tilt and down pressure.

THREE ROW SPIKE The three row spike drag adds a finishing touch to any operation. Independent flexing of each bar allows maximum conformance to irregular terrain. The combination of the three row spike’s weight with 11" spikes on 1-1/2" centers, effectively completes the seedbed and incorporation process whether primary or finish discing.

REAR TOW HITCH Two rear tow hitch options are available. The first, shown in this photo, features a slide hitch and ball joint for ease of hook-up in limited space situations. The second option, not shown, features a fixed hitch with ball joint.

"My Sunflower Disc was a

good investment, a wise investment." By Chester Peterson Jr.

“If I had the decision to make again, I’d definitely buy another Sunflower flexible tandem disc. My Sunflower disc was a good investment, a wise investment.” That’s how Dan Tindall sums up the first year of using his new disc. He farms 720 acres of corn and soybeans on mostly rolling, terraced ground near Akron, Iowa. He follows a minimum-tillage system in order to leave enough surface residue to both cut down on erosion and to be in NRCS compliance. He used his disc in early April, immediately following it with the planter. Although he hasn’t disced in the fall before, due to Bt corn hybrids he plans to begin doing some discing this fall in order to get some of the additional residue that’s produced buried and begin breaking down. “I noticed that I had to raise my planter up a little bit this spring, because the ground was just mellower than ever before and I was able to go deeper. “This was great, since I was still getting a level planting surface and not having any problem with the trash,” Tindall reports. He found that the soil is definitely more mellow and a lot softer after going over it with his Sunflower disc. What this observation meant to him was that he’s now getting better aeration, and that root growth should be enhanced, too.

Grower Location Situation Soil Condition Tillage Tool Used

He also noticed that the disc’s gauge wheels on the wings allowed it to ride the terraces well and still be level and work without ridging or gouging. “I think it’s tremendous how my Sunflower disc leaves the seedbed so level,” Tindall observes, “even where the going got rough. This is important, because I want to get my corn seed planted at an optimum, uniform depth for best yields. The ground couldn’t have looked better after I got done discing it,” he adds. “All the stalks were nicely cut and torn up, all in a level seedbed. It kind of looked like each field was saying, ‘Hey, we’re ready to be planted now’!” Maintenance goes fast, according to Tindall, with the few grease zerks readily accessible and the maintenance-free features of the UHMW polymer that is used in the rockshafts and wing hinges. What initially caught Tindall’s eye when he saw his first Sunflower disc on a dealer’s lot was how heavyduty and durable it appeared. From the disc gangs to the steel tubing to the welds to the workmanship to its heaviness, he remembers being impressed on close inspection. “This is a well-built disc,” he comments. “No farmer wants to be back in the implement store in a couple of years making another trade. That’s certainly not going to be a problem with my Sunflower disc. The durability is there. This disc is going to last me a long time,” Tindall predicts, “and I think it’s easily going to last ten years for me.”
