Bank Statement This document makes a statement you won’t hear from your high-street bank. It says that if you ask us to look after your money, we’ll tell you exactly what we’re doing with it. Know where your money goes Very simply, you can find every organisation we lend to in the UK and Ireland inside. You might be surprised to know that we’re the only commercial bank that does this. So while other banks talk about being open and transparent, we’re actually doing it. We also hope you enjoy reading about some of the businesses and charities making positive change happen across the UK. And, if you’re a Triodos Bank customer, thank you for choosing to activate your money. With your support, we’ve helped some of the UK’s most inspiring organisations to make their ideas and plans happen.

How do banks work? What do you look for when choosing your bank? Most people want a secure home for their money where they can earn interest on their deposits. But a bank is more than just a safe place to keep your money. Banks make their profit by lending your money to someone else. 2

Savings The financial crisis has prompted a lot of commercial banks to talk about transparency and openness. But we’re still the only bank to

actually tell our customers what we’re doing with their money. As a Triodos saver, we offer you a direct connection between your money and the people and organisations providing answers to the biggest environmental and social questions we face. So, with Triodos, your money generates interest, and actively helps to make the world a better place.

We offer a clear, simple choice of savings – from Cash ISAs and Young Savers to Charity Saver accounts that support some of the UK’s leading campaigning organisations. Visit our website, www.triodos.co.uk, for our full range of accounts and the latest news and views from the bank.

To show you exactly what we mean, this book lists all the projects we lend to at the time we write it. Triodos Bank can only lend to the businesses and charities like the ones listed here because people like you choose to deposit your money with us. Our savings accounts provide a secure home for your money, and we promise we’ll only use it to help finance enterprises that care for people and the planet. We don’t just avoid companies that do harm – we only lend to organisations actively doing good. Our relationship with you is based on trust – trust that we’ll use your money to make a difference, and trust that we’ll tell you how we’re doing it, through publications like this one and our regular magazine, Triodosnews.

Business Banking Triodos Bank finances some of the UK’s most exciting ethical businesses and charities. In this issue of Inspiring Change you can read about every organisation we lend money to, from small co-operatives to international businesses, and local charities to household ethical brands. Because we only work with organisations committed to making the world a better place, we’ve developed unrivalled expertise built on a real understanding of the financial challenges you face. And we marry this technical knowledge with a genuine interest in you, your work, and the values that underpin it. Triodos Bank’s Relation Manager Avril Herd (centre) gets to work with Tombreck’s Tober Brown and Sue Manning.

But a banking relationship isn’t just about understanding and trust. It also depends on making working together simple and easy. That’s why we have continued to develop and expand our services and products to give you the choice and flexibility you need. From everyday banking services like current accounts and internet banking to loans and capital raising, we offer everything under one roof, at a competitive price. And because we balance people, planet and profit, we’re able to offer more flexibility than many other banks. Arrangements such as revolving credit facilities mean you can get the money you need, when you need it, repaying it when you can without penalty. And if you can’t provide conventional security for your loan, we might be able to help you with a tailored community of borrowers arrangement. This list of our customers celebrates a growing body of successful organisations that focus on creating a better world. We hope they inspire you as much as they do us.

From well known and loved wind farms to cutting edge tidal technology, the need for alternative sources of energy has become more urgent than ever. Supported by Triodos Bank savers, these industries are making a future where all our energy comes from renewable sources a very real possibility. Assynt Hydro, in Sutherland, is a hydroelectric power station which, with careful planning and protection of surrounding wildlife habitats, has ensured the scheme has made little environmental impact.
