ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY, INCORPORATED “Buildingg on the Principles p off Zeta while BLAZING New Paths”
Mary Breaux Wright, International President SOUTHEASTERN REGION Greetings Sorors, Amicae, Brothers of Phi Beta Sigma, Youth, Male Network, Guests and Friends: It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 82nd Southeastern Regional Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on behalf of the executive board and our regional membership. I welcome you to the birth state of Founder Fannie Pettie Watts* (Perry, Georgia). To the regional home of four (4) Past International Presidents: Barbara C. Moore, 22nd International Grand Basileus; Dr. Jylla Moore Tearte, 20th International Grand Basileus; Dr. Eunice S. Thomas*, 19th International Grand Basileus, and Dr. Edith V. Francis, 18th International Grand Basileus. Atlanta is known as the birthplace of the civil rights movement in America. The city of Atlanta is also celebrated for its diverse musical heritage; its Southern hospitality; its sports teams, various entertainment venues and renowned Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and Delta Airlines hub. It is also the home of the world’s largest drive-in restaurant; the home of Coca- Cola, and the largest Hindu Temple in the world outside of India. In other words - welcome to the capital of the South! Additionally, 2016 has been declared the Year of the Undergraduate by our International President, and we are excited about having more of them present at the 2016 Regional Leadership Conference. Let’s encourage, support, engage and up-lift them as we enact this conference. The same effort will be made for each arm of our organization as we honor each and every Soror and support auxiliary. The planning team has put together a conference that will be long remembered by all attendees. We will also engage with our Brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, in a special Saturday evening event as we march towards Centennial. Lastly, let’s put our hearts and souls into making this conference a success. As is often stated by our International President “We are only great, when we Work together,” and “A Good Zeta, is a Well-Informed Zeta! “Let’s participate in all conference events, and remember our “Finer,” as we “Build on the Principles of Zeta while Blazing New Paths”. With Sisterly Love and Commitment to Service, Southeastern Regional Director Yvonne Jefferson-Barnes, Ed.D/Ph.D. *Triumphant Conference Planning Guide Rev 07/25/2016

2016 Care Facility Projects Golden Living Center: located in Decatur, Ga, is a 225 bed nursing facility focused on providing quality healthcare and enriching the lives of patients and residents. The center’s mission is to share passion for improving quality of life through innovative healthcare – one person, one family and one community at a time, providing short-term rehabilitation to long-term skilled nursing skills to residents. Summerset Assisted Living: located in Southwest Atlanta, is a 107 bed facility. Summerset was established over fifteen years ago by Mr. Mack Sr. & Dr. Gwendolyn Willis for their Aunt Lois who had helped with their boys during the Willis’ transition from Georgia to New Jersey. In the late 8o’s the Willis’ moved back to Atlanta while Aunt Lois remained in NY with her husband, Mr. James Wright. In the late 90’s after Aunt Lois’ husband passed the Willis’ noticed that Aunt Lois needed more care at home. Not able to receive quality care for her the Willis’ decided to build Aunt Lois her own home. They saw there was a need for an assisted living facility in the South-West community. They thought what better place to care for Aunt Lois than to build a home for her that can accommodate others like herself. Summerset has been giving quality care and a loving environment ever since. The Willis’ motto has been, “One of the good things about family is that they are always there when you need them”. So, the notion of responding to the needs of family is the foundation and genesis of Summerset where we pride ourselves on providing top quality, excellent and compassionate care to those we serve. Sadie G. Mayes Health and Rehabilitation Center: located in northwest Atlanta, is a nursing home that operates as a tribute to Sadie Gray Mays, who attended Paine College and had a special concern for the young, aged, disadvantaged and the poor. The facility was opened in 1947 to assist African Americans who were ill, homeless and many times unwanted. Prior to Medicare and Medicate, these persons were placed in a home known as the “Poor House”. Its name was later changed to Sadie GG. Mays Health & Rehabilitation Center to reflect the center’s transition to comprehensive rehabilitation and specialty services. It is a 206 bed, skilled facility whose goal is to assist each resident to attain or maintain his or her practicable mental, physical and psychosocial well-being with dignity and respect.

82 nd Southeastern Regional Conference Regional Newsletter Submissions
Fall Edition - Chapter Input & Conference newsletter (to include all submissions from chapters and new information from Nationals). Deadline - October 12, 2016. Important Changes 1. State submissions should come through State Antapokritis instead of individual chapters. Rationale - A) reduce the amount of emails that are sent. B) allows each state to arrange their own submissions. It will keep State Directors knowledgeable of what is being submitted from their state. C) provides opportunity for submissions to be proofed within the State before being submitted for publication. 2. Each State Antapokritis should carefully review submissions for grammatical errors as they will be printed as submitted. Pictures should have identification, if desired. 3. Submissions should include chapter activities including work done with Z-HOPE, Adopt-A-School, Elder Care, Undergraduate Sorors (this is the Year of the Undergraduate) and Military Sorors. 4. States should also submit ideas regarding the successful implementation of the International Grand Basileus’s Signature programs. 5. Be mindful of deadlines. If submissions come after deadline, they will possibly be held until the next publication of the newsletter. 6. No photos should be embedded within the documents. Photos should come as a jpeg file or anther acceptable photo file.
Form must be received by September 30, 2016 by: Your State Antapokritis Soror Stephanie L. Dukes
