Holiday Volunteering: November-December. United Way of Salt Lake publishes a list of holiday volunteering and in-kind donation opportunities. These opportunities fill up fast, so visit uw.org/volunteer, click on Volunteer Events, and check-out the list. Dr. Seuss Day: March. Each year, volunteers across the country celebrate the work of Dr. Seuss with events that involve reading with kids and other fun activities. Youth can host donation drives on or before Dr. Seuss Day to collect books for United Way of Salt Lake’s Neighborhood Centers. Day of Action: June. Volunteer at Hillcrest High School in Midvale to assemble kits for students, do indoor or outdoor cleaning, or participate in community outreach. Stuff the Bus: August. Stuff backpacks with donated supplies that go to United Way of Salt Lake’s neighborhood centers to help children prepare for school. Youth can host donation drives to collect school supplies in August or volunteer day-of to put supplies in backpacks. Sign-up at stuffthebus.uw.org.

Details: We collaborate with Tooele City Parks and Rec for a 12 Days of Christmas Night when families make 12 Christmas ornaments and then give them to selected families. Details: The Bountiful Food Pantry alleviates suffering and helps people move towards greater selfsufficiency. Volunteers work at the front counter, stock and sort, do office work and client intake, bag food, help with manual labor, and answer phones. Any ages, but under 14 needs an adult present.

Details: Meals on Wheels provides a daily meal to low-income, homebound, and sometimes isolated individuals. Greeting cards are included with the meal. Volunteers of any age provide their own supplies and make holiday-themed or generic cards with a simple “thinking of you” message.

Foster families provide good food, fresh water, safety, and love for abused and abandoned pets. Volunteers also transport them to the Layton Petco on Saturdays from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. to be shown for adoption.

Details: South Salt Lake Recreation offers t-ball, baseball, soccer, and basketball for kids from four years old through sixth grade. Each season, 150 kids play on 16-18 different teams. Games typically run from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and the seasons are about a month and half. Must be 16.

Details: We have opportunities for youth volunteers ages 13-18. Have your parent or guardian complete a Club Membership Form at a Club location near you. Turn this form into the Club where you would like to volunteer. Then, you will setup a schedule with the Club's Unit or Program Director.

Details: We provide free English classes to adult English language learners throughout Salt Lake County with the help of volunteer teachers. Help out by gathering donated materials and assembling kits for our adult English students and volunteer teachers. Please contact us for a list of our requested supplies.

Details: We provide 7,000 meals weekly and need 60 volunteers daily to prepare and serve food and cleanup. Young adults 13-15 may volunteer with a guardian, 16 and older may volunteer alone. Schedule your Monday – Sunday lunch or dinner shift ahead of time. Parking is available onsite.

Details: We create personalized music playlists for people with Alzheimer’s and chronic illnesses. Volunteer to collect iPods to donate to this program. We also need volunteers to establish a non-perishable food drive to replenish the Emergency Food Pantry. Volunteer to run a food drive, bring the items to the agency, and assist staff to sort the items. Details: The Adoption Center features cats and dogs available for adoption from local shelters. Volunteers help with a variety of tasks, from animal care to cleaning. Youth must be 12 to volunteer and have a parent present if under 15. Youth volunteers may not work with dogs. Details: House of Hope's Books for Bonding project encourages homeless mothers to read to young children every day to promote bonding and encourage reading. Volunteers collect and sort new or gentlyused books for ages 0-10. Flyer available if needed.

Details: Play is an important part of therapy, and our kids get a lot of use out of their toys. Organize a group activity to wash bins and toys or clean the rooms. Good for any age. Volunteer Monday – Friday, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Details: The Children’s Center offers social skills classes for families with an autistic child. Volunteers help staff watch siblings of these children. Volunteer Tuesday or Friday evening. The menu is up to you. Prepare a family favorite or create a unique dish for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Details: One in six seniors in Utah faces hunger. We provide free, monthly food assistance to low-income seniors and people with disabilities. We ask that you deliver to a minimum of three clients in Salt Lake on a monthly basis for at least six months. Volunteers can also sort food donations. Reserve dates 2-3 months in advance. Hour-long shifts available Monday evenings and Saturdays at 12:00 p.m. for children ages 6-12 years old. For safety reasons, no children under 6. Details: Help refugee women with self-reliance by tutoring them in English. Tutors receive training and are then paired with another volunteer to teach 3-4 women in the community. Volunteers must be 19, pass a background check, and are asked to commit to once a week for six months.

Details: Special Olympics is a volunteer organization with many opportunities. Volunteers coach, support events, help in local areas with a team, and more. Contact for more details. Must be at least 7 and have adult supervision if under 15.

Details: Real Food Rising is a community farming program of Utahans Against Hunger. Volunteers plant, prepare beds, make compost, and harvest crops, 75% of which is donated to food pantries. Volunteers of any age are welcome, and those under 13 must have parental supervision. Details: The mission of ISAT is to provide specialized services to people affected by abuse. Volunteers assemble care packages for kids in therapy. Choose a theme (holiday, summer, back-to-school, etc.) and get creating to make a kid smile! Volunteers are asked to provide all supplies.

Details: Create Memory/Comfort boxes for birth mothers and fathers who have made an adoption plan to remind them that they are not alone. Items usually include a decorated shoe box with journal, pen, selfcare items and other helpful items. Prepare Dinner for the Homeless

Details: Friends for Sight aims to prevent blindness in children by providing fee vision screenings and information. Volunteer to perform vision screenings in Salt Lake schools from August to October. Must be 16 with a consent form. Rock On! Details: The Hope Alliance collects and donates thousands of used eyeglasses to Peru, Guatemala, and other areas. Volunteers clean and sort the glasses, read the prescription, and record info in Excel. Groups can sort glasses from an off-site location. Basic Excel knowledge required. Minimum age: 16 years old, but does not exclude younger ages if they are supervised by an adult/guardian. Volunteers assist with swimming, horseback riding, cycling, archery, camps, skiing/snowboarding, and more.
