Leadership Development JOEY Restaurants has partnered with the best people, companies, and organizations in the field of leadership development to create a learning experience that opens up the world of leadership to our people and allows them to find their own personal leadership style. At JOEY, people are supported not only in developing themselves but are given the resources and tools to develop others in to talented leaders in their own right. JOEY has adopted a leadership model that is grounded in four foundational factors: Integrity, Authenticity, Being Committed to Something Bigger Than Yourself, and Being Cause in the Matter. All of our courses in this curriculum are aimed at developing at least one of these foundational factors.

SDI Course Description: This one day Strength Deployment Inventory workshop is a customized one day course that covers an array of topics in the areas of personal strengths, motivation and conflict management; but most notably it is a fun day of discovery about yourself and others. Some things you will take away from this course are: • A better understanding of what motivates you as well as others • How you and others deal with conflict • The differences between individuals and how this may be observed through behaviour • How you can motivate, coach, and communicate with others to increase your performance as well as other individuals and the team • Your personal strengths and how to apply them effectively Participants: This course is available to all FOH and BOH managers as well as our top performing partners. It is intended to be one of the first courses taken in the leadership development curriculum. Anyone in leadership or considering leadership would benefit from this one day program. 3 Day Excelerator Course Description: This 3 day program is the cornerstone program in our leadership development curriculum. Here people learn the skills and tools that are needed to coach as well as they are introduced to a model of coaching that can guide their practice. Some things you will be sure to take away from this course are: • Authentic listening skills • Effective questioning techniques • An appreciation for what it is to be open and coachable Participants: This course is available to salaried managers who would benefit from the learning outcomes of this course in their current stage of development. Emotional Intelligence has been linked to leadership and managerial success in the workplace. By using a highly reputable tool (the BarOn EQ-i) participants will work to maximize their EI in order to reach their professional goals as well as the goals of the organization. This five day course builds upon the three day Excelerator course and aims to transform coaches from being able to use the tools and skills of coaching to actually being coaches. This course is the final 36 hours of coach specific training required as part of the ACC ICF credential. Some things you will be sure to take out of this course are:

• A signature coaching presence / style

• Tools to successfully harness your emotional intelligence in order to reach personal and professional goals

• An ability to listen authentically

There are 12 spaces available in this course for interested applicants from the GM / Chef / Regional/ HO level. Applicants must submit an application to be considered for the course, they must be committed to being one of their regions coach representatives, they must be willing to co-facilitate the SDI and coaching courses in their region, and they must be interested in pursuing their ACC accreditation. Applicants who have been taking coaching on at the highest level (both coaching and getting coached) and who are at a stage in their development where mastering coaching is the next step for them will be selected for the course.

Mastering Leadership Course Description: This three day course is delivered in partnership with The Leaders Circle. It builds upon the JOEY foundations course and takes a deep look in to what it is to be a leader and what is needed to effectively exercise leadership and increase personal performance both inside and outside of the JOEY organization. Some things you will be sure to take out of this course: • A personal leadership stand • A stronger connection to leadership at JOEY • An empowering relationship to the JOEY Charter Participants: This course is available for salaried level managers, GM’s, Chef’s and Regional’s. This course is recommended for those managers who have already taken the courses in the novice leadership development path. It requires a high level of engagement from participants and participants must be willing to work with examples from their own life where there is opportunity for increased performance. Leadership Management & Organizational Imperatives Course Description: This 10 week course out of the MBA program at Royal Roads is offered as a scholarship to three individuals each year who have demonstrated leadership excellence. This master’s level course examines the day-to-day elements of effective leadership and management in organizations. Through both individual and collaborative processes, based on their own experience and grounded in established theory, learners will explore issues of motivation, organizational change, and administrative approaches to guide and realize their leadership potential. Participants: An application process is in place for this course. Anyone in a GM, Chef, or Regional role is eligible to apply. A communication will be sent out to all eligible when the application process begins. Offerings: This course is online. Check the corporate calendar to get the date.

Business Education It takes more than being good with people to be a successful operator in our business. There are a million moving parts and so called “hard skills” that business operators both inside and outside of JOEY must possess. JOEY Restaurants has partnered with Royal Roads University, and the best subject matter experts in their fields, to customize programs for JOEY managers that will give our people the foundational knowledge that they can directly apply to running their businesses.

Brand Communications Course Description: This one day course introduces participants to on brand communication in all formats. Participants will understand how to positively impact their personal brand through good written, verbal and non-verbal communication. We will look at “on brand” JOEY communication and work through a variety of scenarios that will have participants confident in sharing the JOEY brand seamlessly to guests, partners, and prospective partners. Some things you will be sure to take out of this course are: • An understanding of communication in the business context and the impact of good vs. bad communication

Some things you will be sure to take out of this course are: • Basic Employment Standards & Human Rights in the workplace expectations • A review of key JOEY policies and procedures • WCB requirements • Health and Safety responsibilities and requirements in the workplace • Hiring, Interview and Selection best practices Participants: This course is a required course for any manager in a salaried manager role. Anyone who is in or is on the path to be in salaried management should attend this course when it is delivered in their region. In order to respond to the complex issues our manager’s face they need to develop the ability to have deep impactful conversations. An effective conversation does not tell others how to behave, nor does it tell them how to respond to situations; it creates the opportunity for learning and growth. Everything from our internal coaching culture, which supports every person in the organization with a coach resource if they choose, to having offsite training courses, is intended to support our people in achieving excellence in every area of their life.

Landmark Forum Course Description: This course is run independent of the JOEY Restaurant group and scholarships are awarded to managers to attend if they choose to take this on in their own personal development. In this program individuals will look at their lives, behavious, and beliefs from a different perspective. Participants are challenged to expose their own “rackets” and move past barriers. This is a course on self exploration, therefore each participant must choose to participate in this course for themselves, and have complete the orientation before being registered for the program.
