Philippines: A Star Performer
There are several reasons to look to the Philippines as your target business destination. Today, the country is poised to become a “Star Performer In Terms of Economics” according to Citi Private Wealth. A “standout with its projected economic expansion, ” according to Merrill Lynch, the Philippine economy has grown 6.4% in the first quarter of 2012 alone, outpacing the International Monetary Fund’s forecast growth of 3.5% for the year— in large part due to the ever-growing Business Processing Outsourcing Industry (BPO) and Contact Center Industry. Recently named “The Most Attractive Global Provider of IT-BPO Services in Asia” by the Economist, the Philippines has officially overtaken India as the “World’s Call Center Capital” with over 600,000 contact center employees at its service. In a little more than
a decade, the IT-BPO industry has grown to $11B USD in revenues with a compounded annual growth rate of 20%; $27B USD in projected revenue by 2016, and expectations to capture 10% of global demand.
A revitalized economy, stable political environment, and highly skilled manpower — just a few among the country’s many strengths that will enable the sustained success you have always dreamed for your company.
A Pioneer and Leader in Philippine Telecommunications We can help you establish a professional presence in this emerging hotbed of Asia. We are PLDT, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PSEi: TEL, NYSE: PHI), established in 1928 as a merger of four telephone companies under common US ownership. Since then,
PLDT has risen to become what Forbes calls the “#1 Company in the Philippines.” PLDT employs a workforce of more than 34,000 employees, serving more than 2 million fixed-line customers, nearly 64 million mobile subscribers, almost 3 million broadband clients, as well as the top 10,000 Corporations and SMEs in the country.
Historical Perspective
The PLDT Group generated $3.6B USD in FY 2011, sustaining its run as the incumbent market leader in Philippine Telecommunications. Furthermore, from 2011 to 2012, the PLDT Group has committed $1.7B USD in Capital Expenditure to further upgrade infrastructure and spur innovation.
After 45 years of US administration, the Philippines inherited timeless American values such as democracy, free speech, and enterprise. Even after claiming independence in 1945, there are still some striking cultural similarities that will remind you of home. These include American English as a commercial language (including idioms), music, cinema, and American brand preferences.
We are also partly owned by NTT Communications (NTT), the largest telecommunications company in Asia, and a Fortune Global 500 company. Synergies with NTT have enabled PLDT to further elevate systems, infrastructure, expertise, and services to global-class quality.
Before becoming wholly Filipino owned, PLDT was started and operated as an American company. This was similarly the case for many companies of the period spanning utilities and other key industries.

Looping in an
Archipelago
We’ve invested $ 1.7B USD for fiscal year 2011-2012 alone, enhancing and expanding infrastructure quality and reach across the country’s 7,000 islands. We’ve also built the largest and the most resilient fiber network with more than 54,000 kilometers of fiber configured in loops and with various critical third routes, including fiber installations in buildings and exchanges. For high-bandwidth requirements, we have deployed more than 500 Ethernet nodes, a boon for companies with bandwidthhungry applications. Moreover, our Ethernet network maintains a Network-to-Network Interface with Radius Telecoms, a wholly-owned third-party Tier 2 Ethernet Provider with a strategic deployment of Ethernet nodes across Manila’s Central Business Districts as well as Industrial Parks totaling nearly 30 cities, independent of PLDT’s own network.
Furthermore, PLDT has acquired Digitel, the third largest Telco in the country, and has integrated over 40 more Ethernet locations. These acquisitions make PLDT the only Philippine Telco to provide a fully-diverse yet fully-managed last-mile solution to clients. PLDT was the first in the Philippines to deploy 40G technology in 2010 and 100G technology in 2012. By the end of 2012, PLDT’s Domestic Fiber Optic Network (DFON) will expand to nearly 4 Tbps of operating capacity along with 100G technology, and a new overlay network for future 400 Gbps and 1 Tbps technologies. These will enable and support the sustained growth of Wireless Broadband for mobile customers and Ethernet Services, especially for the BPO & Call Center Industry.
has been - and will continue to be - in the best position to maximize the opportunities presented by this demand explosion for Ethernet services, both in the near-term and for the long haul.

PLDT’s dedication to cutting-edge network technology is not limited to its domestic network – we have also invested heavily in international connections. PLDT owns and operates 3 landing stations – the most of any Philippine Carrier – hosting 4 cable systems: the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) and South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 3 (SMW3) in Nasugbu, Batangas; the Asia America Gateway (AAG) in Bauang, La Union; and the Asia Submarine-Cable Express (ASE) in Daet, Camarines Norte. These landing stations are geographically dispersed to ensure maximum diversity. Apart from wholly owned capacity, PLDT has invested strategically in other international cable systems to connect the Philippines to other key parts of the world, ensuring that the country is well connected to the global economy.

Providing expert connectivity beyond home shores
In 2000, PLDT Global Corporation (PGC) was established as the International Marketing, Sales and Operating Arm of the PLDT Group of Companies. Shortly after, PLDT United States (PLDT US Ltd.) was born in 2003, with the directive to grow the international retail and top enterprise businesses in America. Our strategic network of global alliances and advanced infrastructure make us the ideal choice for corporations looking to establish cost-effective, reliable connectivity to the Philippines.
Apart from PLDT US, PGC operates three other Points of Presence (POPs) outside of the Philippines – in Hong Kong (Mega-I & Sino Favor), Singapore (Equinix), and the United Kingdom (Telehouse). These are all equipped with globalclass Ethernet nodes, based on the same technology in our MEF 9 and MEF 14 Certified Domestic Network, enabling us to transit through these critical locations to onward connectivity using global partner networks.

Above all, your data will be passing through a Metro Ethernet Forum 9 and 14-Certified Ethernet Network and managed by our Ethernetcertified personnel, assuring you of global-class quality. If advanced speed and scalability are needed, EIPLC is the recommended solution.
What happens when destructive natural forces interrupt connectivity? We naturally find our way around it. PLDT US Managed E/IPLC is a premium service that enables your circuit to auto-switch from primary to secondary international cable systems. Typical IPLCs run through one cable system. If and when a cable cut occurs in the middle of the ocean, restorations may require two to three weeks. PLDT US Managed E/IPLC autoswitches almost instantaneously, offering maximum protection in cases of cable outages If full resiliency is paramount, Managed E/ IPLC is the solution-of-choice.

Leveraging on synergies with the PLDT Group, PLDT US offers you two unique value propositions for IPLCs and Ethernet IPLCs that other providers to the Philippines cannot match. Greater Value Last-Mile Redundancy:
We can offer redundant last-mile options at better value rates and with greater operational synergy with the back-up provider, thanks to our affiliation and strategic partnerships with three of the country’s other top service providers.
Integrated After-Sales:
We control a larger portion of the international circuit from the US to the Philippines than any international carrier, through our wholly-owned facilities as well as our integrated after-sales systems and processes between countries, enabling a more complete operational view of the circuit and faster response times.
